The Fruit and Wine Route takes you from the lookout point of Lake Serre-Ponçon to Rousset, then along the Durance to the gateway to Provence. It is an original and gourmet invitation to discover fruit and wine production. The fruit and wine producers along this route will help you discover their land! Contemplate the hectares of orchards and vineyards, visit and taste products bursting with the flavours and aromas of the Buëch, Durance and Avance valleys. Get away from it all and discover even more? Heritage and outdoor activities will mark out your itinerary such as the cliff of Céüze, the castle of Tallard, the site of the capped Demoiselles of Théus, the leisure centre Les 3 Lacs de Rochebrune, or the lake of Serre-Ponçon, the highlight of this superb tourist route. History: Fruit production is very old since documents concerning fruit transactions have been found dating back to 1358. The real boom began in 1930 and developed strongly at the beginning of the 1960s with the setting up of new irrigation networks thanks in particular to the construction of the Serre-Ponçon dam. The lake thus formed, the first large artificial earthen reservoir in Europe, is a water reservoir allowing the irrigation of the Durance Valley. The south of the Hautes-Alpes benefits from an exceptional sunshine which is particularly suitable for the orchards and vineyards along this tourist route. Along the route you will discover local producers as well as restaurateurs, and many perched villages, the castle of Tallard, between the vineyards of the Théus plain and the orchards of the Durance Valley which produce famous fruits: the "Gap pear" known since François I, the Passe Crassane, the Golden Delicious. The National Botanical Conservatory of Gap Charance preserves very old varieties of apples and pears.

A very varied hike with many viewpoints! The panoramic Clape ridge offers views of the Pic de Bure and the Baronnies hills... Departure point: Maison forestière de Matacharre Distance: 12 km D+: 750 m Difficulty: Difficult

All along this short, hot and wild hike, the path overlooks the Durance valley and its orchards. During the ascent, the Mediterranean vegetation and the remarkable view offer a pleasant surrounding.The  Bec de Crigne is a Natura 2000 site for the particularly rich bird  species gathering at the cliffs (107 birds species). At the end of the small road (which quickly turns into a track) and just after the fruit farm, turn right at the crossroads where the Natura 2000 information panel is located. At the departure, the path runs along the orchards. The path then goes up through the undergrowth and crosses  the river sometimes. This old mule track, carved into the rock is climbing and winding along the face of spectacular cliffs. Several viewpoints of the Durance Valley punctuate the ascent. After a long series of bends, the track turns right under the cliff and pass a breach. Continue on the left in a pleasant undergrowth and arrive under the sheepfold of Basse Crigne (950 m). In the meadow under the sheepfold, the path is almost hidden and branches off to the left (it does not go up towards the sheepfold). Continue a few meters and reach a thalweg. The trail is very pleasant, fairly flat and on a balcony. Continue direction south, through old meadows that the forest is gradually recolonizing. When leaving the forest, reach a track, cross it and take the path almost immediately opposite. The path is wild and climbs parallel to the track (on its left) in the direction of Haute Crigne (please note  carefully the markings). Reach the Haute bergerie de Crigne (1130 m). Go back down by the same route.

Ce parcours en crête est particulièrement vertigineux. Après une montée courte mais intense à proximité de la cascade, le cheminement devient tranquillle et rafraîchissant le long du ruisseau de l’Échelle jusqu’au bas de la crête des Rouyères. De nouveau, le chemin se redresse et devient vertigineux par endroit (plusieurs mains courantes assurent la sécurité).Exigeante tant au point de vue la longueur que de l’engagement, cette randonnée reste tout au long de son parcourt ombragée. Le panorama depuis la table d’orientation de la tête de la Plane est époustouflant et vertigineux (en aller-retour) ! Depuis St-Barthélemy (940 m), suivre la piste goudronnée sur 200 m. S’engager à gauche dans le ravin de l’Échelle par un sentier qui grimpe en lacets pour surmonter la cascade du même nom. Continuer le haut ravin de l’Échelle en longeant son ruisseau. Prendre à gauche le sentier qui s’éloigne du ravin en montant pour atteindre le sentier supérieur. Partir à gauche pour rejoindre la crête. A la Crête des Rouyères (1 360 m), suivre le sentier en restant sur la crête (une piste VTT part à gauche). Ce sentier grimpe rapidement au sommet des Plauts. Il devient à partir de là très aérien pour la suite de l’itinéraire. Peu après le sommet, une trace arrive à droite (col des Rouyères). Plusieurs mains courantes équipées de câbles sécurisent le cheminement. Une fois à la Tête de la Plane (1 430 m), le sentier descend alors à gauche dans une très belle hêtraie après avoir rendu visite à la table d’orientation au sommet de la tête de la Plane. Un magnifique panorama s’ouvre depuis le Dévoluy jusqu’au Mercantour. Au carrefour de la Plane (1 410 m), laisser à droite le sentier descendant vers Gigors. Poursuivre à flanc en franchissant deux mains courantes pour rejoindre une piste. Continuer la piste sur 500 m. Laisser à droite le sentier plongeant sur la source du Jas afin de continuer par la piste jusqu’à une épingle à cheveux. Rejoindre à gauche la crête des Rouyères. De retour sur la Crête des Rouyères (1 360 m), suivre en sens inverse les points de 6 à 3 (Haut de la cascade). Au point 3, prendre alors à gauche la sente qui remonte pour rejoindre peu après une piste. Continuer par la piste descendante sur la droite Laisser la piste montante et prendre à droite vers le point de départ.

Découvrez le ravin secret de la Piche, logé derrière le village de Faucon-du-Caire. Un sentier ombragé vous mènera au chaos, puis à son Rocher-qui-Parle et une jolie cascade en contre-bas. Depuis la place de l’église, monter dans le haut du village, derrière la dernière maison. Au croisement (892 m), prendre le sentier qui part à droite et traverse immédiatement le ruisseau de la Piche. Par un cheminement ombragé, atteindre une ancienne piste. Suivre cette piste sur la gauche. Un gué suivi par une sente dans un éboulis vous mène à un épaulement sur l’arête.  A une intersection (1 187 m), amorcer la descente jusqu’à atteindre le bas du chaos. Un panneau vous guide sur la droite jusqu’au pupitre du Géoparc (5 mn) Continuer la descente dans le vallon en traversant plus bas le ruisseau de la Piche jusqu’au rocher qui parle surplombant le village (appuyer sur le bouton-poussoir du Rocher-qui-Parle pour déclencher l'écoute d'un conte). Un court sentier en lacets rejoint le départ de la randonnée.

Au départ de La Motte du Caire,  jolie boucle au coeur même des Hautes Terres de Provence. Découvrez ce pays caché à la frontière entre Baronnies et Ubaye.En se dirigeant vers Clamensane (7 km), pénétrer dans la vallée du Sasse et remonter jusqu’à Bayons, après avoir franchi sa clue. De là, la route grimpe par les «Tourniquets» pour atteindre le col des Sagnes (1182 m). Redescente face aux Ecrins par Turriers et rejoindre la Motte-du-Caire via le col du Sarraut (980 m). Depuis La-Motte-du-Caire (690 m), prendre au sud la D 951. Après 3.8 km, tourner à gauche par la D 1 et suivre la vallée du Sasse en rive droite. Traverserer le village de Clamensane (692 m), puis la clue de Bayons, le hameau du Forest-Lacour (817 m) et le village de Bayons (875 m) donnant accès aux fameux «Tourniquets» et le col des Sagnes (1182 m). De là, prendre la petite descente jusqu’à Turriers.Dans le village (999 m), prendre à gauche par la D 951A sur 4.2 km.Continuer à gauche par la D 951 et passer le col du Sarraut (980 m). Descendre alors par les villages de Faucon-du-Caire et du Caire. Au passage, un petit coup d’œil sur la fameuse via ferrata du village s'impose. Boucler le circuit, parmi les vergers de pommiers.

Le tour de la montagne d'Aujour, tracé sur deux territoires entre Durance et Buëch, permet d'effectuer en 57 km une boucle avec un relief accidenté dans un cadre encore sauvage de ravines de marne noire et de franchir le col d'Espréaux par son versant Nord. Au départ de Monêtier-Allemont, traverser le canal EDF et prendre la D 942 jusqu'à Ventavon. Au croisement de la D 942 / D 21, prendre la D 21 et entamer l'ascension du col de Faye (934 m d'altitude). Au croisement de la D 21 / D 48 à Savournon, emprunter la D 48 jusqu'à Chabestan. Au carrefour de D 48 /D 49, suivre la D 49 puis la D 149 pour rejoindre le village de Saint-Auban d'Oze. A Saint-Auban d'Oze, continuer sur la D 149 et entreprendre l'ascension du col des Verniers (1 035 m). Rejoindre Châteauneuf-d'Oze. Rejoindre par la D 20 le col d'Espréaux. Suivre cette route jusqu'à la route du canal. Longer le canal EDF de Sisteron pour revenir jusqu'au point de départ (Monêtier-Allemont).

Le point culminant de cette randonnée est la récompense d'une montée agréable mais raide. Le panorama est époustouflant et vertigineux! La balade se fait en partie sous une forêt de hêtres. Pendant la saison chaude, le randonneur appréciera la majesté des bois tapissés de feuilles et d'herbes ou la limpidité de la fontaine d'eau glacée qui coule près du refuge du Jas. Depuis l'église de Gigors (870 m), suivre à droite la D951 sur 700m jusqu'à un départ de piste à gauche. A la bifurcation Les Aires (905 m), suivre la piste jusqu'au premier lacet. Quelques mètres après la barrière, bifurquez à droite pour commencer la montée à travers bois jusqu'à retrouver la piste. A Gaudissart (1 120 m), prendre à la sortie de l’épingle le sentier à droite qui poursuit son ascension en sous-bois. Arrivé à la Source du Jas (1 301 m), dépasser le refuge et s'engager à droite sur le petit sentier forestier. Monter pour atteindre le bout piste qui se transforme 300 m plus loin en sentier et s'élève jusqu'au point culminant de la randonnée. Au carrefour de la Plane (1 410 m), se diriger vers le sommet pour aller voir la table d'orientation. Revenir au carrefour et suivre le chemin de droite jusqu'à "La Dent de Gigors". Arrivé à celle-ci bifurquer à droite et continuer sur environ 200 m. A l'Ubac de Gigors (1 270 m), deux possibilités, soit continuer par Le Bosquet pour regagner Gigors par un joli sentier en sous-bois, soit bifurquer à gauche et prendre la piste forestière de l'Ubac pour revenir au point 2 et rentrer par l'itinéraire emprunté à l'aller.

Built at the sources of the White Drac, near the disused Champoléon cabin, this refuge with its stone roof offers tasty regional food at lunchtime and copious Alpine meals in the evening. The refuge is easy to access for families: 1 hr 30 mins from the Auberts car park (elevation: 350 m). Large number of hiking trails leaving from the refuge.

The ascent to the refuge from Villard Loubière has become a great hiking classic. Small dormitories with duvets, convivial dining room, hot showers and large equipped terraces. A stop on the GR54 footpath that should not be missed. Ideal starting point for the Pic de Turbat, with 3000m of easy access. A stop on the Tour de l'Oisans (GR54 footpath) that should not be missed. Snacks and refreshments possible. Access in 3 hours; elevation: 900 metres.

Nestled at the foot of the west face of the Sirac, this refuge was built in 2001 from wood and stone. Bright, spacious dormitories with duvets. Hot water showers and indoor toilets. From the refuge, there is a wide range of climbs and hikes: Sirac, Col and Pic de Vallonpierre, Col des Chevrettes, GR 54 footpath, Chabournéou refuge, Tour du Vieux Chaillol. Accessible in 2 hrs 30 mins from Gioberney car park, elevation 700 metres.

Work began on the canal in 1864 and was completed in 1880. The canal is 28 km long, and takes its water from the River Drac, upstream of Pont du Fossé, before channelling it into the Gap basin. In today's money, it cost some 2 billion euros to build! The man in charge of the project, Maurice Garnier, a local member of parliament and contractor, went bankrupt and died in poverty, but managed to improve the life of local farmers.

If you make a detour to the Col de Gleize, you may well see some mouflons. An ancestor of the sheep with ammonite horns, it was introduced from 1949 into the Alps from herds in Corsica and central Europe, and seems well settled in the Chaudun area. Even though the European Union recommends strict protection of the mouflon, it is still hunted during the hunting season. Its populations are ill-adapted to extreme Alpine conditions and can fluctuate according to the winter weather.

The Gap-Bayar golf course is located at an altitude of 1,250m. In the view of specialists, it is one of the finest golf courses in the south of France. The 18-hole course is surrounded with forests filled with wild fruit, mushrooms and wild animals. Near the pastures, where the cows graze, there is a clear view over the Champsaur, the Ecrins and the town of Gap.

1912 saw the start of the Champsaur rail works, an old project for a line between Grenoble and Gap which was intended to pass through Champsaur. In service from 1932 onwards, the Mure to Corps section was an undoubted success. From Corps to Gap, the earthworks and engineering works were almost totally complete. However, the onset of the War, a lack of resources and the development of cars all brought the project to an end in 1941. Today, numerous structures along the route bear witness to this past endeavour.

Fours (kilns) refer to holes in which gypsum was cooked to make plaster..At the end of a path of the cross, the chapel was built on the site of the appearance of the Virgin Mary to the shepherdess Benoîte Rencurel in 1664.

The work of the Office National des Forêts (National Forestry Office) is not limited to the forests. After buying a large amount of land following the rural exodus (public land), the state delegated to the Water and Forestry agency the difficult task of preserving the natural heritage of a large number of areas (restoration of land and building, maintenance of paths, etc.)

Natural phenomena sometimes leave us with lovely surprises! In Remollon, you can admire two astonishing petrifying waterfalls from their observation deck. A refreshing walk. Parking at the start. These spectacular formations are formed by limestone deposits traversed by underground watercourses. In the past, the original spring located in a deep cave to the west of the village fed a grain mill below, and it was its discharge into the Durance that formed the petrifying waterfall over time. You can observe the first waterfall thanks to an access platform. - To observe the 1st waterfall: park at the access car park along the RD900 then walk there in 2 min, take the marked path on the right "La Cascade" to the wooden observation footbridge. - To observe the 2nd waterfall: 10 min walk along the chemin de l'Hermitane towards the Plaine and its orchards, then right along the chemin de la Plaine. Locate the mill on the edge of the cliff; the waterfall is below the building.

Between the Durance, Avance and Luye rivers and the Lac de Serre-Ponçon, this forest encompasses hills and demoiselles coiffées. The site is home to a host of different plant species, birds and butterflies.

The site of the Three Lakes (which actually includes 4 lakes), is spread over two communes: Rochebrune and Piégut. It is a succession of different lakes in the heart of the Durance Valley, covered with vineyards and orchards. The 3 Lakes site is a fragile natural area classified as Natura 2000 by the European Union. It is home to numerous plants such as the reed "La Petite Massette", fish, amphibians, invertebrates, birds and more discreet mammals such as the beaver. For pleasure and calm, the site is a restful setting, ideal for refreshing yourself, taking a stroll and rejuvenating. You are bound to find something to suit you on one of the beaches. In fine weather, enjoy the supervised swimming and shaded picnic areas. For fishing enthusiasts, the site will make you happy! Fishing is regulated on the 3 lakes site. Fish are released regularly. Respect biodiversity: - do not enter the reed beds, - do not fish for frogs, - do not pick plants, - keep your rubbish with you, - keep your pet on a lead...

A large number of hikes leave from the refuge: Cascade de la Pisse (20 mins), Col de la Vénasque (3h), Col de Côte Longue (4h), the summit of Le Vieux Chaillol (3163 m), but also the unspoilt valleys of the Muande and Mal Cros! Le Moulin Campsite welcomes you at the heart of nature, close to the source of the river Drôme. Situated at the foot of the village built on a rocky outcrop, Camping du Moulin is close to all village activities: hiking, themed hikes, mountain bike trails, archery, tennis, climbing, children's games. It is a charming hilltop village at 800 m of altitude on a rocky outcrop offering one of the clearest starry sky in France. Hikers, families, groups of friends, sports clubs…everyone is welcome for a night or a longer stay at Auberge de Valdrôme.
