Along the way, stop off at the Château de Ventadour. Nearby, the Pays de Tulle blends the gentleness of its valleys with the tumultuous course of its torrents. Gimel is home to three impressive waterfalls. Heading up towards the medieval towns of Corrèze and Treignac, a completely different spectacle awaits you, with the grandiose landscapes of the Monédières, where heather blooms and blueberries grow.

With a length of 80.5 km, this circuit follows a hilly route accentuated for the most athletic among you! It is an opportunity to put your calves to the test with the incredible scenery that makes our charming Corrèze so beautiful! The circuit starts in Meymac (at an altitude of 650 m), at the foot of Mont Bessou. A member of the "Les Plus Beaux Détours de France" network, Meymac is a must-see destination for lovers of old stones... The natural heritage around Meymac, gateway to the Millevaches Regional Nature Park, will not leave you unmoved: forests, pastures, peat bogs... Mount Bessou is the highest point on the Millevaches plateau, reaching an altitude of 976 metres. After a short and sportive climb up the steps of its panoramic tower, you can look out over the horizon at a symbolic altitude of 1,000 metres and observe the mountains of the Auvergne.

Rise above the Limousin Mountains and discover this ocean of nature dotted with a multitude of picturesque villages. Climb the paths and gaze at the distant horizons of the Monts d'Auvergne. Climb the few steps of the panoramic Tour du Mont Bessou, which raises you to the highest point in the Limousin and the Montagne Limousine, at an altitude of 1,000 m. This route is proposed by the Comité Régional de Randonnée Pédestre. Departing from a train station or TER bus stop, it allows you to join a walking or hiking itinerary, and take a stroll in ecomobility!

Bretèche or pierced chamber? this machicolated room protruding from a facade was used in the Middle Ages as a defensive structure above entrance doors or as a private toilet, an outward sign of wealth.

With its steep slate roofs and granite stones, Meymac proudly displays its mountain character. At the gateway to the Millevaches plateau, Meymac's picturesque lanes wind through the upper town, around the clock tower, and the lower town, around the former Saint-André abbey. La Turgotière is the road established by Turgot, Intendant of Limousin and Minister of Finance under Louis XVI, to facilitate East-West trade, i.e. between Limoges and Bort-les-Orgues. He is said to have often slept in the monastery, in the wing now occupied by the Centre d?Art Contemporain, where the upper floors were reserved for important people.

Belfry: 13th century. The Midi gateway and the castle's defensive system. The watchtower became the belfry when, in 1265, Eble VII, Viscount of Ventadour granted a communal charter.

Maison de Ville des Ventadour: 15th-century house with old watchtower and mullioned windows. Also worth discovering is a half-timbered section built over an old alleyway.

Cross in key (granite): this astonishing granite cross, once located on the site of the old cemetery around the church and relocated in 1873, features a complex system of double undulations, with a skilful interplay of solids and voids, giving it an impression of great lightness. It features a Calvary scene on one side and the Virgin and Child on the other. Because of its obvious stylistic freedom, it is difficult to date, probably to the 15th century.

In 1085, a certain Archambaud III, Viscount of Comborn, founded the monastery of Meymac as a result of his unworthy behavior. At first, it was a priory dependent on the abbey of Uzerche. But following the intrigue of a monk (prior Hugues de Besse in 1145) who, on his own authority, wanted to turn the priory into an abbey (often a convent of Benedictine rule) and take over its management, there were long and sometimes heated discussions between the cloister of Uzerche and that of Meymac. The monk eventually gave in, but the title of abbey remained (1146). Until 1824, the abbey was under threat, but was saved by Prosper Mérimée?s classification as a Monument Historique in 1840, and work campaigns from 1846 onwards contributed to its complete renovation. Among the figures who have left their mark on the town of Meymac, there is one who left a particularly strong memory in the minds of its inhabitants: he was the creator of the wine trade in Meymac-près-Bordeaux. He was Jean-Gaye Bordas, known as "barlet", the small barrel maker who built the Moine-Larose castle, the first turreted building in the town

Hall: Dating back to the 16th century, this hall is associated with the memory of the "b?uf gras" (fattened ox) eaten on Mardi Gras. On the preceding Wednesday, the eggs, which were to be sacrificed, were carried through the streets of the town, escorted by the local population. The sacrifice took place on Thursday, under the covered market transformed into a slaughterhouse for the occasion, and attracted a large audience.
