This sporty route winds its way along a magnificent balcony path at the bottom of the wild Boscodon valley, under the eye of Pouzenc from its eyrie of 2898m.Due to major forestry work in the Grande Cabane area, this route will be inaccessible from 25 July 2023. From the bridge at the grande cabane, head uphill through the barrier where you will immediately encounter a crossroads. Turn right to pass under the grande cabane. Stay on the slope uphill. Veer right as you climb the path. After a steep climb under the larch trees, turn left at the crossroads onto the balcony path. Some passages are vertiginous and require extra care. When you reach a shepherd’s hut (La Pérouyère hut), pass it and continue along the balcony path. At the junction, continue on the path for several kilometres until you return to a track. Continue to the right as far as Clos Besson. Before the barrier take a left fork on a path towards the forest. Cross a footbridge and then 2 streams. When you reach a clearing, take a right fork downhill as you come to a track. Continue left, past the chapel and then Lauzerot Lake. On the track, turn right until you reach the starting point.

The descent into the "terres noires" certainly has the "wow" factor; the view from the Fonteniers ridge is exceptional.** Due to a technical problem, the actual altitude difference on this stage is around 800m, and not 3000m as stated in the route description. 1) At the rafting centre, take the path on the right. Turn left uphill at the D900 road. (/! straight on for 4.5 km on this busy road) 2) At the start of a straight stretch, turn right downhill towards Villaret. At the hamlet, continue along the track. (/! presence of rocks on the descent). At the "Femme Morte" pass, turn left onto the path towards Bologne. Once you reach te first houses, leave the path and take the road opposite. At the junction with Chemin de la Tire, head down the road. Then head towards Le Lautaret.3) At Le Lautaret, cross the D900 B /! . Cross the hamlet on the main road. Turn left onto rue Yves Rechner. At Route des Garreaux, go straight on and ascend towards the "chemin de la diligence". At the road, continue straight ahead on the Chemin de la Diligence. /! stones. At the chapel on the D900, continue straight on.4) At Monclar, turn left onto the D207 towards the resort of Saint-Jean. At the bottling plant, turn right towards La Miande Les Vials Serre Nauzet. Turn right at Domaine de l'Adoux. At Serre Nauzet, go straight on, then at the fountain, take the track on the left towards Château de Montclar. 5) At the clearing, /! take the side track down to the right. At the D900, continue straight ahead towards "sous la Roche" and cross the hamlet. At Sainte-Anne, go straight ahead and descend onto the road and then the track. Above the hangar, turn left and continue straight ahead on the track. Stay on the main path ! At Villaudemar, turn left down the road.6) On the D900c, turn right towards the Gorges de la Blanche. 350m further on (before a bend at the FJ body shop), turn left down the "Chemin du gué du moulin" track towards "Plan des Sagnières". At "Plan des Sagnières", take the road on the right, then continue on the right towards "Thuriers". At route D1, turn left towards Saint-Martin lès Seyne. At Rougon, leave the Ladre road and turn right onto the Col de Saint-Martin road.7) Above the Col Saint-Martin, continue straight ahead on the track towards Chabanon crête des mélèzes then after 150m turn right. (/! The path then descends relatively steeply, with ruts). 8) At route D1, go left then right into the marl. At the junction, continue along the main road opposite. At the bend continue right on the grassy side track (/! path hard to see). At the D210 turn right. Go through Chaumenc. 9) After the bridge, take the small road on the right towards Champ d'Arène. After the post box, turn left onto chemin du Touron. Turn left at the E6 DFCI track, In Bréziers, turn right onto Rue du Clos de Barou. Continue straight ahead (D310), then turn right at the hairpin to join the D951. Turn right down to the Durance river.10) Before the canal bridge, take the road on the right towards Gréoliers. In Greoliers, go straight on at the fountain. Turn left at the D900c /! Cross the Durance and join the rond-point du barrage,

The Sources de Jérusalem reward a gradual ascent with a magnificent waterfall. An accessible hike despite its relative length. Start from the Pra Paisset car park. Follow the forest track at the end of the car park. Continue straight ahead past the Gautier sheepfold, then cross the stream. Go straight on at the via ferrata sign after 1.8km. Take the path at the end on the right level with the flat ground of Pré Lapierre. Here the slope starts to steepen. Turn left at the Cime de Lapierre sign after 2.6 km. Continue straight ahead at the Rocher Long sign, staying on a wide, fairly steep path shaded by larch trees. Turn right 150m after the sign fr Jerusalem. The springs are 200m further on. 1.8km. After reaching the springs, take a path down to the right. Cross the stream at the foot of the waterfall. A second ford is required shortly afterwards, before the path stretches along the mountainside. A series of flower-filled meadows, undergrowth and river crossings punctuate the route. Continue straight ahead on the small path through a cut littered with stumps. You should see the resort opposite and then to the right. Take another track after a short descent, then turn left. Descend the track to the valley hut. Then take a grassy path to the right. The trail markings are now accompanied by yellow PR markings. You will need to take a short passage through scree a few hundred metres further on. After a long descent along this path, return to a wider track where you will have to turn right. A heavily wooded section leads to the bridge over the Eyssalette stream. Cross the bridge and follow the path. Follow this wide, well-maintained path to a new stream, which you will need cross to reach the first home. Take a right here to join a road. Turn right and follow the road for around 200m to take a steep track on your right. Pass a new home and join the main road. Then climb back up to the Pra Paisset car park, following the road for the last few kilometres.

Well off the beaten track, come and discover a wild valley where wildlife is everywhere. Start from Pra Paisset car park. Follow the forest track at the end of the car park. Continue straight ahead past the Gautier sheepfold, then cross the stream. Go straight on at the via ferrata sign after 1.8km. Take the path at the end of the right level with the flat ground of Pré Lapierre. Here the slope starts to steepen. Turn left at the Cime de Lapierre sign after 2.6 km. Continue straight ahead at the Rocher Long sign, staying on a wide, fairly steep path shaded by larch trees. Go left 150m after the Jerusalem sign to follow a narrower, sloping path. (You can make a diversion via the Jerusalem springs by turning right). Follow a narrow path that winds through the forest. The slope becomes gentler once you reach the valley. Then follow the track at the bottom of the valley through various scree slopes. Make a U-turn under the Col du Pouzenc when the slope steepens considerably. Finally, return by the same route.

Admire the many icefalls nestled in the heart of the Eyssalette valley, At the hairpin bend leave the road to continue straight ahead on the track, passing the barrier. Stay on the track until you reach an old sheepfold. From there, the return journey takes the same route.

Lake Sainte-Marguerite is well worth the effort, offering a peaceful setting ideal for a picnic or a refreshing break. It ‘s a pleasant destination to head for with children. Follow the forest track that starts at the end of the Pra Paisset car park at the bend. After a few hundred meters, continue straight past the Gautier sheepfold. Keep going straight at the intersection with the Via Ferrata sign, 1.8 km from the starting point. Then turn left at Pré Lapierre on wide, flat terrain. The path then rises on a steep slope. Veer right 250m higher. Continue straight on a wide path through the larches at the next intersection. Turn left at the Rocher Long sign, then follow a rocky steep path. It disappears when entering an alpine meadow after an ascent of a few hundred meters. It is extended by a small path that crosses the high-altitude meadows near the lake cabins. Then cross the stream and continue on a small path in the pastures. Keep climbing, then turn right at the intersection. Continue as far as the lake. Once you reach the lake, you can walk around it. Then retrace your steps to the previous intersection, take the wooden bridge over the river, continue through the pastures, cross a stream, and follow the path that ascends slightly (the stream is likely to disappear in summer). The route becomes more wooded between clearings and undergrowth, then enters a larch forest. Keep straight when crossing the ruins of old cabins. Turn right and follow the sign indicating the return to the resort at the next intersection. At the next intersection in a clearing, follow the direction “Station par le chalet des Fontaines “ "resort via the Fontaines chalet." Continue straight at the next intersection after a descent. Once you reach the skiing area, take the wide path that passes under the chairlift. Then follow a small path that goes behind the brasserie restaurant and in front of the Pousterle chairlift, then join the gravel access road and follow it to Les Orres 1800. Then take a right towards Champ Lacas and reach the centre of the resort. Pass under the tunnel towards the shops and join the parking lot on the other side. Take the Bois Méans road at the bend at the exit to the car park. Descend to the hairpin bend below and take a path to the left 20m further on, crossing the balustrade. The path drops down to the Pra Paisset car park.

A trail suitable for all, in the shadow of the larches as far as the Lac du Lauzerot. From the stopping area, take the track which rises to the left before the spring «Combal de Valette». After passing the cabin, head along the right-hand track. Go through the mesh fencing, via the opening provided. From here, immediately join the path leading downhill to the right. Go through the fencing again to the right of the chapel of Le Lauzerot, and then follow the path on the left. Skirt around the lake and then take the path on the left. On the forest track, turn right. This brings you back to the parking area.

This long and highly technical route, for experienced trail runners only, takes in mountain pastures and ridges. From the Les Orres 1650 snow line, ascend and follow the track that veers to the left shortly after pylon no. 2 of the Prélongis chairlift. Follow it as far as Les Orres 1800 and take a shady single track that will take you to the Lac de Sainte-Marguerite path, passing the ruins of the Eyssalette hut. You will gradually emerge into the mountain pastures crossed by streams to reach Sainte-Marguerite Lake. Now things start to get serious! Turn left onto a rocky path that twists and turns for almost 2 kilometres and leads to the Col de l'Aupillon. Climb right to the Pic de l'Aupillon at 2916m and admire the view of the Alpes de Haute-Provence. Return to the path and take a single track along the ridge to reach the top of the Vallon de Rémolon. Reach the top of the Pousterle chairlift via the hiking trails (11). The descent is by chairlift or on foot (several possible routes: consult the map at the top of the chairlift).

This small, undulating loop through a larch grove follows the old paths used to ascend to the mountain pastures in summer. From the Les Orres 1650 tourist office, go to the Pitchounets children's club, then follow the road uphill to a small car park. The start can be found at the bottom of the hill. After a short passage through undergrowth, head up the 4x4 track for a few metres until you turn left onto an old flat channel. At the end of this channel, begin the climb and pass in front of the Cabane du nain rouge. Keep ascending into the woods. Here you can enjoy a beautiful unobstructed view of the village. Beware; this is quite a vertiginous route: a handrail accompanies you up the few steps you have to climb. A bit further on, take several switchbacks as you descend into the forest. A final ascent takes you to a flat single track that leads back to the start of the route. From this point, the return journey takes the same route as the outward journey.

A long and beautiful descent, physically demanding but almost always under the cover of trees. Descend the departmental road then turn left at a place called Pralalègre towards the ranch. Descend the tight hairpin road, then take the path leading to the equestrian centre. Cross the stream and follow a wide path. Cross the bridge over the Eysalettes and continue along the same path. After a few hundred metres, turn left onto the track. Continue straight on to the next intersection. Finally turn right at the next intersection, around a bend, and take a wide path that descends again. Cross a stream. Turn left down a stony slope into the heart of the woods After this stony descent, turn right at a beehive into more open countryside then left on a hairpin 200m below. Join a small hamlet and go 50m down the road. Turn left onto a small road. After about 200m, take a track on the right. The path soon narrows and winds through the woods. Turn left at La Serbie and follow the road down to a hairpin bend, where you turn left under the pines along a winding path. At the end of this path, turn left onto the road and then left again towards the estate of Val Ubaye. At the sign for Vurbaye, take a small path to the right. At the end of the path, take a small road to the right, which is almost immediately followed by a footpath, then join a road and head downhill towards Baratier. Once you reach the village square, go past the town hall then turn right at the exit for the small square and right again onto the road. Then take a path on the left and turn right at the road. At the roundabout, go straight ahead towards Petit Liou. Go down the street then pass under the RN94. Go past the Super U then straight ahead at the roundabout to take the footbridge over the Durance. Then turn left and follow the Durance to the car park

Built at the sources of the White Drac, near the disused Champoléon cabin, this refuge with its stone roof offers tasty regional food at lunchtime and copious Alpine meals in the evening. Lake Sainte Marguerite lake lies in the high Eysalette valley, surrounded by peaks that almost form an amphitheatre, with the Pic Silhourais and the Alpe de Verdun mountain rising above them. This exceptional setting is complemented by the rich fauna of the lake, which promises a great catch for anglers, particularly the Brown trout, which can also be found in the Eysalettes torrent, which rises in the lake.

Around the refuge of Les Bans, the marmot observes visitors as much as they observe it! Its main strategy in the face of predators (golden eagle, fox, etc.) is to seek refuge in its burrow. It is a dry fruit that is not intended to be eaten by animals. This means they colonise environments on the wind, which carries them from one place to another.

The undisputed king of the sky, it flies close to sunny slopes to gain altitude in search of prey. The Fournel valley is home to a pair of golden eagles, which can often be spotted in the warmer hours of the day. Some years, the pair does not bother to build a nest and lay an egg, preferring to fly freely. And then one day, the female will lay two eggs, making up for their failure to comply with the law of survival of the species. And here are two young eagles taking flight at the end of the summer, sporting a burst of white at the base of their tails and on the 'cockades' of their wings.

This centuries-old sheepfold was first restored in 1755 during Jean Francois Gautier's term as mayor of Les Orres, after whom it was named, and once again in 2009 after withstanding more than two centuries of weathering. The floor of the sheepfold was laid using the traditional "standing timber" technique. Small, debarked trunks 12 cm high are held vertically by crushed gravel between the trunks.

The larch, which can be seen throughout the walk, is a very special tree. Although a member of the Pinaceae family, like Cedar, Fir, Pine and Spruce, it is the only conifer whose needles change colour and fall off in autumn. A mountain tree par excellence, it grows at altitudes of between 1200 and 2400m, where it is generally accompanied only by the Swiss Pine. Its light green, airy foliage lets the sun's rays through and its undergrowth is often rich in geraniums or orchids. It has a straight, smooth trunk that splits into plates as it gets higher. Its bark tends towards grey and reddish brown and its branches lean downwards like those of the Epicea. Its needles are grouped in clusters of 20 or 40 on short branches and measure about 3cm.

The red squirrel or Eurasian squirrel is an arboreal, diurnal rodent. As its name suggests, it can be found over much of the Eurasian continent, but is nonetheless one of the key species in French coniferous and mixed forests. It weighs an average of 600 grams and measures 18 to 20 cm plus a tail of 16 to 20 cm. Its colour varies from reddish to brownish-black, but its belly is always white. It spends much of its life stocking up on food, seeds or acorns, in preparation for winter. In fact, it does not hibernate and only slows down during this period. Squirrels lead solitary lives and only meet other squirrels when they are breeding. The threat of the grey squirrel, which was imported from North America, is better adapted to deciduous forests and carries a deadly virus for its cousin, is worsening in Europe and could soon spread to the Alps.
