"La Salette" came into being following a pilgrimage by the parish priest of Saint-Clément in the Grenoble diocese in 1865. In gratitude for the graces he received, he had statues, a Virgin Mary and a small chapel installed, which took the name of La Salette.

This easy route, ideal for families, is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility. The 27-hectare Plan d'Eau de Saint-Clément nestles in the heart of the Besbre valley, on the borders of the communes of Châtel-Montagne, Saint-Clément and Le Mayet-de-Montagne.

An easy trail where walkers can observe kingfishers, grey herons and many other passerines. The walk passes close to Lac des Moines, a seven-hectare lake that is a favourite with anglers. Numerous facilities have been installed for local residents and tourists alike, such as the coulée verte linking the center of Le Mayet.

Le Mayet-de-Montagne, at a crossroads, lies on a plateau bordered by the Besbre and Sichon valleys. To the south, the commune is dominated by the Bizin. For several decades, Le Bizin provided granite for the granite-makers of Le Mayet-de-Montagne. This granite had the particularity of containing large pink crystals: feldspar. These encrustations in the stone are called toads.

The team at the lake offers water sports activities. Stand-up paddle (we do not give lessons). We provide all equipment and safety instructions.

Free visit thanks to information boards. The old slaughterhouse was restored in 2005 to present an exhibition about the town History, cultural and architectural heritage : church, character houses, mills...

This is a well covered with a roof from the 17th century. The site was named after the passage of the famous thief Louis Mandrin on December 22nd 1754 through Le Breuil hostel. He attacked policemen but succeded to flee.

Free visit with a leaflet. This church is an ancient seigniorial chapel (12th century). It was restored and welcome 3 stained-glass windows of the demolished Saint-Blaise chruch. Tosee : architectural elements and the tombstone of Alix de Breuil (1300).

Lively guided visit (twinned wheels, miller's bedroom, machines) about the live into the mill and its develoment from 1825 until our time. The mill is situated at the bottom of Montagne Bourbonnaise and by the river Barbenan. Charm and authenticity aren't be lacking !

The history of Ambierle is tied up with that of its Abbey and of its Priory founded in the 10th century.
