Description

Art Deco has left its mark on the urban landscape of Charleville-Mézières. This architectural style, characterised by geometric lines and stylised motifs, flourished in the 1920s and 1930s, particularly in the context of post-war reconstruction.
This style is particularly evident in the Avenue d'Arches district of Mézières (Avenue d'Arches, Promenade de Dülmen, Quai Henri Roussel, Rue Colette), where buildings and houses are adorned with turrets and bell towers, beautiful bas-reliefs and elaborate ironwork balconies.
Charleville also boasts a number of buildings that are typical of this style, such as the Petit Bois stadium (rue du Petit Bois) and the former bains-douches (rue Couvelet), as well as several fine houses around boulevard Gambetta and rue de Montjoly.
