Easy but relatively long route to stroll along the banks of the Isère and cross a multitude of small hamlets. A route whose roads crisscross the walnut groves along which one can discover the traditional nut driers. From Grenoble at Porte de France, take the right bank cycle path to Saint-Quentin-sur-Isère. Fork right towards Tullins then left after the highway bridge, direction Poliénas by the small roads pass by les Massons, right Gabinot, Gaberne, left Parisette, right Burilloux, Guiers right Mill, le Guy, le Puits, join the D48a until Poliénas. Return after crossing the D48a, via the Château, les Pautres, Verdemont, les Moiles, le Manguely, les Massons to the Saint-Quentin Bridge. At the entrance of the bridge, find the cycle track on the bank on the left to return to the starting point in Grenoble.

A gentle start along the Isère which will lead you without difficulty by the Col de la Placette to dominate the hills of Valdaine and the blue waters of Lake Paladru. From Grenoble, from the Quai de France, take the lane on the bank of the Isère right bank to the Veurey Bridge. After the bridge, join Voreppe by taking the Roise footbridge on the right. In the village turn left on the D520 and attack the Col de la Placette (the climb is pleasant thanks to the corridor fitted out for cycle tourists). From the pass, go down to the Demay bridge and turn left towards St-Etienne-de-Crossey, then in the village take the D49 opposite towards St-Nicolas-de-Macherin and Chirens by a small portion of the D1075. At Chirens, turn left towards Clermont and Colletière and take the D50d to reach Paladru and follow the lake towards Charavines. Shortly before Charavines, turn right on the D50e towards Oyeu, then left on the D520e towards Colombe and Rives, and finally left towards Renage. Descend towards Tullins along the Fure, in the village, take the D1092 at the traffic lights on the right, and then shortly after on the left take the D45 in the direction of St-Quentin-sur-Isère. Before the Isère Bridge, find the cycle path on the bank on the left for a return to Grenoble by the opposite route. (Distance about 45 km)

Les Chemins du Soleil offers you the opportunity to discover the Pre-Alps from Valence to Sisteron: From the Rhône Valley to the Provencal Alps (Valence-Gap-Sisteron) Following in the footsteps of the famous Chemins du Soleil mountain bike raid, the "Valence-Gap-Sisteron" takes you through the vineyards of the Diois, beneath the foothills of the Vercors. A short mountain break in Dévoluy takes you to the valleys of Gapençais. Then head south, via a little Provençal mountain-biking paradise: the Buëch region, to Sisteron, gateway to Provence. Between Valence and Gap, the route follows the axis of several valleys, giving it a safer feel. An open route on the mountain. Leave Grenoble by the Saint-Laurent district located in the heart of the historic city to join the Balcons Sud de la Chartreuse road and find yourself in the heart of the massif and exceptional forests. From Grenoble on the right bank, place de la Cimaise, take rue Saint-Laurent to the Casemates then the Quai de l'Isère towards La Tronche. After the town hall, turn left on the D512 and go up towards Sappey-en-Chartreuse. A stopover is essential to enjoy the panorama of the Grenoble area, Vercors, Oisans and Belledonne. At the Col de Vence, on the left take the D57f in the direction of Quaix-en-Chartreuse. After the Col de Clémencière, on the left the D105a towards Quaix-en-Chartreuse and continue until Monta. Take the D105 on the left towards Saint-Égrève and join the cycle path along the Isère for the return to Grenoble.

The discovery begins with a splendid view of Grenoble from the Bastille and ends at the Fort du Saint Eynard. This monumental work of art offers an incomparable spectacle of the surrounding mountains.

The GTV (for Grand Tour du Vercors) is the opposite to the very high speed TGV!No high speed here, but one of the many hiking itineraries in the massif, to be enjoyed at a leisurely walking pace, taking in each landscape, mountain and viewpoint. Note, the 23 day duration to complete the Great Crossing of the Vercors by foot is given as an indication, and may be varied according to your hiking level and speed. The Great Crossing explores the trails of the Vercors Regional Natural Park. Created in 1970, the Park extends from 180 to 2,341 metres in altitude, culminating in the Grand Veymont and the Rocher Rond.The region brings together seven geographical sectors: the Quatre-Montagnes, the Coulmes, the Drome Vercors, the Royans, the Diois, the Trièves and the Gervanne. Alongside the Isère, we find the cool Northern Alps, whilst in the Drôme, the Mediterranean climate and fragrant vegetation perfume the paths. To the north and south, the massif is covered by a thick layer of limestone, which, through erosion, has created the spectacular landscapes: gorges, needles, cliffs, lapiaz… And when we say an exceptional environment, we also find amazing flora and fauna.But the Vercors is also a place where people live: 54,000 inhabitants are spread across the region, with the old "Vertacomicoriens" mixing with new residents attracted by the exceptional quality of life. The itinerary goes through numerous villages amongst the 84 in the park, ideal to visit and restock on supplies. After a magnificent day of hiking, who can resist the delicious "vercouline", a local speciality based on Vercors-Sassenage blue cheese? A variant to the main tour is a 60 kilometre trail going through the High Plateaux at the heart of the Nature Reserve. Created in 1985, the reserve nestles at the heart of the Vercors Park, in its highest and wildest area. No roads, no villages. The scarcity of surface water has prevented a permanent human presence. The only activities are grazing, which is still alive, and forestry. Its main task is to preserve and study nature. For this, the six reserve rangers conduct observations of the fauna and flora. Another specificity of this region: very little itinerary signposting, no real refuges, but instead unmanned cabins and shelters. These conditions may seem restrictive at first sight, but they provide the guarantee of total immersion in this rich, preserved natural environment. From the "Grand Tour" itinerary, you can also take a trip to the Vercors Haut-Plateaux at any time. Invent your own "GTV"!

Explore the footsteps of the priest of Saint-Nizier, who used to walk down to celebrate mass in the village of Engins, through the "Pas" whith that name. Departure from the center of the village of Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte. A little after the roundabout in the direction of Grenoble, head towards the crossroads of the Grande Fontaine 1. From there, follow Le Pas du Curé. You then enter the forest through Le Corba 2 and Sous la Falaise 3. The trail then winds through technical passages along the cliff. You can then admire the parade of the Coulou. At Batardière 4, you follow the road to the Barrage d'Engins 5 which you cross to join the hamlet of Les Jaux 6. At Les Jaux follow the GR9 which goes between two houses. Cross a footbridge over the Furon River, then a field before attacking a strong road twist (slippery in rainy weather) to access the Pas de la Corne 7. The return to the village of Saint-Nizier is done by GR 9 through Le Goulet des Moulins 8.

Discover the viewpoint of the Dent du Loup and the Plateau de Sornin. Perched at 1500 meters above sea level, it overlooks a part of the Isère valley. Departure from the parking of the Leisure Center of Engins. Follow the yellow and green markings at first before taking the GR 9. Take the path that goes up in the forest towards La Croisette 1. At this crossing, follow the GR9 which will take you to Sornin 2 by a forest road, then turn left to reach La Cote 1545 meters 3. Rally the Dent du Loup 5 through Plateau de Sornin 4. From there, a superb panorama awaits you (be careful, cliff edge!). To return, head towards the Hamlet of Sornin 6 passing by the crossroads Plateau de Sornin. Then take the path that descends into the forest towards Fournel 7, then continue for a short time on the road to the Center of Leisure (700 meters approximately).

A loop to admire one of the most beautiful points of view on Grenoble and discover the fort, perched at 1338m, built between 1873 and 1879 to protect the city from aggression since the valley as from the mountain - yet it has never been used!

The museum traces the history, techniques and applications of the chemical industry in southern Grenoble from 1915 to the present day. Self-guided tour, guided tour or audioguide via the Tellnoo app. Located in Jarrie, on the first floor of the town hall, in the heart of the Clos Jouvin municipal park, the museum is set in the preserved environment of the old, cool, vaulted cellars of the manor house. The tour presents the history of chemistry since antiquity, and traces the history, techniques and applications of the chemical industry in southern Grenoble, from 1915 to the present day. Chemistry in the 21st century, omnipresent in our daily lives and essential to meeting the challenges of sustainable development, is more innovative and responsible than ever. The tour route, completely renovated in 2014, is punctuated by new open-access workbenches: build a Volta cell, perform electrolysis or operate a fuel cell! A video consultation area and a library are available to the public. A new mediation and exhibition room allows you to visit the Chemistry Museum according to its programming. The castle shelters the museum of the French Revolution since 1984. The collections gather pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings. On July 21st 1788, the castle of Vizille entered History. The Etats Généraux of the Dauphiné meeting which had been forbade by Grenoble authorities had been thus sheltered by Claude Perrier. Seduced by the liberal ideas, his castle sheltered this meeting. 187 members of the Tiers Etats, 49 clergymen and 159 noblemen deliberated during 16 hours. In demanding the meeting of the Etats généraux this event is considered to have triggered the Revolution. The Salle du jeu de paume which was the witness of this event have burnt during the fire of 1865. Its implantation is now symbolised by a terrace planted with trees at the entrance of the museum. The castle shelters the museum of the French Revolution since 1984. The collections gather pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings. At 2100 meters, the refuge of La Pra, close to the many clear lakes of the Massif Belledonne, will delight anglers, hikers and families. La Pra is also a wonderful pasture where you can encounter marmots, wild sheep and ibex. The refuge is a stopover on the GR 738 from Chamrousse. The surrounding peaks are often accessible in summer, either on footpaths or "off-track" for those who prefer less frequented areas (Vaudaine, Doménon, Croix de Belledonne sectors), as soon as the snow has disappeared. You are entering a Natura 2000 protected area where swimming in rivers and lakes is strictly prohibited. From the Pré Raymond parking lot, take the forest road, then a path to the left (south-east). A few hairpin bends bring you to an almost level path leading out of the forest. Cross the stream before reaching the dam and Lac du Crozet. Follow the path along the lake and up the Vallon de Mercier to the Col de la Pra. At the col, turn right (south) and descend to the refuge, 5 minutes from the col de la Pra. From Chamrousse, from the parking lot at the foot of the Grande Aiguille, follow the GR de Pays, then pass between the lakes (GR 738). Climb slightly before descending into the combe de l'Echaillon. Turn left onto the path leading to the Oursière waterfalls, then right onto the path leading to Lac David. Climb up to Lac Léama, then on to Lac Longet and Lac Claret. Climb up to the refuge. From the Recoin de Chamrousse, take the GR 738 to Lac Robert. Then follow the same route as the Croix de Chamrousse.

This museum enables visitors to learn more about the industrial heritage of the Romanche valley and local geology. You can also learn more about the development of these activities and the lives of the people involved. The year 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the Romanche museum and the redevelopment of the 1st floor, which will now be dedicated to Charles Albert Keller, an industrialist who developed hydropower in the Romanche valley. The Espace Keller will present a new museography featuring the current models of the museum and those recently restored. Models that Keller presented at universal or international exhibitions. This museum enables visitors to learn more about the industrial heritage of the Romanche valley and local geology. The natural features, along with mineral resources, hydraulic energy and wood reserves, have led to the development of various types of industry over the centuries: hammers in the Middle Ages, followed by blast furnaces, paper mills and then electrometallurgy and electrochemistry. Built in 1837 and modernized in 1909, it is located where first bridge of the city (end of the 11th century) once stood. This original bridge was often destroyed by the Isère's rise in the water level. The bridge was for a long time the only passageway over the Isere river. Until the floods of 1651, the old bridge featured a chapel of Our Lady and an animated wooden sculpture that rang out the hours.

The public is invited to discover the history of mountain soldiers from their creation to the present day. Six thematic areas are presented: History of the Mountain Troops, Conquering and Surviving in the Mountains, Combat, Living in the Mountains and with the Local Population, Culture and Identity, and Alongside the Mountain Troops. Other themes are presented through temporary exhibits. They focus on the relationship between the military and civilian communities. The Museum: As part of the historic Bastille site, Isere's number one tourist attraction, the Mountain Troops Museum, targets a wide public and families in particular. In a privileged setting, at the heart of an old fortress, the museum offers visitors an experience unique in France, which associates man and the mountain. It is on this alliance that the Mountain Troops are based. A visit to the museum comes as a good complement to that of the Bastille site. Overlooked by the Memorial to the Soldiers of the Mountain 200 metres above, this museum also reminds us that the history of the Bastille and of Grenoble itself is inextricably linked to that of the Mountain Troops. Thanks to the audio guide, a multilingual voice will recount the story of this Alpine adventure. The Bastille fort, accessible by the famous "bubbles", is "THE" tourist site of Isère not to be missed: fortified areas, Mountain Troops museum, Contemporary Art Center, Acrobastille, Restaurants, breathtaking panoramas. A major tourist attraction in the region, this 19th century military fort welcomes more than 600,000 visitors each year from all over the world. Accessible by cable car, vehicle, on foot or via ferrata, this fortified complex was built to defend Grenoble from a potential enemy who would have come from the Chartreuse. The second gate of the city to be preserved among the five gates of the 17th century enclosure, the Saint Laurent Gate was built in 1615 and allowed to reach Savoy by the right bank of the Isère in the Grésivaudan valley. Included in the new casemated fortifications built around 1830 by General Haxo and saved from destruction, in the second half of the 19th century, by the construction of the quays of the Isère, which thus accommodated the flow of traffic, the Porte Saint Laurent is still a fine example of 17th century defensive architecture. In this respect, the exterior façade, on the La Tronche side, is the most interesting. One can still observe the machicolation protecting the vaulted passage and the two bretches intended to defend the pedestrian doors. The Saint Laurent gate is also the only one to have kept its heavy wooden doors, dated from the 19th century. Until 1864, the city gates were closed from 10 pm to 7 am. The Saint Laurent gate was open from 5 am. The building was listed in 1931.

The renovated property of painter Ernest Hébert invites visitors to step into the artist's 19th century world and to discover his work through the presentation of his collections. The Hébert museum of La Tronche is a somewhat unusual museum: sheltered behind walls, this two and a half hectare estate has protected itself from the wears of time. The artist's house has held onto the spirit of the place and the intimate character of a family house. The garden, sometimes hidden in the shadows, still holds onto the artist's memories of Italy. The museum, as soon as it opened in 1979, set a double mission for itself: encourage a better knowledge of 19th century art through the artist's collection and to promote contemporary artists, both aspiring and confirmed. The permanent exhibit halls take the visitor on a journey through Ernest Hébert's long artistic career via his works and those of his friends. They illustrate the academics, whose complexity and importance we are rediscovering today and which sheds light on official art. Between the romanticism of Eugene Delacroix and the symbolism of Gustave Moreau, Hébert paves the way for a deeper understanding of 19th century aesthetic movements. The painter Ernest Hébert (1817-1908), after having studied at l'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris and winning the Grand Prix of Rome for historic painting, became famous with "La Malaria" which he presented at the 1850 Salon. A flourishing career was set before him and he shared his time between France and Italy, where he served twice as director of the Academy of France in Rome (1867-1873 and 1885-1890). He very soon became a sought-after portraitist for high Parisian society during the Second Empire and Third Republic, where he frequented upper class salons. Hébert keenly expressed the poetry and secrecy of his feminine models, but it was in Italy that he found the most inspiration, preferring to depict rural scenes imprinted with a melancholic realism. He was responsible for the mosaic on the apse of the Pantheon, inaugurated in 1884. The museum Through a chronological and thematic layout, the museum presents Hébert's work plus the paintings and sculptures of his friends and students. His years of study, his life at the Villa Medicis, his stays in Italy, the two terms he spent as a director, and his Parisian career are presented. The recreated studio has been restored to its original function. The numerous drawings included in the collection are presented in rotation, in the drawing room, set up in one of the house's bedrooms (2nd floor). The house The house recreates the atmosphere that the artist knew with its period furniture and souvenirs, including the restored Laetitia Bonaparte salon. The impressive 17th century frescoes, uncovered during renovation work, depict the ancient history of the house. Numerous testimonies from Hébert's mentors—David d'Angers, Delaroche, his friends from the Académie de France in Rome, Gounod, Regnault,--and his patrons—Théophile Gautier or Princess Mathilde—evoke his career as well as illustrating the artististic wealth of the prolific 19th century. The gardens Set aside from urban life, the museum's park, with its shaded alleyways, rippling brooks, and trellises, has held onto the charm of the artist's "secret garden." In 2004, it was recognized as a "Remarkable Garden," an award recently created by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. This label recognizes the garden's quality and charm, whose richness stems as much from its 17th and 18th century origins as from the modifications made by Ernest Hébert and his wife Gabrielle. The juxtaposition of well groomed, Italian style areas with English garden-type landscapes, the antique elements, and the numerous water basins are reminiscent of the Villa Medicis in Rome and make for an original setting, open freely to the public.

Rehabilitated between 1991 and 1995 and open to the public, the Saint-Eynard fort offers a beautiful view of the Belledonne massif, the Grésivaudan valley and Grenoble. A permanent exhibition on the life of the garrison at the fort awaits you. The technological evolution of artillery during the 19th century forced the military authorities to review the defensive system at the national level. From then on, the defense of the territory was organized around a series of separate forts that crossed each other. Grenoble's defense, also linked to the creation of the new kingdom of Italy in 1861, was ensured by the forts of Saint-Eynard, Bourcet, Quatre-Seigneurs, Montavie, Mûrier and Comboire, to which were added several artillery batteries such as Quichat and Néron. The fort of St Eynard controlled the roads crossing the Chartreuse, thanks to 25 artillery pieces and a garrison of 477 men.

Overlooking Grenoble from the Saint Eynard (1338m), it's like clinging to the two-hundred-year-old stones of this military construction, feet in the air. It's to defy - without feeling dizzy - the snow-capped peaks of the Belledonne mountains in front of you, to feel invincible, guardian of the proud sentinel dominating the city nestled below, and to follow the Isère river coiled within. To feel Corenc, Montbonnot and Meylan small, nestling at the foot of the Chartreuse massif. Ignore the Vercors, a little too far away in the landscape. Finally, in summer and winter alike, soak up the fresh air, stop for a break at the Fort's restaurant, then discover the history of this military heritage, and share a unique viewpoint with the men, soldiers and architects who preceded us here.

Did you know ? Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte, a commune of 1100 inhabitants, hosted the ski jumping events at the 1968 Grenoble Olympic Games. The infrastructures are now disused.

At 2100 meters, the refuge of La Pra, close to the many clear lakes of the Massif Belledonne, will delight anglers, hikers and families. La Pra is also a wonderful pasture where you can encounter marmots, wild sheep and ibex. The refuge is a stopover on the GR 738 from Chamrousse. The surrounding peaks are often accessible in summer, either on footpaths or "off-track" for those who prefer less frequented areas (Vaudaine, Doménon, Croix de Belledonne sectors), as soon as the snow has disappeared. You are entering a Natura 2000 protected area where swimming in rivers and lakes is strictly prohibited. From the Pré Raymond parking lot, take the forest road, then a path to the left (south-east). A few hairpin bends bring you to an almost level path leading out of the forest. Cross the stream before reaching the dam and Lac du Crozet. Follow the path along the lake and up the Vallon de Mercier to the Col de la Pra. At the col, turn right (south) and descend to the refuge, 5 minutes from the col de la Pra. From Chamrousse, from the parking lot at the foot of the Grande Aiguille, follow the GR de Pays, then pass between the lakes (GR 738). Climb slightly before descending into the combe de l'Echaillon. Turn left onto the path leading to the Oursière waterfalls, then right onto the path leading to Lac David. Climb up to Lac Léama, then on to Lac Longet and Lac Claret. Climb up to the refuge. From the Recoin de Chamrousse, take the GR 738 to Lac Robert. Then follow the same route as the Croix de Chamrousse.
