The Maison Léon Blum is the last home of the illustrious statesman, man of letters and architect of many social advances. All the rooms can be visited, from the kitchen to the modest bedrooms and the vast office-library. Léon Blum lived there from 1945, on his return from the Buchenwald camp, until his death in 1950. The day after his death, his wife Jeanne had plans to convert the house into a museum. When she died in 1982, Jeanne Blum bequeathed the house to the commune of Jouy-en-Josas with the mission of maintaining the memory of Léon Blum and developing cultural and artistic activities there. Listed as a Historic Monument, the House became a museum in 1986 and was awarded the label "Maison des Illustres" by the Ministry of Culture in 2012. Since 2017, it has benefited from a new permanent exhibition space that can be used by groups and schools. This space is composed of multiple documentary resources that allow the life and work of Léon Blum to be retraced in all its diversity. As Jeanne wished, the Maison Léon Blum is today a living place of memory and culture.

Located in the charming Château de l’Églantine in Jouy-en-Josas, the Musée de la Toile de Jouy brings to life the legacy of the famous Jouy Manufacture, founded in 1760 by Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf, a visionary entrepreneur and printer. Created in 1977 in the very town where Toile de Jouy was born, the museum celebrates this emblem of French textiles — a painted or printed cotton fabric, also known as *indienne* — while carrying forward the values of its creator: entrepreneurship, humanism, and openness to the world. Since 1991, the museum has been housed in the Château de l’Églantine, bearing witness to the quality and expertise of the Oberkampf manufactory, active from 1760 to 1848. Its collections bring together nearly 10,000 pieces from the 18th century to today: painted and printed fabrics, sample books, drawings, gouaches, paintings, costumes, furniture, bed linens, as well as various tools and mechanisms linked to printing techniques. The production of Jouy-en-Josas is represented, alongside other French centers (Normandy, Alsace, Provence) and foreign ones (Great Britain, Italy). In 2022, the Musée de la Toile de Jouy inaugurated its new historical exhibition spaces dedicated to the 18th and 19th centuries. This immersive journey into the Oberkampf manufactory (1760–1843) and its 30,000 printed motifs invites visitors to step into interiors inspired by the Oberkampf family — a bedroom, a study, and a music room — and discover how printed textiles were used in furnishings. To complement the visit, an interactive digital installation familiarizes visitors with this remarkable textile heritage. The permanent collections highlight the history, printing techniques, and use of Toile de Jouy in both clothing and interior decoration. With the support of the Friends of the Musée de la Toile de Jouy, the museum regularly acquires new pieces — textiles, objects, costumes — from both the time of Oberkampf and contemporary creators. Many artists, publishers, and designers draw inspiration from Toile de Jouy to create their collections, contributing to the influence of this heritage. The permanent exhibition showcases the incredible creativity of the era’s designers through floral, geometric, and figurative motifs, while also presenting the evolution of printing techniques: wooden blocks, copperplates, and copper rollers. Reconstructions featuring pieces from the French National Furniture Collection evoke Oberkampf’s private world as a true visionary. ### Special Offer 🎟️ Enjoy **15% off all tickets** with the *Pass Malin*! How were pictures taken in 1850, during the First World War or at the end of the 20th century? How were images disseminated at a time when we did not know yet how to reproduce them in books and newspapers? How did chemistry make them appear in the darkness of the laboratory, long before computers, printers and digital networks are invented? Why did we move from a complex craft to a flourishing industry and a universal practice? What is the use of billions of photos produced, reproduced, classified, preserved and sometimes forgotten or discarded? Begin to answer these questions, and many others, by discovering surprising images, mysterious objects, amusing commercials... thanks to the museum, we try to understand our "civilization of the image", to form our critical eye, to discover the little stories that make up the great History of the image.

The wooded park of the 19th century is arranged along a canal and overlooks a 17th century French garden and an orangery. At the heart of the estate, the Nymphée: a room decorated with rockeries and shells of the late 17th century. The Nymphée is listed as a Historical Monument since March 22, 1983 and is one of the rare examples still existing of this type of decor, very popular under Louis XIV. Called nymphaeum, from the name of the Greek deities of the rivers, woods and mountains, it is a decor very fashionable at the time, as are the shells collections in the "cabinets of curiosity". Inspired by Antiquity and revived under the Italian Renaissance, the Nymphée intends to represent the mystery of creation, before becoming an inevitable part of gardens and buildings decoration, a cool place conducive to relaxation. The vaulted room construction dates from 1674 to 1692, date of the estate purchase by Mrs. Despinville. The room is then enriched with shells and rockery from older sets coming from a destroyed house that was deep in the park.
