The boiler works, sheet metal works and galvanising plant, located in Mézières, would have been built in the late 19ᵉ or early 20ᵉ century. After the Second World War, it housed the Gaston Dham colour factory. Today, the site is divided between the Ponsart garage, on the Quai Roussel side, and the Espace Habitat technical premises, on the Rue d'Alsace and Boulevard Poirier sides. In 1943, the factory employed 48 people. The complex, bordered by three streets near the river Meuse, comprises several buildings: -On the Quai Roussel side, five limestone rubble buildings, with long-sloped or sheds roofs, and wooden frames covered with slate or sheet metal. -On the rue d'Alsace side, rubble stone buildings with metal sheds, extended by three brick workshops with metal frames, covered in sheet metal or asbestos cement. These buildings are flanked by offices and a caretaker's lodge forming a U-shape, built of limestone rubble with a square floor, near the main entrance.

A small factory set up by Roger Dehuz in 1919 to manufacture tools. Taken over in 1926 by Léon Dehuz and then by his widow in the 1940s, Etablissements Dehuz went on to specialise in the manufacture of tubular metal furniture. It is not known when the site closed. The buildings are currently occupied by a commercial company. The building must date from 1919, and the extension at the back was probably built after the Second World War. The factory is located on a narrow plot of land, with a building facing the street with brick panelled walls and a square storey. The workshops to the rear occupy two square storeys supported by a reinforced concrete structure and brick-filled walls. The whole building is covered by a long-sloped roof with an exposed metal frame covered in mechanical tiles.

This hydroelectric power station was built by Gustave Adolphe Clément to power his construction plant, La Macérienne, on the site of the old Mazarin mill in Mézières, at the foot of the ramparts. The work lasted from 1896 to 1898 and the power station was not commissioned until 1904. It was sold to a private company in 1984 when La Macérienne closed down. In 1904, three Teisset-Brault Chapron Francis-type turbines, each with 187 bhp, coupled to Westinghouse alternators and Ribourt speed regulators, produced 2200 volts. In 1924, these installations were replaced by the equipment still in use. A seven-tonne overhead travelling crane built by Gustin de Deville was used for maintenance operations. During its operation, the electrician and chief engineer lived in the three flats next to the power station. Four other employees were needed to ensure production. The power station has a basement level for maintenance work on the turbines. It is built entirely of limestone with a reinforced concrete roof terrace. The three dwellings (two one-storey square pavilions) frame the street façade.

Art Deco has left its mark on the urban landscape of Charleville-Mézières. This architectural style, characterised by geometric lines and stylised motifs, flourished in the 1920s and 1930s, particularly in the context of post-war reconstruction. This style is particularly evident in the Avenue d'Arches district of Mézières (Avenue d'Arches, Promenade de Dülmen, Quai Henri Roussel, Rue Colette), where buildings and houses are adorned with turrets and bell towers, beautiful bas-reliefs and elaborate ironwork balconies. Charleville also boasts a number of buildings that are typical of this style, such as the Petit Bois stadium (rue du Petit Bois) and the former bains-douches (rue Couvelet), as well as several fine houses around boulevard Gambetta and rue de Montjoly.

The square of the station offers 8600m² of natural areas dedicated to pedestrians. In 1858, the station of Charleville is inaugurated, first station of this line built at the request of the patrons of Ardenne industry. In 1866, the City felt the need to embellish the station square and she developed a square with some remarkable trees (Gingko biloba, Sequoia ...) and his famous bandstand, immortalized a few years later by the famous poem "To the music". The south portal is neo-gothic (restored in 2009) and the spire were added in the XIXth century. The inside of the building, sober and striped, was restored after the bombardments in 1944. The history : The Black Virgin in Mézières has been honored since the Xth century. The annual pilgrimage ended in 1962. The wooddes statue burnt to ashes in 1643 was replaced by the present stone one, in the XIXth century. 1521 : siege of Mézières by the army of Charles Quint, the Germanic Emperor 1570 : The King of France Charles IXth married Elizabeth of Austria in the church of Mézières. Wars of religion, the French revolution, wars in 1815, 1870, 1918, 1944 : the church was often taken as a target and devastated. In 1946, under the order of Pope Pie XIIth, it became a basilica. The windows : Made between 1955 and 1979, the basilica's windows are the work of René DÜRRBACH (1911- 1999). He was a painter, a sculptor, a collaborator and a close friend of Picasso. The windows were made by a master glassmaker André Seurre in Besançon ; they were installed by Jean Lanfranchi, a maker of glass in Mézières. More than 68 windows are as evidence gives to non figurative art, in the second half of the XXth century. The artist uses a cycle of symbolic colours, figures, universal signs (such as cross – heart – circle – square) in order to create a way of meditation to Mary, around the duality between "the Black Virgin" and "the Virgin of Hope" The organ : Built in 1997 by the Koenig factory of Sarre-Union, it's a mechanical organ with 40 stops. The main goal of this association is to make the Yves Koenig organ of the Notre-Dame d'Esperance Basilica of Charleville-Mézières known and appreciated by organizing numerous events and concerts throughout the year.

The Ardennes Sacred Art Treasure, inaugurated in July 2018, brings together around fifty masterpieces from churches in the department, sacred objects that have long been hidden from public view in sacristies or storerooms. The result of a long process of inventory and selection, the Treasure presents these ancient statues, precious reliquaries, gilded chalices, embroidered chasubles and paintings in a modern museographic space set up in the Basilica of Our Lady of Hope. These exceptional objects provide a panorama of religious art from the 13th to the 19th century in the Ardennes, testifying to the craftsmen's know-how and popular devotion.

This square bears the name of a former mayor of Mézières, named after its founder, mayor of Mézières (1878-1903). In 1892, facing the northern rampart of Mézières, this municipal square was built by the unemployed Mézières.July 30, 1893, the Minister of War, General Loizillon inaugurates the bronze statue of Chevalier Bayard, close to the Tower of the School. The statue is 2m 80 high and its pedestal 4m. The work of the sculptor Aristide Croisy (Fagnon, 1840 - Paris, 1899) was taken by the Germans in 1917, to be melted in cannons. Another work is worth a visit: a bas-relief entitled "The Pilgrim of Life".This square is totally invested every last weekend of August for the famous festival "Cabaret Vert", festival rock and territory, where the currency of exchange is the "bayard"!

She could go unnoticed, and yet… Our Lady possesses a real gem. After the two World Wars, the window was totally destroyed. The town called upon a number of art workshops. Against all odds, the proposal made to Picasso was positively received. The great artist himself took an interest and became fascinated by the project. However, there was a major concern: Picasso was not a believer! No matter: he entrusted this huge commission to his deeply pious pupil, René Dürrbach. He was to devote 25 years to the task, and together with glassmaker André Seurre he created a work covering 1000 m2, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The window is marked by the symbolism of the Picasso School. Completed in 1979, this intimist composition speaks to all and is open to every culture. The basilica welcomes visitors daily, thanks to volunteers who can offer you the keys needed to ‘read’ this complex work.
