The Landing of Provence

The Landing of Provence

After the Armistice of June 1940, defeated, France collaborates with the Third Reich. Following the Allied landing in North Africa and the scuttling of the French fleet in the port of Toulon, in November 1942, General de GAULLE in 1943 tasked General GIRAUD, to reorganize in North Africa, a French army with American material support. The Allies imagine to fight the occupation troops by the North (Operation OVERLORD in Normandy) and the South (Operation DRAGOON in Provence). The coast of the Moors (la côte des Maures) appears then as the only place likely to escape the coastal batteries of the Toulon area. Two months after the landing of Normandy on the 6th of June of 1944, the Allies get the green light. On the night of August 14 to 15 in 1944, the African commandos, the first French soldiers on the soil of Provence, stormed Cape Negro, the naval assault group, the Esquirol point, the Canadians and American rangers the Golden Islands. American parachutists are dropped in the plain of Muy. On the morning of August 15th, American divisions land at Cavalaire; for eight days, those of the Army of Africa land in a continuous flow on the beaches of Cavalaire, Dramont, Nartelle to liberate the occupied towns and villages in Var. Go back in time and discover the town’s liberation’s highlights of Le Lavandou and Collobrières on August 15, 1944, Pierrefeu du Var and Bormes les Mimosas on the 16th, La Londe les Maures and Cuers on the 17th.

La Font des Pères

La Font des Pères

Nestling on a hill surrounded by a 14-hectare vineyard, the unique La Font des Pères welcomes you in style, in a choice setting with stunning views over Mount Caume and the Sainte Baume mountains. The history of Domaine de la Font des Pères dates back to the 13th century, when the Observantine monks adopted this land on an exceptional site, rich in natural springs. The first vines appeared at this time, thanks to the work of the monks, who, keen agronomists and aware of the richness of this hillside, planted numerous food crops, including vines. The place then took the name of its natural resource, the springs (Font), associated with those who exploited them (the fathers). The Domaine de la Font des Pères in Le Beausset is surrounded by vines clinging to steep terraces. The wines are produced in the Bandol, Côtes de Provence and IGP Mont-Caume appellations, using organic farming methods. The estate offers tours and tastings, as well as picnics in the vineyards, which can be booked directly on the website. In addition to wine production, the estate also has a year-round restaurant: La Ferme Auberge, run by Chef Raphaël Linossier, who draws inspiration from the estate's vegetable garden to offer sophisticated, seasonal cuisine. In summer, the Bistrot opens its terrace with homemade sweet and savoury tapas. On-site accommodation enables visitors to enjoy this privileged location over several days, and the various meeting and reception rooms make it an ideal venue for both professional and private events. You can also enjoy Domaine de La Font des Pères wines in the restaurant Le Comptoir de la Font des Pères in Sanary-sur-Mer.

Oenothèque de Bandol

Sale of AOC Bandol Wines at the shop & on line - Advice - Tasting Welcome by our winegrowers. Exhibitions. All the Bandol Wines producers can be checked on our website, it is also possible to book online. Our History Bandol was one of the first vineyards to be granted the AOC status by the Institut National des Appellations d’Origine (INAO) in 1941, soon after it was created. From then on, the Bandol wine growers have constantly been striving for quality. In this frame of mind, they regularly revise the founding decree of 1941 to improve it. Proud of their unanimity of views and fortified by their diversity, they are heirs to a constantly evolving patrimony. Bandol wines are the fruit of men’s dedication and scrupulous respect for the appellation and terroir. Each of them bears the imprint of the wine grower who made it and reflects his personality. To understand the true nature of Bandol wines, one needs to go and meet them one by one. Discover Bandol Wines Red, the reference Bandol is definitely red. It is mainly made from Mourvèdre, the “King Grape” of the appellation. Mourvèdre is the chief grape variety in the blend (50% to 95%). It is harmoniously combined with Grenache and Cinsault, the former bringing generosity to the wine, the latter giving it refinement. Powerful, with natural distinction and great character, Bandol red wines, however diverse they may be, all have in common the specific character of Mourvèdre. After a minimum of 18 months’ ageing in wood, the tannic character of Mourvèdre will endow it with a complex, ample and elegant structure. It delivers some part of its enormous potential at every stage of its evolution. To those who can bide their time, a 10, 20 or 25-year-old Bandol will bring all kinds of delight. White, so seductive To penetrate the secret of Bandol, one must also taste its white wines. The wine growers take delight in surprising wine lovers with this type of wine, produced in very low quantities. Clairette, Bourboulenc and Ugni Blanc are the base of the varietal mix. Made from grapes often growing on hillsides facing north, invigorated by the sea breeze that heightens their freshness, Bandol whites have a clean attack followed by a complex harmony of aromas (white flowers, citrus fruits, exotic fruits or fruits from the orchard…). Rosé for gastronomy and conviviality Bandol rosés are enchanting. Their roundness and generosity make them different from other rosé wines. Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault combine to give, by direct pressing, a well-built, refined, pale-coloured wine with delicate salmon hues. With all the subtle shades that enhance their color, they voluptuously express the specificity of their terroir. They are to be drunk in their youth and their great freshness seduces; however, the presence of Mourvèdre brings out their typicity and encourages laying them down, as is the rule for red wines. Long-lived rosés acquire exceptional temperament and flavours. They are served at the most renowned tables. Such wines arouse enthusiasm. Their complexity allows a great variety in food pairings. "Le Gros Cerveau" forest massif

"Le Gros Cerveau" forest massif

The "Big Brain" comes from the Provençal "Lou Gro Cervo", which means "the Big Stag", a legendary creature that would have lived in this massif in the 18th century. he Gros Cerveau massif, classified as a natural area of ecological, faunal and floristic interest, culminates at an altitude of 446 metres. It offers breathtaking views over the Mediterranean, from the Gien peninsula to the islands off Marseille, via the splendid Sanary Bay. The massif, accessible by car (D2020) depending on the period, is used by many walkers, hikers (marked trails + GR51), joggers or climbers (10 sport climbing sectors). On the ridge, two defensive fortifications built between 1890 and 1900 are still standing: the Pointe structure and the Gros Cerveau fort. At the bend in the paths, it is not uncommon to come across Rove goats, recognisable by their triangular and twisted horns. These goats accompanied the transhumance of the sheep and in particular provided their milk to the shepherds and the lambs that their mothers could not feed. They are still of great help today, particularly in clearing and maintaining inaccessible areas, which need to be cleared to fight fires. 2 walking circuits to discover: The Belvedere path : From valleys to balconies through the Gros Cerveau fort and the La Pointe fort.
