Situated between Pau and Tarbes, this immense water reserve extends over four communes on the borders of the Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques departments, in a very gently undulating countryside environment. Completed in 2007, Lac du Gabas already offers innovative facilities that make it a place to visit, stroll around and find out more, designed and developed for all publics. From open areas to undergrowth, this very pleasant and easy route is suitable for everyone. There are some very pleasant spots along the way, such as the descent into the valley carved out by the Grand Lées.

An excellent downhill route through the Morlaàs region. The route takes in valleys, plains and undergrowth, with the Pyrenees as a backdrop. Linking these two superb lakes by mountain bike is an experience not to be missed.

This is a major trail, with plenty of good tracks. It also includes some charming undergrowth, fords and a few climbs! Crossing wide open spaces with the Pyrenees in the background adds the finishing touch.

If the landscapes covered by this stage show a certain continuity, combining agricultural valleys and wooded hills, this section of the Way of Arles is half Bigourdan, half Bearn, since it leaves the department of Hautes-Pyrénées to enter that of Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The entry in Béarn is marked by a beautiful point of view on the chain of the Pyrenees.

This tour is a real treat for mountain bikers! Along the shores of the Gabas lake, across the plains, admiring the Pyrenees, this is a quality programme. Mainly on tracks, with a few steep sections to spice up this magnificent route.

A short climb through undergrowth to get you going, a few wet stretches in winter, typical Béarnaises here and there... all the ingredients are there on the Chemin de Saint Martin for a pleasant family walk.

Come and stroll through this pretty Béarn town on the banks of the river Ousse. A 13th-century tower, part of the town?s ramparts and the 14th-century Gothic church still stand. In Place Du Barry stands a bronze goose, the advanced sentinel of Béarn, once responsible for warning Béarn towns threatened by invaders from Bigorre. The town?s coat of arms features a Latin motto: Melior vigilentia somno (Better watch than sleep). A 2 km circuit entitled "Pontacq, a heritage along the water" takes you on a tour of Pontacq's beautiful heritage. Open to all, all year round.

The Gothic church of Saint Michel de Montaner houses 15th century mural paintings, restored and enhanced by sound and light. A true glimpse of medieval society, these "comic strips" from another era stand out for their quality and the variety of scenes depicted. Fébus me fe…(Fébus made me) The donjon (or keep) still proudly stands in this large brick-red fortress. From this position of dominance, Gaston Fébus (1331-1391), the most flamboyant of Béarn princes, defended his sovereign state.

The site of Manas constitutes one of the last large groups of wet moors and dry moors in the context of the plain, in the eastern part of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Its diversity of flora and fauna makes it a remarkable and major site in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The wetlands are distributed along the stream of Lombré. Many rare and protected species can be found there, such as the Narthécie des marais, the Droséras and the Sphaignes. In addition to this wealth of vegetation, there is an equally diverse fauna, including a large number of insects, 40 species of butterflies and 20 species of dragonflies. The site also has a network of moors and dry grasslands, which are home to more than 50 species of birds, including the Black Woodpecker and the European Kingfisher. This family farm is located on the Ger plateau, at the gateway to Béarn and Bigorre. It is committed to sustainable, local agriculture, with a focus on the consumer through short distribution channels. Growing cereals, Florence and Aurélien decided in 2020 to set up a broiler poultry and laying hen farm. These chickens are bred from a hardy stock, raised in the open air and fed on the farm's own cereals. Installed on the promontory overlooking Lac du Gabas, near the start of the hiking trail, this orientation table with its sighting system will enable you to name all the peaks in our beloved Pyrenees.

Located at less than 7 kms from the highway A64 (Soumoulou exit), this beautiful 220 hectare lake will offer you an incredible view on the Pyrenees Mountains. The orientation table at the Maison Pêche Nature in Eslourenties-Daban provides you the opportunity to identify a lot of the Pyrenees’s peaks. You can do the tour of the lake by foot or by bike. Nautical activities are available. Fishing is allowed with a permit in authorized areas on riversides and on a boat. Picnic areas are at your disposal all around the lake. The basins downstream on the Gabas River at the Site Environnement Pêche are wonderful places to allow children to learn fishing. The Site Environnement Pêche is handicap accessible. A trail connects this site to the lake.

In the small wood, at the starting point of the hike, several picnic tables await you in the shade with a view of the lake.

It is in Lourenties, on the edge of the lake of Gabas, that you will find this picnic area and its barbecue, with a playground for the youngest and a city stadium. Nearby you will also find the green theatre and the Pyrenean sailing club

In Pontacq, behind the village hall, a large, tranquil area on the banks of the river Ousse offers a range of facilities for resting, playing or picnicking. A play area for toddlers, a basketball city stadium, ping-pong table, pump-track, table soccer and tables, barbecues and deckchairs.
