Follow the meanders of the Rhone River and discover the panoramic view from the St Romain Chapel, at the heart of the Joncieux vineyard. Walk your way back through the alluvial plain of Yenne. Difficulty : medium. Duration : 4:30 hours. Starts from Yenne. Discover the Chapelle Saint Romain, located in the commune of Jongieux near an orientation table. You can also admire the Jongieux vineyards, the Crus de Jongieux and Marestel wine-growing site, which has been nationally classified for its landscape quality since 2010. The Lagneux marsh and chapel are also worth a visit. Medium difficulty. The Butte Saint-Romain: A site in the commune of Jongieux, the Butte Saint Romain, which was a surveillance post on the Rhône for the Gauls, and its plateau are a major archaeological site. Finds at St-Romain point to the existence of a Gallo-Roman building from the early Christian era, later replaced by a Christian chapel from the Middle Ages (destroyed during the Revolution). In 1938, a 4th-century stele dedicated to the Gallic god Sylvanus was discovered. It bears a Christian inscription (504) on the reverse, the oldest in Savoie. This stele has been placed in the Musée Lapidaire in Aix-les-Bains. A committee founded in 1990 is behind the construction of the new chapel.

This day hike promises many discoveries on the slopes of Mont Tournier! Overlooking the Rhône or the green valleys, your walk is punctuated by historical, natural and landscape nuggets. As you climb to Mont Tournier, take in the breathtaking views from the belvederes overlooking the Rhône. This forested mountain also holds many secrets from the past. Step into the shoes of the knights who watched over the Rhone from the ancient lookout posts. Can you spot the cave in the forest where the first settlers lived? On the gently sloping return journey, the scenery opens out onto lush green countryside dotted with tiered villages overlooking the Yenne plain. But be careful! In the Glaize woods, the route crosses private property. The owner graciously authorizes your passage. We therefore ask you to respect the following rules: do not stray from the marked path, do not make fires, do not leave garbage, do not camp, and do not harm the fauna, flora, livestock or crops.

The circuit climbs gently through the village of Novalaise to the Col de la Crusille, then onto the steeper switchbacks to the Col de la Lattaz. The gradient eases through the forest of Mont Tournier. Beautiful descent through Yenne on the way back.

This link provides a two-way connection between Yenne and Lac du Bourget, passing from one side of the Montagne de l'épine to the other, without the need for difficult ascents, thanks to the dedicated gallery of the Tunnel du Chat. This link between the two sides of the Montagne de l'Epine allows you to discover two different sides of the mountain via the tunnel du Chat. On the Yenne side, you'll travel through the landscapes of the Billième vineyards, on shared roads and a section of greenway. On the Bourget-du-lac side, coming from Chambéry or Aix-les-Bains on the V63, you'll skirt the lake and its harbour, and enjoy the breathtaking panorama of Lac du Bourget. The climb up to Bourdeau is not very long, but has some steep gradients.

A family-run business for 4 generations, Caveau Quinard, whose vines are located on the high banks of the Rhône Valley in Massignieu-de-Rives, close to the ViaRhôna, has been organically farmed since 2010. The Quinard estate comprises 12.5 hectares of vines. The vineyards are farmed organically. The Quinard estate is also committed to providing a warm welcome: a smile is the order of the day, tastings of the estate's wines are offered, and numerous tourist brochures (in French and Dutch) are available for customers. Julien Quinard made the commitment to organic farming in 2009, the year in which he converted the entire vineyard to organic methods. No synthetic products (herbicides, insecticides) or chemical fertilisers are used. The vines are treated only with minerals and plants in order to produce the healthiest grapes possible. The vinification process is traditional, with no yeast added. This means more manual work (ploughing one traille out of 2, leaving the other as grass), which makes it easier for the equipment to pass through. Saint Jean-Baptiste’s Cathedral was classified as a historic monument in 1906. The building you see today dates mainly from the 19th century but its northern portal is from the 12th century and its apse dates from the 15th century. Historically Belley was the capital and ecclesiastical centre of Bugey. There has been a cathedral in the town since the year 722. The first major rebuilding project of the cathedral took place during the 12th century. This was followed in 1440 by the total reconstruction of the building which only left the northern doorway from the 12th century design intact. The cathedral was extensively damaged during the French Revolution when all of its relics were destroyed along with its bells. Worse was to follow in 1822 when an earthquake inflicted even more damage on building. After this near catastrophic event the Bishop of Belley decided to once again rebuild the cathedral. Architect Antoine Chenavard designed a building in the gothic style, work commenced in 1835 and finished in 1851. This impressive building can be viewed today and houses several works of religious art including a statue of the Virgin Mary by Joseph Chinard.

Belley, historic and religious capital of Bugey . A bishopric since the 6th century, Belley has left its religious mark on the whole of Bugey: cathedral, churches, chapels.... In Gallo-Roman times, Belley was one of the region's most important towns, benefiting from its position as a crossroads on the road linking Lyon and Geneva. Recent excavations have uncovered a vast spa complex. The town's emblem is the she-wolf, the etymology of Belley referring to Bellone, the Roman goddess of war, represented by this animal. Don't miss the bronze she-wolf in the Grande Rue, sculpted by Colette Sonzogni. 1077: Bugey is ceded by the Holy Roman Empire to the House of Savoy. After the Treaty of Lyon in 1601, marking the attachment of Bugey to France, Belley became the seat of the Baillage and was administratively attached to the province of Burgundy. To admire: the inner courtyard of the Tourist Office, former seat of the Baillage. St Jean Baptiste Cathedral: Classified as a historic monument, Belley's neo-Gothic Cathédrale St Jean-Baptiste was built on the site of the 12th-century cathedral, of which only traces remain on the north portal. For the most part, it dates from the 19th century. Palais épiscopal and Parc Jean-Pierre Camus: Listed as a historic monument since 1932, the former 18th-century bishop's palace was bought by the town in 1978 and now houses the municipal library, the Société Savante Le Bugey, and serves as an exhibition and reception hall. The church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption, built in the Romanesque style, has been a listed monument since April 6, 1987. Come and discover its special features. The chapel overlooks the Rhone River and the town of Yenne. Built in the 19th century, it is dedicated to the Virgin. Its monumental statue, sculpted by J. Fabisch is a replica of the Virgin on the chapel's steeple of Fourvière, in Lyon. Yenne village.

The Chapel of Lagneux features 15th century architectural details. Renovated in 2007 and 2008, it got its little steeple and ironwork elements back, which had been melted down for war requirements. It shelters a wooden pieta that has also been renovated. Yenne village.

The old Fontaine tile factory operated from 1860 to 1900. Two other tile factories were also in operation in the commune of La Balme. Their activity ceased around 1914. The railway then made it possible to transport less heavy mechanical tiles.

Situated in the heart of the Jongieux-Marestel winegrowing site, at the foot of the chapel that bears its name, this picnic stop features an orientation table offering a breathtaking view. The St Romain Chapel is located in Jongieux-le-Haut, on a hill, close to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the plainof Rhone and the vineyard. Recent building dating from 1995, it was made on the initiative of a villagers' association created in 1989. Joncieux village.

A vineyard covering 250 hectares, largely huddled around the village of Joncieux, situated between the river Rhône and the Mont de la Charvaz. It stretches between the village of Billième, Joncieux, Lucey, St Jean de Chevelu and Yenne.

Whether arriving from the direction of Massigneux-de-Rives, from Yenne or from the road leading out of the tunnel du Chat, it is hard not to be impressed by the amazing formation of this site, with its steep limestone slopes plunging from the peaks of Charvaz and Mont Turioz
