Who could imagine nowadays that the peaceful village of Martinpuich was once the theatre of terrible battles during the First World War? English writer Rudyard Kipling, who lost his only son in the war, chose “Their name liveth for evermore”, taken from the Book of Ecclesiasticus, to be the phrase that would be engraved on all the memorial stones.
