Situated on the final spur of the Plateau de Millevaches, between Diège and Sarsonne, Ussel is a fine example of the Corrèze's medieval past. This old town was once a judicial and ducal centre and the seat of the seneschal of Ventadour; the lords of Ventadour built a town mansion here in the 16C. The old town is home to Renaissance-style houses, a museum and churches housing some fine examples of religious art.

Le moulin de Bétinac, situé sur la commune de Valièrgue, est l'un des dernier, voire le dernier moulin à vent de Corrèze. Contruit en 1840, il a été restauré dans les années 70, puis au début des années 2000 et est aujourd'hui en bon état de marche.

At an altitude of 572 metres, on a rocky spur which dominates the Soudeillette and Vigne gorges by two hundred metres, the Ventadour castle stands with its imposing ruins in a site which evokes both the power of medieval feudalism and the blossoming of courtly love, to which the name of the troubadour Bernard de Ventadour remains attached. The castle site was built in the 11th century and the oldest remains currently preserved date back to the end of the 12th century. The ramparts, the round tower, the seigneurial dwelling and the chapel of Saint-Georges can still be seen today. The castle commanded the Viscounty of Ventadour, the towns of Ussel and Egletons. For more than a century (12th - 13th century), the castle of Ventadour was a centre of artistic creation, one of the most important in Occitan countries.

Tulle, the préfecture (main administrative centre) of the Corrèze, has an attractive, unspoilt atmosphere. Its main attraction is the medieval quarter of the Enclos, a maze of narrow streets and staircases that wind between tall houses adorned with wooden balconies. Near the cathedral, the Maison Loyac is an architectural masterpiece dating from the 16C. Tulle is famous for its lace and is also the capital of the accordion, which is celebrated every year at the Festival des Nuits de Nacre.

Gimel stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the magnificent Gorges de la Montane. Here, the three waterfalls known as the Saut, Redole and Queue-de-Cheval stand at a height of between 38 and 60 metres. A footpath leads to these unforgettable falls, allowing visitors to appreciate the force of the water at close proximity. In the village, Église St Pardoux houses the priceless enamel shrine of St Etienne.

Un des plus beaux sites naturels de la Corrèze situé à 12 km au nord-ouest de Tulle. Les cascades sont composées de trois chutes successives de la rivière la Montane d'une hauteur totale de 143 mètres : le Grand Saut de 45m, la Redole de 38 m et la Queue de Cheval de 60 m. Cette dernière plonge dans le ''gouffre de l'inferno''. Abel Hugo, le frère de Victor Hugo, a le premier décrit ces cascades dans un ouvrage intitulé ''la France pittoresque'' (1883). De nombreux itinéraires fléchés longent les cascades au sein du parc Vuillier, du nom du peintre Gaston Vuillier qui l'aménagea entre 1893 et 1899. Le site n'est pas accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite. Il est également déconseillé aux personnes souffrant de problèmes cardiaques. L’été les parents de jeunes enfants peuvent laisser les poussettes au guichet. Les chiens sont les bienvenus si tenus en laisse.

The Corrèze river has given its name to this charming small town and to the département. Dating back to the 9C, the old fortified town has retained its slate roofs and parts of its ramparts last breached in the 16C.

The President Jacques Chirac Museum houses the 5,000 diplomatic gifts given to the President between 1995 and 2007. Jacques Chirac in turn became a donor by choosing to give them to the Departmental Council of Corrèze. In addition to this initial function, there is now a desire to present to visitors the character of the President of the Republic, and more particularly the history of the role and powers of the eight heads of state of the Fifth Republic. This transformation will take place over several seasons, but will begin in 2023 with the discovery of the office of the Presidents of the Republic in the Élysée Palace, the Salon Doré. The diplomatic gifts given to Jacques Chirac are and will always be presented in the heart of the visitable reserve. Temporary or seasonal exhibitions are also available.

The medieval town of Treignac is situated at the foot of Les Monédières, on the banks of the River Vézère. Old bridges dating from the 13C, chapels, a corn market, a 15C tower and numerous old houses make this an attractive town to visit. Treignac is also renowned for its white-water sports and has hosted the World Canoeing Championships.

Le site archéologique des Cars est l’un des plus remarquables sites antiques du Limousin. Entre landes et forêts, sur le Plateau de Millevaches, une villa et deux tombeaux-temples nous racontent une histoire vieille de presque 2000 ans. On ignore l’identité des propriétaires. Mais est-ce là le plus important ? Tenez, par exemple, le site est sans défense et affiche un luxe démesuré : étonnant, non ? Signe probable d’une longue période de paix et de richesse… Des surprises, il y en a pour toutes et tous, petits et grands, amoureux de l’Histoire, curieux des techniques de construction, de l’agriculture, de la gestion de l’eau, des rites religieux, du patrimoine, des énigmes… et même de l’hygiène ! Ainsi, tout au long de la visite, le site des Cars nous parle de nous presque autant que de la période impériale romaine.

A biological environment of major European interest, this peat bog lies at an altitude of 900m in the communes of Meymac, St Merd-les-Oussines, Chavanac and St Sulpice-les-Bois. It occupies a huge 250ha depression, where numerous springs and streams merge to form the Vézère. Its size, unusual landscapes and the diversity of its flora and fauna make the Tourbière du Longeyroux one of the natural gems of the Plateau de Millevaches. Two paths allow visitors access to the peat bog. A booklet providing information on the two waymarked paths and the bog is available from Haute Corrèze Tourist Offices in Meymac and Bugeat (1€).

The motorhome site is located on the D109, direction Tarnac. It includes 4 shaded sites with public lighting. Services: Water, electricity hookups, Chemical Disposal Point, dustbin. Fee. Price: 2 euros (tokens available at the Auberge du Mont Chauvet).

Highest point in the Limousin on the D36, 4km north of Meymac. Situated at an altitude of 1,000m, this observatory has a viewpoint overlooking the Monts du Cantal and Monts de l’Auvergne.

A picnic area has been set up at the Col de Lestards, 856 m above sea level. There is also an orientation table offering a superb view of all the Cantal mountains.
