Hiking and mountain biking circuit located in the spectacular natural setting of the Vienne gorges. Beautiful panoramas on the Vienne and views of the surrounding countryside. The gradient of this walk is classified as difficult. Prepare well for your outing. An additional 7.8 km variant has some narrow and steep sections.

During this hike, explore the communal laundry in Saint-Amand-le-Petit, the restored church, the old tram station and the weighbridge.Hiking from the town hall, take the road towards the D940-Lessilade. At the crossroads, take the road on the left for 50 metres, pausing to admire the weighbridge and the old tram station. Then turn around and follow the road to Eymoutiers for 150 m.Take the path on the left and go up to the clearing.At the clearing, go straight down to the road to Eymoutiers. Follow this road to the left and continue for 400 m.Take the small road on the right towards La Faye and continue until you reach the village. Go through the village of La Faye.Take a small path on the right which passes through woods for 20 m.At the end of the road, continue on the road to the right, going up towards the village of Saint-Amand-le-Petit.Walk past the Church of Saint-Amand and admire the granite cross. It is possible to enter the church through the wooden door below the gate. Push the door hard. The church is open all year round.

The collegiate church of Saint Etienne is the result of numerous restoration campaigns. From the outset, visitors will be seduced by the complementarity between the architectural austerity and the refinement of the sculpted parts, enriched by the remarkable set of stained glass windows and painted decorations. From the Romanesque period, the church's nave and west porch belfry are characteristic of Limousin Romanesque architecture. The first Gothic embellishments were made to the south facade in the 13th century. A Limousin Gothic portal with frieze of capitals spans its entire width. More exceptional, the rose is undoubtedly the first in the Limousin region to be built to a strict radiating definition.

Eymoutiers, Gateway Town of the PNR de Millevaches, joined the Petites Cités de Caractère network in December 2018. The concept was born in the mid-1970s to promote atypical towns, both rural in location and population, and urban in history and heritage. These towns, with their rich heritage and once administrative, political, religious, commercial and military centers, often saw their urban functions reduced after France?s administrative and industrial revolutions. The town?s mountain atmosphere and size might lead visitors in a hurry to believe that they are in a large market town. Yet the town?s architecture, with its multiple urban functions, tells a story that is far from ordinary.

The building is close to the Collegiate Church, and can be recognized from the Pré Lanaud park thanks to its L-shaped floor plan. It was occupied by the Ursulines (nuns) from 1629. They were responsible for educating young girls until 1790, when they left for Limoges. The convent was then sold as national property, and the municipality became the owner of the right wing. In 1833, a boys' secondary school was set up, and remained there until 1959. After a fire in 1994, the municipality refurbished the building, which now houses administrative services including the Town Hall.

Our intervention on this site, on the southern edge of the plot, takes the form of a balcony overlooking the city.

L'infini suspendu is a work imagined and created by the artist Christian Lapie for Eymoutiers (2013). The work is composed of two groups of carved figures in blackened hundred-year-old oak facing each other, 3 in the vicinity of the old convent, 12 in the park of Pré Lanaud, seeming to dialogue. These standing sentinels echo the collective memory of the Resistance, very strong in the area. The artist writes: "In this environment the spirit of resistance, permanence, robustness, simplicity, dialogue, uprightness, commitment, resilience are palpable. The human is here a solid and standing group".

"Ayen" comes from an ancient word meaning "height, hill". In fact, the house known as the Tower of Ayen, is a notable dwelling typical of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries located on the highest point of the ancient city. The stair tower has been registered in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 1929. It has Renaissance windows and a door decorated with a hammered coat of arms. Like the roof of the bell tower of the collegiate church, the roof of the tower is covered with chestnut shingles.

Eymoutiers prospered from tanning, particularly in the 17th century. The name of the town?s inhabitants refers to this flourishing activity: the Pelauds are those who work with skins (pellis in Latin). Today, the open-plan attics where the skins were dried once tanned still bear witness to this ancient activity throughout the town. The finest example is the Maison du Maître Tanneur on rue Farge, an imposing early 17th-century house on the banks of the Vienne. Please note: this is a private building that cannot be visited; it can only be seen from the street.

The Fressengeas pond, created in 1974, is classified by prefectoral decree as a tourist fishing enclosure. Since 1992, fish farming has been managed by the Fressengeas fishing association. The lake's fauna consists mainly of carp (some weighing up to 15 kg), tench, roach, gudgeon, fario and rainbow trout and trophy trout (1 to 2 kg). To fish here, all you need is a card from the Fressengeas fishing association, available from the Tourist Office in Eymoutiers: yearly card - weekly card - daily card - youth card (10 to 16 years) - youth card (under 10 years). Fishing is permitted with 2 lines, which must be close to the angler. Fishing with maggots or artificial lures is authorized. Baiting with maggots is strictly forbidden.
