The clear waters of the Bonnan wind their way through a succession of mown meadows, full of a myriad of butterflies. A real explosion of species and colours in the heart of a natural area. Species diversity : This part of the Bonnan valley is made up of a succession of meadows, formerly used by sheep, now mown. This practice is conducive to the development of a wide variety of flowers, particularly orchids, which are much appreciated by pollinators. The contact between the dry hillsides and the wetlands that accompany the Bonnan contributes further to making this valley one of the richest in the Tarn in terms of species diversity. A particular wetland formation with tall herbs develops on a plot of land at the edge of the path: the hemp-leaf orchid can be seen here, as well as the tall orchid, an orchid of wetlands. From the different colours of the flowers and butterflies, the smell of the cut grass to the sound of the deer bellowing in the valley, the senses are always awake here.

The small valley of Bonnan is towered over by the sheer faces of limestone cliffs. Over this 11km route, you will discover a landscape which alternates between green meadows, arid, barren hillsides and the grassy expanses and twisted oaks of the Caussenard plateau. A tuff waterfall: In karstic regions, infiltration water causes the formation of dolines (closed depressions in the relief) and other avens by dissolving the limestone. Most of the time, they reappear in the form of Vaucluse springs. A similar phenomenon exists in the Bonnan valley in the form of a petrified waterfall. The event occurs during periods of high water. The water pours down in a tuff cascade (non-homogeneous porous rock, often powdery, in this case of sedimentary origin) over a height of about forty metres to cover the sandstone (stable mixture of rock and clay). A natural well collects them. Once underground, they resurface as a Vaucluse fountain at Gourp de Fénérols.

An ideal choice for a 10 km route of medium difficulty. This hike offers magnificent views of the Cérou and Aveyron valleys at various points along the way. Natural meadows, oak forests and ancient vineyards make up a varied landscape characteristic of this area on the fringes of Bas Rouergue and Grésigne. The little church of Saint-Projet de Larroque (12th-15th centuries), on the banks of the Aveyron, is a very pleasant place to stop: not only does it offer a welcoming environment, but it is striking for its sober beauty and the traces of its distant past. Take a diversion to visit the pretty village of Milhars, which boasts a charming rural heritage (dovecotes, ovens, wash-houses, etc.). The street plan is known as a ‘spiral’ because of the tightly-packed streets that wind their way up to the castle, and the itinerary takes you past rivers, fields and meadows, crossing streams, all the way to the Vère-Grésigne leisure centre.

High place of Catharism located in the heart of the Gorges de l'Aveyron, the Château de Penne is a flagship of 13th century military architecture, whose restoration works allow the preservation and the medieval activities to enhance it. Visitors can relive the fascinating history of the site and life in the Middle Ages thanks to an interpretation trail with illustrated panels, costumed tours, events and a medieval building site. Since September 2023, a 30-minute loop on the rocky knolls has been open to site visitors only. This landscaped path completes the visit to the fortress in the heart of the natural Aveyron gorges. The path invites you to take a stroll under the oak trees to admire new views over the valley and the surrounding walls discovered during the archaeological digs. There are picnic tables and benches all along the route (picnics are allowed, but bring your own bins as there are none on the route). Walking shoes strongly recommended. Last access to the trail 1 hour before the site closes. Children under the supervision of accompanying adults.

The MIRABILIA MUSEUM collection can be viewed by prior arrangement, with a guided tour by Pierre Malrieu. MIRABILIA MUSEUM is a cultural association, a place where Pierre Malrieu presents his private collection (Art, Archaeology, Local History...) illustrated by conferences, presentations of rare texts, exhibitions... It's also a place for experimentation, highlighting an artist, a profession, a passion, a journey, an original creation, a warm welcome for local initiatives... From September to June, we programme a series of events focusing on poetic expression, lectures on archaeology, discoveries by local artists and proposals from members. There are two prices for attending an event: a member price and a public price, subject to availability (maximum capacity 30 people).

The national forest of Grésigne is around 9000 acres of pure liberty. It’s Europe’s biggest forest of sessile oak and a place that is both wild and unique. A rich variety of wildlife lives here and you will often see stags, deer, otters, weasels and more than a hundred different varieties of nesting birds. The Grésigne provided firewood and some carpentry, wood for the staves used in the cooperage for Gaillac wine, charcoal until the 1950s and wood for the furnaces of the Grésigne glassmakers, the last of whom died out in 1850. The rationally exploited and maintained forest is today a place for big game hunting. The highest point (Montoulieu, 480m) of the primary era, made of sandstone, gave its name to the Grésigne forest. The surrounding plateaus are from the Jurassic period (secondary era) and are composed of limestone. The Romans having occupied the Grésigne, there remain oppida (earthen mounds used for defense), vestiges of camps and a Roman road on the territory of Puycelsi. A protected nature with an exceptional fauna and flora, an enchanting place where reigns the mystery of a great secret, the glassmakers of Grésigne.

Following in the footprints of Saint James of Compostela (from Conques to Toulouse), explore Tarn on horseback, by bike or go for a swim a stone’s throw away from the trail. A shaded table is set in a green corner, providing a cool, tranquil place to relax or share a meal al fresco. Directly opposite, another table is located in the square near the town hall, ideal for enjoying the village atmosphere while still being close to amenities. These two locations offer visitors a variety of options for sitting down and enjoying the surroundings.

This gothic bridge was built in the 13th century, along the primitive road witch led toward Villefranche de Rouergue. It allowed merchants and pilgrims to cross the Aveyron river in all seasons, on their way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.

In a medieval building, classified as a historical monument, come and discover the history of Cordes-sur-Ciel, from prehistory to modern day, its surroundings, as well as the issues and specific features behind its creation in 1222. Managed by the association "Société des Amis du Vieux Cordes" (1904), the "Musée de France Charles Portal" is a museum of art, history and heritage in the "Pays Cordais". With a wealth of unique exhibits (to date), it explains medieval defensive architecture and its history from prehistory to the present day. The videos on display (Water in Cordes, The Well, the Ferrat Book, "The Embroiderer's Son", The Fate of the Apostles, etc.), the three-storey exhibition rooms, and the view from the terrace are all milestones in the history and legends of Cordoa.

This building, known as ‘La Gaudane’ was built in 1881 and it housed the first embroidery factory also known as ‘La Fabrique’ (The Factory). On the very site of what was the cradle of Cordese embroidery at the beginning of the industrial era, the only Cordese embroidery loom still in working order is preserved. At the same time, historical documents, letters, machines and commentaries come together to shed light on this activity in the life of Cordoba. Guided tour with explanation of how the loom works. Les Rougemonts holiday cottage, situated in the oldest farm building on the site, dates from 1861 (90m²). It is the ideal place to stay in Ségala, Tarn for a wonderful holiday with family or friends, as it accommodates 4 to 5 people (two bedrooms). Imagine the activity in the living room a few decades ago, when you see the original cement tiles. But for your comfort, you'll find all the contemporary equipment you need to cook to your heart's content and a cosy living room to relax in. On the night side, there's a bedroom with blue/green tones and the morning sun to gently wake you up. The other bedroom, with its linen drapes, is more spacious and can accommodate 3 people.
