Tanneron, Land of Mimosa! A pleasant one-and-a-half-hour walk around the village to discover the village and its panoramic views, surrounded by mimosa trees from January to March. This is the easternmost commune of the Pays de Fayence in the Var department and the one featuring the most mimosa flowers, with its abundant "yellow forests". This is the largest area in France planted with both cultivated and wild mimosa. Around 1880, the mimosa, originally from Australia, made its appearance on the Côte d'Azur. In 1964, running water arrived in the village of Tanneron. Clinging to hillsides planted with mimosa, strawberries, flowers, heather, olive trees, pines, chestnut trees and cork oaks, the commune of Tanneron is made up of 22 hamlets. The cultivation of mimosa throughout the Tanneron area is now one of the finest treasures of this charming commune. These fluffy, bright yellow, fragrant little balls are beautiful to see in their natural environment. Departure: Tourist Office GPS coordinates: 43.590748, 6.875309 > ITINERARY A - Place de la Maire Panoramic view over the Alpes-Maritimes from Grasse to the Bay of Cannes. The square is home to a typical Provencal café dating from 1865. A little anecdote: Georges Clémenceau, MP for Var, is said to have stayed there in 1889! Opposite it, a water tank dating back to 1888 supplied the townspeople before water was pumped from the River Siagne in 1964. Behind the town hall, you can admire a pretty square and its fountain, renovated in 1997. Cross the square in the direction of the war memorial, built in 1921, continue along the Chemin de la Grille and turn left into the Carreiros district. B - Carreiros district / A little history View over the Bay of Cannes and the Mediterranean Sea. Continue along a dirt track where you turn right around the Colle d'Embarque district to access the walk through the mimosa plantations. At the end of the path, rejoin the tarmac track and take the dirt track on the left, Touordam (towards the municipal stadium) as far as the junction with the DFCI track: Touordam. On the road leading to the stadium, turn right and continue along the dirt track. Follow the signposts on the track around the village towards Notre-Dame de Peygros. C - The church of Notre-Dame de Peygros The church is located at the top of the hill where the view takes in Lake Saint-Cassien, Mont-Lachens (1,714 metres), Grasse and the village of Tanneron. The small Peygros chapel, now a church, was enlarged by its inhabitants between 1839 and 1844. Everyone contributed to the renovation by making their own contribution. The chevet has a semicircular apse and the faade is flanked by the square bell tower with its two bells, financed by local residents. From the church, head towards the Hubert Rouaud school, built in 1972. At the junction with the D38, turn right towards the village. From the car park, go along the cemetery and continue on the Chemin de Bessurane (GR®51) until the Saint-Claude chapel. 1- Take a sharp left on a paved road and then engage immediately left on the trail that rises abruptly. Go along the fences and through a woodland until an intersection. 2- At the sign-post 302, take the right path that leads to the Canal du Loup. Walk on the mountainside on a large platform and cross the small bridge of the Gourdon valley. Remain on the flat area and come out on the Chemin du Paradis. 3- Follow it to the left (GR®51). Reach the Foulon aqueduct, then climb many aery switchbacks and reach Gourdon. 4- Visit the picturesque streets of the village, then go back down until the canal du Loup by the same route. In point 3, turn left and continue down the Chemin du Paradis. Come out on the road of the old railway. 5- Make a sharp right and return to Bar-sur-Loup. 1km further, take the Chemin des Fontaites to the right. And return to the car park of the cemetery.

Continue on a wide stony path marked 27. 2- Go down slightly to the left on another track and continue on the marked stony path (PR) to go back on a grassland area. 3- fork to the right and get to the beacon 28. Then deviate slightly on the right via the beacon 29. Go back down a pebble road and join the small village of Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne through small paved roads.

Go past the remarkable ruined sheepfold and continue 500 m to the crossroads. 3- Go down on the right on the path of "Mangia Pan" to find a track to reach the intersection. 4- Take the path on the right to return to point 1. Take the path used to go back to the Plan des Noves car park.

A wild immersion between crystal clear waters, limestone cliffs and vestiges of the past. Estimated duration: 5 hours Markings: GPS Departure: Village of Escragnolles Starting from the village of Escragnolles, this hike begins with a technical descent marked to ‘dive’ towards the source of the Siagne de la Pare, a veritable haven of freshness hidden at the bottom of the valley. The effort then intensifies with the climb up to the Briasq plateau, a vast, unspoilt area. The trail then runs along the foothills of Baou Mourine, offering a magnificent panorama of the Côte d'Azur and the Mediterranean in the distance. The return journey takes you through the hamlet of Rouyère, where the trail winds its way between the remains of old charcoal kilns, evidence of the pastoral and forestry activities of yesteryear. The loop ends gently at a place called La Colette before returning to the heart of the village.

In the unique setting of the International Perfume Museum Gardens, visitors can discover and smell the species that have provided precious raw materials for perfumery for centuries. Centifolia rose, jasmine, tuberose, lavender, geranium, juniper, orange blossom – it is of plants that perfumes are truly born, essences from near or far. Beautifully set amid fields of perfume plants traditionally grown in the Grasse region, the International Perfume Museum Gardens are part of the regional project lead by the communauté d’agglomération (conurbation authority) and have become the museum’s plant conservatory, a natural space representing the region’s olfactory landscape and its relationship and history with local agriculture. Built around a venerable canal and an agricultural basin, the site spreads across two hectares. Here, fields of plants traditionally grown as perfumery crops lie alongside landscaped areas displaying various collections of fragrant or aromatic plants. These primarily serve to support conservation of the varietal diversity of species traditionally cultivated for perfumery. They also reflect the olfactory landscape of local agriculture. Enjoy a stroll through the gardens and discover plants arranged by their olfactory notes: citrus, floral, woody, spicy, fruity, musky, and more.

The landscaping of the 3-hectare park, which surrounds the 16th century castle, was entrusted to Gilles Clément and the landscaper François Navarro. The project for the redevelopment of the Château de Mouans-Sartoux Park, designed by Gilles Clément, a gardener and landscape architect, in collaboration with landscape architect François Navarro, was created to highlight the park’s initial modes of use and to increase the circulation of visitors between The «Glade of the gardens», around the castle, and the «Bois des transparences». A beautiful square platform in front of the castle hosts the summer events, «a garden of 7 colors» alongside a new meadow planted with figs and olive trees. The terrace of the plum trees and the wisteria of the north of the Castle are the first step towards the «Bois des transparences». In the woods, a group of small clearings punctuated with 26 stone monoliths inspired by a block of stone preexisting on the spot are used as benches, fountains in bird bath, bollards and water points on which are engraved names corresponding to the French names of the plants present in the garden of 7 colors. The «Ateliers Pédagogiques» created by Marc Barani and the «Préau des enfants», where their works are exhibited, focus on children and adults. The «rural» esplanade is treated in olive groves and figueraie as originally, it is a multi-generational reception place intended to receive the many events organized in Mouans-Sartoux.

The “Reflections of a Rural World” ethnographic museum, housed in the Chateau’s former stables, is a chance to discover or rediscover the traditional activities practiced in the Grasse region between 1900 and 1950. The displays in the three exhibition rooms were made possible by donations from Mouans-Sartoux families, collected over a period of years by the city’s Centre d’Activités Culturelles Occitanes (Occitan cultural activity center). In the largest display room, there is a reassembled oil mill surrounded by a variety of objects related to oil, olive trees, and winegrowing, which were the traditional economic activities in Mouans-Sartoux at that time. Another room features flower and perfume-plant crops as the theme. Large posters illustrate each activity, created from enlargements of photos loaned by the people of Mouans-Sartoux. The third room presents a reconstituted period kitchen and bedroom, with tools and utensils used in the various trades of early last century. The museum is open daily and admission is free.

ROSE CENTIFOLIA Often called the “May rose” after its blooming month, the Centifolia rose is one of the emblematic perfume flowers of the Pays de Grasse. The blooms are picked each morning, when they are at their most fragrant. The harvest continues for four to six weeks, from May into early June, depending on the amount of sunlight during the period. To preserve their freshness and fragrance, the flowers are taken daily to be processed to produce the essences used in Dior fragrances. The Centifolia rose, with its honeyed and peppery notes, is one of a kind. The Saint-Jacques du Couloubrier estate is considered as a reference for typical Grasse landscape. The original owners of the 1870s, the Amics were a perfume trader, followed by Jean Prouvost, owner of the northern fillies and founder of the Paris-Match press group, who made the estate an agricultural property dedicated to perfume, to the olive grove and vineyard but also home of reception. He will have the garden landscaped in 1940 by Russel PAGES, English landscape internationally renowned and whose Domaine Saint-Jacques du Couloubrier is one of his finest works.
