Perhaps mistakenly, this hike is called the Laudon circuit. Indeed, according to the directional panels, we start at Saint-Jorioz and head for Saint-Eustache, initially following the Laudon river, a tributary of Lake Annecy. Hiking itinerary established in cooperation with the Tourist Information Office and, for the signage, the councils of the “département” and Greater Annecy. This medium-distance circuit might be rather long for children, but offers beautiful views over the mountains and some glimpses of the lake. It is a gentle mix of countryside, forest, rural landscape and a history that is sometimes tragic. We start at Saint-Jorioz church where the little supermarket opposite is handy for your picnic needs. Unfortunately, the only café on the route has closed its doors. You can fill your flask with fresh water at Saint-Eustache.

On this itinerary you’ll find the little hamlet of Patérier, a diversity of scenery with views over the lake, and a certain bucolic serenity. We also propose a mini nature workshop for you to enjoy back home! Practical advice: - An easy walk accessible to all and at any time of year, although care should be taken after rainy weather as the paths can remain slippery for a while. - Depart from Saint-Jorioz church (Bus route 15 a-B and Y51 - bus stop Mairie if arriving from Annecy, or Gendarmerie if arriving from Doussard, then walk to the church). During the hunting season the best days for a peaceful walk are Wednesdays and Fridays.

An exploration of the Marais de l’Enfer (marshes of hell) This path across the marshes and on the banks of the lake is accessible only on foot. It offers beautiful views over the reed beds and the lake as well as the surrounding mountains. Besides water and a snack, take a pair of binoculars if you enjoy birdwatching.

The Semnoz Alpine Garden is a 1,500 m high portion of alpine pasture that has not been grazed for more than 50 years to preserve the typical flora of the alpine meadows. This area allows you to discover or revise the typical botany of the Alpine meadows. Each summer, more than 100 plant species are identified, labelled and highlighted.Trails are marked and autonomous games are installed on the site, enough to delight young and old. The Alpine Garden is open every day in summer time. Permanences are also held every Wednesday by an FNE74 employee to ensure the maintenance of the Alpine Garden and welcome nature lovers! In 2019 a comparative study on the floristic diversity between the Semnoz Alpine Garden and the meadows grazed nearby was carried out. The results indicate there is a significant gap in floristic diversity and plant covering between the scarcely maintained Alpine meadow and the regularly pastured one. Indeed, there were only 24 different floristic species identified on the grazed meadow while there were 62 on the Alpine Garden. Moreover, in the Alpine Garden 12 species represent more than 50% of the plant covering, compared to only 3 species in the grazed meadow.

Inhabited by the same family since the 11th century and built between the 11th and 19th centuries, it still contains its rich variety of furniture and period decoration. Nestled on a rocky outcrop, it offers a sublime view of the lake and the landscape. In the 12th century, the castle had only three high square towers linked by sentry walks and a large courtyard where the villagers found refuge in times of trouble.
