See the green Salat valley, via Salies-du-Salat A route designed specifically for cyclists. Part of the VELOSUD (V81), this level route takes you from Roquefort-sur-Garonne (link with the TransGarona - V83) to Castagnède, via the spa town of Salies-du-Salat and Mane on a former railway line, a stretch of 15 km. At Castagnède, you'll find a link with the Ariège greenway, which will take you to Foix (via Saint-Lizier and Saint-Girons in the Couserans).

Perched on the heights of Montsaunès, this trail combines spiritual heritage with panoramic views not to be missed. At the top of Mont de Poueigh stands the statue of the Virgin of Montsaunès, erected in 1938 in honour of Notre-Dame de la Paix. The site offers a remarkable panoramic view of the Garonne and Salat valleys and the Saint-Gaudens region, making it a must-see for hikers.

This stage offers an interesting mix of characterful villages, well-spaced out feed zones and beautiful rolling sections with views of the Pyrenees. The Garonne is the main theme, followed by a diversion through the Lèze valley before rejoining the Ariège valley. From Martres-Tolosane, a Mecca for ancient mosaics, the journey takes root in a town that still bears vivid traces of the Gallo-Roman era. The Martres archaeological museum, set against the remains of a Roman villa, houses some unique artefacts that serve as a reminder of the importance of this crossroads on the Aquitaine route. Strolling through the bastide and discovering the workshops of today's ceramists extends this link between tradition and modernity. Following the Garonne, the route winds its way through generous countryside, dotted with small rural churches, mills and bridges that bear witness to the peasant and merchant life of yesteryear. The river, a vital artery, fed the local economy, encouraging trade in timber, wine and cereals. As you head towards the Lèze valley, you pass through a mosaic of authentic villages whose history has been marked by the passage of pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Carbonne still has a central square lined with arcades, as well as traces of its rich trading past. As you approach Auterive, the valley widens, giving way to the Ariège, a tumultuous tributary of the Garonne. The town, whose name literally means "by the river", has had an eventful history. Fortified since the Middle Ages, it was a strategic post at the confluence of two valleys. You can still see its ramparts, medieval houses and Saint-Paul church, whose Romanesque foundations bear witness to the religious importance of the area. So, this stopover is not just an immersion in the nature of the valleys, but also a plunge into the history of Comminges and Volvestre, where each village tells in its own way the story of the evolution of civilisations, from Rome to the medieval bastides to the lively market towns of today. The route takes in roads open to traffic. You'll come across crossings and junctions, as well as stretches that are more or less busy. For everyone's safety, it's essential to obey the Highway Code and keep an eye out for other road users.

Go through the village and at the exit, cross the bridge to the left and turn left 70 m after the bridge. 13. At the end of the Chemin du Comte, turn right onto the D7 as far as the village of Couladère. 14. At the roundabout, take the second exit on the left and then, 200 m further on, turn left again onto the D49. 15. At the end of the road, turn right onto the D49D, then follow signs for Mauran by turning left onto the D62. 16. Turn slightly left towards the centre of the village of Mauran.

A gourmet hike is organized on the Trail at P'art on Thursday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hiking open to all. Jump in your walking shoes for a gourmet day in a picturesque village of the Astarac: Simorre! Accompanied by a Pass'enGers guide, you will start the day with a 4 km hike (80 m cumulative elevation gain) on the A p'Art trail. This course is punctuated by works of art in the heart of nature and offers a beautiful panorama of the Gers hills. At the end of the hike, you will discover the history of this picturesque village where wooden houses and brick architecture compete in elegance, as well as the architecture of the abbey-church redesigned by Viollet-Le-Duc. At lunchtime, a gourmet picnic awaits you, consisting only of local products: duck and black pork terrines, vegetarian tartines, melon, floc de Gascogne and craft beers, Côtes de Gascogne wine, apple juice, biscuits... A prehistoric shelter occupied during the Aurignacian period (35,000 years ago), this archaeological site is accessible all year round from the museum along a short 1.5km shaded path dotted with informative stops. Discovered by chance in 1852 in Aurignac's town, this cave was excavated in 1860 by the famous palaeontologist Edouard Lartet. Remains of animals, tools and hunting weapons from the begining of the upper Palaeolithic era were discevered on site. Since 1913, this place is the eponymous Aurignacien's place.

An earthenware orientation table, installed at the top of the keep, is a panoramic photograph of the landscape that can be admired all around Aurignac. It lists all the surrounding villages and allows you to put a name to all the peaks in the Pyrenees chain that stand out on the horizon (Anéto, Cagire, Burat, Crabioules...). The Aurignacians were the first anatomically modern humans who lived in Europe approximately 36,000 years ago. Archaeological traces of the lives of these ancient peoples are taken from the digs of the site of Aurignac and other emblematic prehistoric sites to provide the central theme of the museographic presentation. Films, illustrations, temporary exhibitions and activities for all ages offer a great number of approaches to understanding prehistory. Ideally accessible, designed to appeal to all ages and audiences, this museum is also a place where debates and discussions are held, probing into the great questions of Man’s origins and addressing the latest scientific discoveries. A former Cistercian abbey and granddaughter of Cîteaux, founded in 1136, the Bonnefont monastery was largely dismantled in the 19th century and its parts sold off. Open to the public from June to September: guided historical tours, medieval garden, exhibitions, concerts, lectures, workshops, etc. From its creation in 1136 until its dismantling in the 19th century, Bonnefont Abbey was one of the most important religious and economic players in southern Toulouse. In particular, it was responsible for the creation of numerous bastides (fortified towns) such as Boussens, Carbonne and Plaisance du Touch. Most of its buildings were sold after the Revolution, which explains why today the site consists solely of the Porterie, the Bâtiment des convers, the Lavabo and a few other pieces of architecture. The Syndicat Mixte de l'Abbaye de Bonnefont, made up of the Conseil Départemental de la Haute-Garonne and the Communauté de communes Cagire Garonne Salat, offers a rich programme of cultural events (concerts, workshops, lectures, etc.) throughout the summer. All year round, Montmaurin's archaeological sites and museum take you back in time to discover prehistoric man and the Gallo-Romans, with visits to the Gallo-Roman villas of Lassalles and la Hillère and the archaeological museum. The museum, located in the centre of the village, has 3 permanent exhibition rooms with a modern, educational museography. It displays objects unearthed from the Gallo-Roman villa at Lassalles and La Hillère, as well as those found in prehistoric caves and rock shelters in the surrounding area: the skeleton of a cave lion, carved stones, the mandible of early man and, of course, a facsimile of the famous Lespugue Venus. At the Lassalles site, visitors will discover living quarters, several courtyards, columns and veneers of Pyrenean marble, as well as sublime mosaics with complex geometric motifs dating from the 4th century AD. You can also visit the ancient site of La Hillère and the Notre-Dame chapel, which houses several mosaics. Permanent exhibition: vestiges excavated from the Gallo-Roman villa of Montmaurin. 1 pre-historic room. The musem part of the visit is temporarily closed due to the former presbytery renovation in a "Centre d'interprétation territorial" presenting the natural and the archaeological heritage (prehistoric times and gallo-roman) of Montmaurin. The opening of this centre is scheduled for June 2019. This investment is initiated by the National Museum Centre, managing a hundred monuments in France, 11 in Occitanie including Montmaurin.

In 1283, Abbot Taillefer, superior of the Cistercian abbey of Nizors, founded the bastide town of Boulogne. The church was started around this time but finalised later. It used to have a rectangular plan. Side chapels were added in the 15th century. The base of the square tower forms a vaulted porch, supported by large square pillars. The spire above the bell tower was destroyed by lightning in 1883 and rebuilt in 1890. The lower part is one of the rare testimonies of 14th century bastide architecture.
