Cour du Bailli La: Discover Bergheim and Alsace

By following Géovino in Bergheim, you'll understand what an appellation is. You'll learn about its variations, its classification system, and even be able to read the different vineyard appellations in the landscape! To start the walk, head to the totem pole in Bergheim's town garden. Cross the town garden until you reach the wine route, then head for the cycle path on rue de Weibelsgass.

Go back to the past on the trail of the lost heritage of Bergheim, and its rich and tumultuous history. Time: two loops, one lasting 2.5 hours and the other 5 hours Trail markers: follow the legendary white ladies signs Start: Car park of the Schwemm (Faubourg Saint-Pierre)

This trail leads you through vineyards and forest to the highest point of the route, the Schüsselstein rock at 543m. You will pass under the Reichenberg castle to cross the road to Thannenkirch and stop at the old water reservoir. The climb through the forest then leads through the chestnut groves to the Saint Jean rock and the Schlüsselstein. After a well-deserved break, the descent begins in the forest of Ribeauvillé and the vineyards until the return to the starting point.

Self-guided tour via informative signs. Guided tours in July and August on Wednesdays at 3pm followed by a free wine tasting. At the end of the visit, a tasting will be offered at the Eclos des Vignes with the possibility of tasting a charcuterie board (5€).

By following Géovino to Rorschwihr, you'll understand what terroirs are and what makes them up. Why are they so rich, precisely here in Rorschwihr? To begin the walk, meet at the totem pole near the Rorschwihr church. Head towards rue de l'église, then right towards rue des moutons. Then join the Grand'rue on the right as far as Hohlenweg.

Start this trail not far from Ribeauvillé where the vestiges of the three castles belonging to the Lords of Ribeaupierre look out over the town, nestling in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards. After the mediaeval, wine-growing fortified town of Bergheim, you go on to the forest, mountains and a steeper slope towards Thannenkirch located at the foot of Taennchel Mountain, an ideal location for rambling. You then go sharply downhill to Saint-Hippolyte and gently return to Ribeauvillé via the Romanesque route, where you can spot Rodern, Rorschwihr and Bergheim, perched on the hillsides, and home to several vintage wines.

Following Géovino to Rodern, you'll discover how winegrowers work through the seasons. Then you'll learn how they transform grapes into wine, all in the words of these vineyard artisans. To start the walk, meet at the totem pole in front of Rodern town hall. Then leave the town hall on your right to continue straight ahead into rue du Pinot Noir. At the crossroads, turn left into rue de Thannenkirch.

By following Géovino to Ribeauvillé, you'll understand how vines became established in Alsace, as well as how they have evolved over time, right up to the present day. To begin the walk, meet at the totem pole next to the Ribeauvillé winegrower's fountain near the Tourist Office. Walk up the Grand'rue. After passing the butchers' tower, turn right onto rue de l'Abbé Louis Kremp. At the end of this street, turn left to reach the staircase leading to the vineyard.

Located on the Wine Route, between the vineyards and mountains, half-way between Strasbourg and Mulhouse, Ribeauvillé is an attractive town with 5000 inhabitants, which has combined its historical heritage with modernity. The town and neighbouring hills are dominated by the majestic ruins of the Three Castles of the Lords of Ribeaupierre. You pass a curious building made of Vosges sandstone. This is the Haut-Koenigsbourg pumping station and its neighbouring building, which houses the spring catchment. Despite its modest dimensions, this building impresses with its neo-Romanesque style. It is reminiscent of the Metz railway station, also built in a style close to the 12th century, that of the time of the Hohenstaufen, the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. On the top of the facade, there is a representation of the imperial eagle and the year 1901.

The ruin of the Oedenbourg, also known as Petit-Koenigsbourg, is not currently open to visitors, but you can see some beautiful remains behind a fence, notably a blind shield wall and several Gothic windows that mark the former dwelling (14th century). First mentioned in the 12th century, the castle was enlarged several times and finally abandoned in the 15th century (hence its name Oedenbourg - abandoned castle).

This small sandstone fountain, built in 1901, bears a Gothic German inscription meaning "May our language flow pure and clear, like the spring in the mountain".
