Departing from Parthenay, you set off on a 10.5 km loop of medium difficulty. The route takes you along the banks of the River Thouet, with crossings via footbridges. You'll explore Parthenay's medieval town center, with its half-timbered houses and numerous staircases to give your legs a workout! This loop combines sport and sightseeing for a great discovery experience!

Departing from Parthenay, you set off on a 49 km black difficulty route. There are few technical sections, but the difficulty lies in the number of kilometers you have to cover, giving you the chance to work on your endurance. At the start of the course, you'll find many paved sections on secondary roads, before moving on to wide paths where you can develop your stride. The final stretch is made up of small singles through the fields, before you reach Parthenay via the Voie Verte and enjoy a superb view of the town.

On this route, you'll encounter few major technical difficulties, as you'll be riding almost entirely on paths ranging from single-track to wide paths. You'll go as far as La Trébesse, a pretty hamlet on the banks of the Thouet, which you'll cross several times. On the way back to Parthenay, you'll cross the Rézard ford and discover the magnificent Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre de Parthenay-le-Vieux. An excellent route for intermediate runners.

Parthenay, with its historic quarter of 100 timber-framed houses - the Rue de la Vau Saint-Jacques is the longest medieval street in Europe - takes the cyclist back to the time of the Seigneurs. Stroll along its winding lanes to enjoy magnificent panoramic views. Climb to the top of the flamboyant Porte Saint-Jacques to admire the rolling green countryside typical of the Gâtine region. Before heading off along the voie verte towards Fenery and Bressuire, the old railway station is the ideal place to picnic, refresh yourself or read a book left at your disposal - Gare de Clessé: former railway station being renovated to welcome tourists (restaurants, accommodation...). - Terves: donkey farm - La Chapelle-Saint-Laurent : Basilique Notre-Dame de Pitié - Bressuire: Notre-Dame church and its 56-meter high bell tower

Departing from Parthenay, this 5.5km loop will give you the chance to discover trail running on a variety of paths, from single-track to dirt roads, wide paths, up and down stairs and small steep sections in town. In addition to discovering the practice of trail running, this route alternates between paths along the Thouet river and passages through the town, allowing you to explore Parthenay's medieval quarter, with its timber-framed houses, fortified gates and ramparts. Parthenay: Little Carcassonne of the West will hold no secrets for you!

This 3.5 km route in the heart of the town of Parthenay invites you to discover the emblematic sculptures of the town and their history. Please note that people with reduced mobility must be accompanied to take the paths that lead to the discovery of certain statues.

A 10.5 km route in the commune of Azay-sur-Thouet. This itinerary will lead you to the village of Trébesse, passing through Pisseloube and the wash house.

This circuit can be started in several places. However, an existing parking area at the place called Monplaisir allows you to start on the Voie Verte, a pedestrian axis on the old railroad that linked Parthenay to Bressuire. After crossing the Bois du Theil and seeing some views of the surrounding fields, exit at the level crossing of the Parthenay-Fénery road at a place called Le Piogé. You then go along the property of Theil with some views on the castle or the ponds. As you pass by, you will see buildings from the end of the 19th century at Sainte-Anne and Notre-Dame. From La Timarière, a small wild and shaded path between woods and meadows brings us back to the starting point.

In Châtillon-sur-Thouet, park on the car park of the greenway. A notice board will show you the starting point. Then follow the wooden markers with a bicycle and light green directional arrows. Without any particular indications, continue on your way. Discover the charm of the Gâtine and the Thouet valley: hedged farmland, waterways and scattered settlements.

The gîte is located in the heart of the medieval quarter. On the first floor, there is a garage for bicycles and strollers, but no cars. The gîte comprises an open-plan space on the second floor, divided into a living room, kitchen and dining area with a medieval fireplace. This floor opens onto a courtyard with garden furniture. The second floor comprises the master bedroom with double bed (140 cm x 190 cm) overlooking the medieval street, a second bedroom with two single beds (90 cm x 190 cm), a study, toilet and shower. The interior of the gîte is non-smoking. Down the street, you'll find a bar-grocer's store 50 meters away, as well as other bars and restaurants 200 meters away, near the Saint-Jacques tower and the Thouet river. Imposing 14th century castle surrounded by a moat with a working drawbridge, loopholes, parapet walk, granite fireplaces, and situated in a quiet and rustic park with lots of charm. The magnificent rooms are arranged in accordance with their medieval setting. Access is via a spiral staircase. 5 majestic and spacious bedrooms (100 m2), with private bathroom or shower and wc: Seigneuriale room - double canopy bed and tapestry; Chevalier room - partitioned double bed and heraldic decorations; Sentinel room - large double canopy bed, kitchenette and spectacular views. Very little modified since the 12th century, the parish church of Saint-Saturnin is in the style of Romanesque buildings in Gâtine. With an elongated plan, it consists of a flat chevet choir, lit by a large Gothic bay, and a single nave. The whole is vaulted with a broken barrel vault, with the exception of the bay under the bell tower, which is covered with a dome on trunks. The latter supports an octagonal bell tower reminiscent of those of Parthenay-le-Vieux, Secondigny, Fenioux or Allonne. The western portal is protected by a "ballet" porch, rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century. At that time, the church was subject to minor alterations: repair of the vault, enlargement of the choir bay and drilling of the rose window.

To the south, the territory of the commune is limited by the Viette, which was described as a torrent in 1092. This river, which rises between Saint-Pardoux and La Boissière, flows into the Thouet at Parthenay-le-Vieux. In a green and bucolic setting, this ford is a remarkable example of a small hydraulic heritage. Built in stone, it allows you to cross the river. It is made up of large stone slabs supported by blocks placed in the water. It thus forms a small bridge winding between the trees.

One of the most renowned examples of Roman architecture in the Poitou region, the Saint-Pierre church was classified as a historic monument in the 19th century. A major edifice in Roman Poitou, it is distinguished by its architectural unity and harmonious proportions. Its originality is reinforced by its octogonal bell tower, its intricately structured screenlike facade and its half-barrel vaults covering its collateral naves. The Saint-Pierre church is said to have been built by monks from Auvergne belonging to the Chaise-Dieu abbey. While its facade is reminiscent of Poitou, its arching may be explained by its one-time ties with La Chaise-Dieu.

An idea for a stroll in Parthenay: the discovery of the Old wash house From the rue Grande, a small path joins the banks of the Thouet after about thirty meters. You can see the trays on which the washerwomen beat their cloths. These trays were raised according to the water level, by means of a system of gears located at one end of the building. Come and enjoy this quiet, peaceful place and admire this testimony of ancient times.

Located near the Parthenay campsite, the Base des Loisirs is a pleasant place to stroll and relax, for young and old alike. Ideal for a stopover or a few hours' rest. There's a lake, fishing access, children's play area, wooden bowls and petanque courts and a skateboard track. It's crossed by a number of cycle routes, including the Francette bike trail and the Thouet valley. Close to vélo gâtine, which sells and repairs bicycles of all types, as well as a pharmacy, bakery, Hyper u and the Gatinéo aquatic center...

Located near the Parthenay campgrounds, the leisure site is an excellent place for strolling and relaxation: 3 ping pong tables, a 200-meter 'health path', mile-long jogging… Canoe and kayak area available afternoons only (mandatory safety vest and equipment not provided); fishing is permitted only in the morning (open to card-carrying fishermen), picnic table. Built in the middle of the 11th century, this church belonged to the Saint-Paul priory which depended on the Benedictines of the Cormery abbey. Only the façade is well preserved (the nave was burnt down in 1568 and the chevet collapsed in 1747). It has a portal surmounted by two round arches, a central window with columns and capitals decorated with snakes, and a cornice with modillions representative of the Romanesque bestiary.

Also known as the Chapel of the Béchereaux, this building was built in the 15th century in the heart of the cemetery of the Faubourg Saint-Paul. The walls present a large number of reused tombstones. The construction is very simple: a single nave with a flat chevet, whose ribbed vaults have disappeared. Enlarged in the 17th century, this chapel bears witness to the importance of the cult of the Rosary (vowed to the Virgin) in the region at that time.
