Description

The Fruit and Wine Route takes you from the lookout point of Lake Serre-Ponçon to Rousset, then along the Durance to the gateway to Provence. It is an original and gourmet invitation to discover fruit and wine production.

The fruit and wine producers along this route will help you discover their land! Contemplate the hectares of orchards and vineyards, visit and taste products bursting with the flavours and aromas of the Buëch, Durance and Avance valleys.
Get away from it all and discover even more? Heritage and outdoor activities will mark out your itinerary such as the cliff of Céüze, the castle of Tallard, the site of the capped Demoiselles of Théus, the leisure centre Les 3 Lacs de Rochebrune, or the lake of Serre-Ponçon, the highlight of this superb tourist route.

History:
Fruit production is very old since documents concerning fruit transactions have been found dating back to 1358. The real boom began in 1930 and developed strongly at the beginning of the 1960s with the setting up of new irrigation networks thanks in particular to the construction of the Serre-Ponçon dam. The lake thus formed, the first large artificial earthen reservoir in Europe, is a water reservoir allowing the irrigation of the Durance Valley.
The south of the Hautes-Alpes benefits from an exceptional sunshine which is particularly suitable for the orchards and vineyards along this tourist route. Along the route you will discover local producers as well as restaurateurs, and many perched villages, the castle of Tallard, between the vineyards of the Théus plain and the orchards of the Durance Valley which produce famous fruits: the "Gap pear" known since François I, the Passe Crassane, the Golden Delicious. The National Botanical Conservatory of Gap Charance preserves very old varieties of apples and pears.

Les Demoiselles Coiffées de Théus

The Durance Valley hides natural phenomena that are unusual to say the least: the "Demoiselles Coiffées" or "Fairy Chimneys". Take the height from our observation points and enjoy exceptional panoramas! These spectacular geological formations are the result of rain and torrential erosion, and can be recognised by their tall columns topped by a rocky cap. There are two villages in the Durance Valley where you can get close to them by car or on foot. - AT THÉUS: the 65-hectare site has been listed since 1939. The Vallauria torrent basin contains a whole series of capped columns and is a real geomorphological curiosity. There are so many formations here that they are referred to as the "Salle de Bal" (ballroom) Get a bird's eye view of them from our two lookout points! The "Ballroom Terrace", inaugurated in 2018, offers a view of these natural gems accompanied by a picture-postcard backdrop overlooking the Durance Valley. Thanks to its deckchairs, tables, benches and information panels, you'll be able to recharge your batteries in peace and quiet. STARTS FROM THÉUS: a choice of a blue route and a longer red route that takes in the lookouts on the terrace, before descending to the car park. Start: Théus before the village of Théus, in the last bend on the D53A: start sign at the car park, take the forest track that crosses the torrent. 4 km 1h30 +320 m, longer option. - ACCESS BY CAR: > BELVEDÈRES DE THÉUS: after passing through the village of Théus and its winding road (RD53), turn right at the hamlet of Le Poët (D53A) to the first belvedere and its car park. If you continue a little further you can enjoy an exceptional 360° view, at Mont Colombis culminating at 1734 m (accessible by car).

German Domain

Domaine Allemand is a pioneer in the preservation of a rare indigenous grape variety: Mollard. Nestled on sunny hillsides along the banks of the Durance, this high-altitude estate regularly wins awards. Silver medal 2020 "le Théusien blanc".VISIT : - Free tastings and discoveries of the range without appointment, during opening hours. - Visits to the vineyards and commented tastings with the Domaine's winemaker by appointment (call us on 04 92 54 40 20). The Domaine Allemand is the oldest of the Haut-Alpes domains. It was founded in 1954 by Louis Allemand after he did his military service in Champagne and thus discovered his vocation. From the start, the estate has focused on the quality of its production (small volumes, manual harvesting, plot selection, etc.). In the 90's, Marc Allemand started to safeguard the mollard grape variety, a local variety which was disappearing at that time. Today, the 11 hectares cultivated by the estate are mainly located below the small village of Théüs, a historical terroir of the department, particularly favourable to the cultivation of the vine. Reds, rosés, whites, but also traditional methods, wine confit or liqueurs will offer you a wide range of gourmet combinations. Its name may seem strange to you, but in our region "mollard" means "little mountain" or "small mountain"! This red grape variety with spicy notes is emblematic of the Hautes-Alpes. We produce it in different vintages. Generally speaking, we hardly treat our vines and few of the phytosanitary products we use are essentially labelled organic. The estate's wines regularly win awards at competitions such as the Concours Général Agricole de Paris or the Concours National des Vinalies, and are selected each year by the Guide Hachette.

Whether it is pears or apples, the quality of the fruits of the Alps is known and recognised. A Protected Geographical Identification (PGI) was validated in 2010. Our vegetables and fruit are hand-picked and brought to maturity. We offer you always fresh products at a fair price! In our shop, everyone discovers what nature and the seasons offer us. - Authenticity and quality Buying the products of each season means consuming authentic products that have optimal nutritional qualities.
