A terraced walk from the Rhone River up to the source of a small tributary. Thanks to the small signs indicating the way all along the itinerary, you'll get to discover a natural and cultural heritage linked to water. Discovery of the Rhone River, the vineyard, the cellar of the Lucey Castle and the swamp of the Puits d'Enfer. Difficulty : medium. Duration : 8 hours. From the Parves viewpoint, this hike crosses the hamlets of Montpellaz and Sorbier to reach Grand Ecrivieux in Massignieu-de-Rives, offering a very beautiful view of the Belley basin. A looping route starting in Jongieux that takes in the northern part of the vineyards. It's a fairly strenuous but not too technical route, combining vineyard paths, forest tracks and small roads through the wine-growing hamlets. The highlight is the panoramic site of Saint-Romain overlooking the Rhône and Yenne. Be sure to stay on the signposted paths so as not to interfere with the work in the vineyards.

With its double summit, La Charvaz offers a panorama of choice between the Jura and the Alps. Overlooking the entire vineyard, this summit remains a sporting challenge due to the difficulty of the final ascent on steep slopes. The Charvaz mountain is pronounced La Charve. Today, the ‘geodesic north’ summit offers an open view of the Grand Colombier and the Jura mountain range, the northern part of Lac du Bourget and the northern part of the Alps (Mont Blanc Massif). Facing the Dent du Chat, the ‘south’ summit dominates the Savoyard foreland and offers a bird's-eye view of the entire Jongieux-Marestel wine-growing area. Since 2010, this exceptional landscape has received national recognition through its classification. This site forms a remarkable composition with its limestone slopes and the layering of vines from the banks of the Rhône. This landscape is the legacy of the retreat of the Rhône and Isère glaciers. During the summer, the Charvaz cliffs give back the heat accumulated during the day, which favours the cultivation of vines. The cliffs dominate a varied natural landscape of woodland, meadows and wetlands, providing an ideal habitat for nesting birds of prey. An emblematic species of the Natura 2000 site, the peregrine falcon nests on the cliffs and can be observed. The Short-toed Eagle is also a regular visitor to the site, feeding in the open areas and nesting on the higher ground. The golden eagle can be seen occasionally and is trying to establish a permanent presence in the area.

A family-run business for 4 generations, Caveau Quinard, whose vines are located on the high banks of the Rhône Valley in Massignieu-de-Rives, close to the ViaRhôna, has been organically farmed since 2010. The Quinard estate comprises 12.5 hectares of vines. The vineyards are farmed organically. The Musée des Traditions Vigneronnes (Museum of Winegrowing Traditions) houses one of the largest and most beautiful collections of ancient tools (over 1300) and objects related to the work of the vine and wine. The Musée des Traditions Vigneronne was born of the Caveau Bugiste's desire to preserve the memory of the gestures and skills of yesteryear. The exhibits come from the Caveau's own research, as well as from a personal collection built up over more than 20 years by Jean-Pierre Melin, an equally enthusiastic Bugiste. - Fossous, départoirs and échaudeuses recall the patient stages leading up to the grape's blossoming. - Rassiots, gauges and presses illustrate the skilful winemaking process. - Verdondaines, jabloirs and dolloires evoke the perfect mastery of the cooper. Many of these objects date from the 18th century, and some are rare and even unique. The EARL Domaine Monin is housed in an old Savoyard fortified manor house in the village of Vongnes. Here M. Varin-Bernier will give you a warm welcome and offer advice about their choice of wines from their 400 year old vineyard. The EARL Domaine Monin has been open to the public since 1969 and is open for business 7 days a week until 19:00. The Monin family produces 2 varieties of white wine both from the Chardonnay grape as well as a rosé from a blend of Pinot-Noir, Gamay and Mondeuse. These 3 cépages are also used in the production of the Caveau Domaine Monin’s extensiverange of red wines. There are also 4 different types of sparkling wine available made using both the méthode ancestral and méthode traditionnelle techniques in addition to both Fine and Marc de Bugey digestives. The Caveau Domaine de Monin also has a gîte that can accommodate up to 6 guests available for rent.

Saint Jean-Baptiste’s Cathedral was classified as a historic monument in 1906. The building you see today dates mainly from the 19th century but its northern portal is from the 12th century and its apse dates from the 15th century. Historically Belley was the capital and ecclesiastical centre of Bugey. There has been a cathedral in the town since the year 722. The first major rebuilding project of the cathedral took place during the 12th century. This was followed in 1440 by the total reconstruction of the building which only left the northern doorway from the 12th century design intact. The cathedral was extensively damaged during the French Revolution when all of its relics were destroyed along with its bells. Worse was to follow in 1822 when an earthquake inflicted even more damage on building. After this near catastrophic event the Bishop of Belley decided to once again rebuild the cathedral. Architect Antoine Chenavard designed a building in the gothic style, work commenced in 1835 and finished in 1851. This impressive building can be viewed today and houses several works of religious art including a statue of the Virgin Mary by Joseph Chinard.

This very pleasant walk will plunge you into the heart of the Lavours Marsh Nature Reserve. You'll be able to appreciate its beauty and richness. Be attentive and discreet... at every hour and in every season, something is happening in the marsh. A 320 m² discovery area, consisting of 5 themed rooms, the Maison du marais offers a modern and interactive museography (videos, interactive terminals, etc.) to help you understand the fauna and flora of the marsh, its history, its formation and its current management. The Maison du marais aims to prepare for a visit to the nature reserve or to complete it. It is also an information point, a nature shop and a refreshment bar.

This quiet and natural lake is a marvelous place to relax and swim in summer. Fishing is also allowed all year long. Paddleboarding and canoeing are not permitted. A 7 km (2-hour) hiking trail allows you to explore the area and admire the legends of Bugey carved into the rock: Gargantua and La Vouivre. Lake Barterand was awarded the "ENS" label by the Ain Department in 2017.
