Description
A terraced walk from the Rhone River up to the source of a small tributary. Thanks to the small signs indicating the way all along the itinerary, you'll get to discover a natural and cultural heritage linked to water. Discovery of the Rhone River, the vineyard, the cellar of the Lucey Castle and the swamp of the Puits d'Enfer. Difficulty : medium. Duration : 8 hours.
Like a sailor of yesteryear, you follow the old towpath along the Rhône. Fortunately, you don't have to haul your boat like he did. Take full advantage of the scenery offered by the wide river, whose waters flow all the way down to the Mediterranean.
Is it now the eye of the squire or the eye of the winemaker that you will cast on the château-caveau de Lucey?
A little further on, a dull, crystalline rumble catches your ear. You're on your way to a waterfall. And it's with the miller's foot that you now follow the stream in search of the mills, in the cool undergrowth.
By the time you reach the marais des puits d'enfer, the landscape is so gentle that it's not the devil you'd expect to come across here. But you can wait for him for a while, taking a break in this peaceful spot.
On the way back down, like a lord surveying his lands, gaze out over the vineyards and river that stretch out at your feet.

On Route Départementale 921, head for Lucey. Park in the municipal parking lot near the Auberge de Lucey restaurant. Free parking.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Start: from the parking lot in the village center, 230 m to "Curtillet".
1/ At "Curtillet", follow the Rhône upstream.
2/ Head towards the church along the D210.
3/ Cross the bend in the D210, and continue upstream along the Biez Blanc stream and its mill remains.
4/ Between Les Puthods (320 m) and Crémon, the route follows the GR9-GR65.
5/ Then cross Crémon at 325 m and climb back onto the RD210.
6/ After a weir on the stream, leave the road and enter the forest.
7/ Return to the Puits d'Enfer marsh site.
8/ At the "Le Plat" sign at 460 m, leave the road and take the path back down to Lucey via Vraisin. Views over the Rhône and vineyards.
