This 16-kilometre "Vélo pour tous" route takes in Neuf-Brisach, the perfect city designed by Vauban and a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as Biesheim and Kunheim, peaceful villages on the Rhine Paine. Between floodplains and canals bordered by lush forests, the relatively shady route presents no particular difficulties, apart from a few slight climbs to cross a few bridges. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to discover a number of points of interest (MAUSA Street Art Museum and Vauban Museum in Neuf-Brisach, Gallo-Roman Museum in Biesheim, tourist railroad and boat on the Rhine, Kunheim boat stop...). As a bonus, we suggest you take a tour of the fortified city walls (2.4 kilometers) to get the full measure of this impregnable fortress (beware of the steep descent and ascent). Created in partnership between the Alsace à Vélo collective, the Colibrius company and the Alsace Rhin Brisach Tourist Office, this loop has been tested and approved with adapted bicycles. Explore the twin towns of Breisach (the upper town and Cathedral) and Neuf-Brisach (with its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Vauban fortifications), which share the same history. The tour will take you to the wine villages around Breisach and Tuniberg, and the picturesque sites around Neuf-Brisach.

This bicycle tour, which harmoniously mixes together history and nature, will bring you through 2 incredible sites packed full of history: the fortifications of Neuf-Brisach built by Vauban, listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO since 2008 and the Museum of Victor Schoelcher, who was a fervent anti- slavery campaigner and defender of human rights. These two locations are linked together by the Canal Rhône au Rhin, which owns a very dynamic flora and fauna.

On this route you will have the opportunity to ride along the Rhone-Rhine canal through the forest, you will also pass through different villages and you will be able to stop at the restaurant "La Coccinelle", one of the main points of attraction of this route.

This discovery tour leads you through two countries and two different cultures, but two cities bound by the history of the 17th and 18th century. You will cross the Rhine, a natural border that was primarily a military border back in the days. On the way back, you have the choice between two paths.

On this short course, you will have the opportunity to walk along the "Rhône au Rhin" canal through the forest. Ideally to do with the family, it will also allow you to pass through different villages, and to stop at tables at pic Nic ...

This trail, dotted with canals and tranquil villages, will take you on a discovery tour of the rich historical and military cross-border heritage and the Grand Ried Plain of Alsace with its landscape of floodable meadows and lush woodland plant life. Starting from Kunheim, you ride along the canal southwards through the town of Biesheim, with its many museums, and then stop off at Neuf-Brisach, a fortress town listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You then cross over the Rhine to explore Breisach, a town with a rich cultural heritage, and meander through the winegrowing village of Burckheim. Back in France, you cycle near Marckolsheim and the Maginot Line Memorial. You return to your starting point via several villages on the Rhine Plain.

The Colmar canal was inaugurated in 1864. It was built under the pressure of the industrialists who had suff ered a set-back when the original path of the Rhône-Rhine canal was diverted by the Army’s Corps of Engineers to take in the citadel of Neuf-Brisach. Today, it is used for leisure activities and, after crossing the river Ill, ends its journey in the charming river port of Colmar. Along the Colmar Canal, you’ll be spoilt by incredibly quaint and rustic décor! As of Artzenheim, and if your legs will let you, you can take the Rhine Véloroute (EV15) up until Andermatt in Switzerland or until Rotterdam in Nederland!

The RouteFrom Huningue to Lauterbourg - EuroVelo 15 runs alongside the Rhône-Rhine Canal and the Petite Camargue Alsacienne Nature Reserve, crosses the Hardt Forest, passes near Ottmarsheim and its Romanesque church, then on to Fessenheim, before reaching Neuf-Brisach, Vauban's citadel, and continuing on to Artzenheim. This is a “nature” route that combines the discovery of sites along the Rhine or the canal with others on the edge of the woods. From Marckolsheim, EuroVelo 15 follows the towpath of the Rhône-Rhine Canal. Until Strasbourg, the European capital, the ride is punctuated by locks and characterful churches, such as those in Neunkirch, Plobsheim, and Eschau. Beyond Strasbourg, it continues to La Wantzenau, later joining the banks of the river at Gambsheim. After Sessenheim, the canalized Rhine ends at Beinheim. Passing through Rhine forests and nature reserves such as Munchhausen, the route finally reaches Lauterbourg. EuroVelo15 - Rhine Cycle Route connects the source of the Rhine in Switzerland to the North Sea in the Netherlands. The section from Brigels (Switzerland) to Rheinbreitbach (Germany) is certified as a high-quality EuroVelo route recommended for all categories of cycle tourists by the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF).

DEPARTING FROM LAUSANNE, HEAD TO THE MEDIEVAL TOWN OF GRUYÈRES, HOME TO THE FAMOUS SWISS CHEESE! Departing from Lausanne, head to the medieval town of Gruyères, home to the famous Swiss cheese!  Leave Lausanne by bus and climb up into the alpine pastures to reach Gruyères.  After a tour around the town, your guide will take you to a Swiss chocolate factory to show you how famous Swiss chocolate is made.  Then head to an old alpine cheese factory. Enjoy a Swiss cheese tasting and learn more about the national dish: fondue.  Learn to make your own Swiss fondue and try the traditional dish.  After your meal, relax and climb on board the Golden Express, a panoramic train which crosses the alpine pastures and the heights of Lake Geneva. Enjoy incredible views of the lake and the Alps. When you get off the train, get back on your bus and head to Lavaux and its terraced vineyards. The Gallo-Roman Museum in Biesheim is exclusively dedicated to the site of the Roman military camp set up on the west bank of the Rhine River north of Neuf-Brisach. International teams of archaeologists have conducted extensive excavations on the 200 hectares (500 acres) of this exceptional site extending over the communes of Biesheim and Kunheim. Due to its privileged position on the Rhine River, it played a major role in the Romanisation of temperate Europe in the 1st century A.D. as well as in the fall of the Roman Empire following the barbarian invasions in the 5th century. The outlay of the site is nowadays clearly defined: a vicus (settlement) which grew up between two centers of military occupation comprising a vexillation fortress dating from the 1st Century A.D., used as a base for the conquest of the agri-decumates (tithe-paying fields) along the Danube and the Rhine Rivers, and a palace-fortress in the 4th century A.D. The collections, supplemented by many information panels, are focused on three topics: military and commercial activities (stamped tiles, offensive and defensive weapons, coins, amphoras, an extremely rare silver ingot) - burial and religious rites (a sandstone sarcophagus, funerary artifacts, the remains of a temple dedicated to the Iranian God Mithras) - everyday life (jewels, utilitarian dishes or precious tableware, craft industry, various utensils as well as an intaglia unique for its size and the quality of the engraving). Recent finds are displayed in a special area.

Inside the ramparts of the Vauban citadel in Neuf-Brisach, internationally renowned artists have taken over nearly 1,200m² of an old casemate to create the MAUSA Vauban. Come and discover the portrait of Vauban by stencil artist C215, the frescoes by Seth the globe-painter, the large white bodies by Jérôme Mesnager, the immersive installations by Denis Meyers and Levalet, the metro graffiti artist Nasty, Pure Evil's Marilyn Monroe, Joseph Ford's XXL photographs, Guy Denning's chapel... and much more!

Set up in 1957, the Vauban Museum occupies the ground floor of the Belfort Gate. Going through the two rooms, the visitor will learn about the fortress of Neuf-Brisach, the last fortification built by Vauban before he died. The displays will tell him something about the history of the town, from the date of its construction in 1699 to the present day times. A raised-relief plan shows the fortress such as it was conceived by Vauban; it is a faithful copy of the model on display in the Relief Model Museum in Paris. Among other interesting documents, the visitor will ind the plans of the fortification and the techniques of construction; the layout of the various buildings; a bust statue of Vauban made by Coysevox and documentation about the 1870 siege and WWII.

St. Grégoire's chapel is located in the hamlet of Mauchen, to the south of Marckolsheim. Built in 1246, it is the only remaining trace of the village of Mauchenheim, which was first recorded in writing in the year 777. This village, which once had between 200 and 250 inhabitants, disappeared between 1200 and 1300 following a series of pillages, invasions, Rhine floods and outbreaks of plague. A reconstruction of the 18th-century frescoes, outlining part of Genesis, can be seen above the chapel's entrance.

The club Sports Nautiques Centre Alsace, allows everyone, whatever their level, the practice of water skiing and wakeboarding, in a natural setting.

From 1911 onwards, the electricity of the town of Marckolsheim was generated by a coal plant situated next to the Rhone-Rhine canal. Since 1962, this role has been carried out by the hydroelectric plant set up on the Grand Canal of Alsace. On average, the plant produces 928 million kWh per year. The construction of this plant, along with two locks and a dam of the river Rhine, completely changed the local landscape. You can watch boats passing through the lock from the observation bridge.

Located in Marckolsheim in pillbox # 35 on the third line of defense, this Memorial commemorates the fierce fighting of June 15, 16 and 17, 1940, which resulted in over 80% destructions for the town. The rooms have been rehabilitated such as they were in 1940: firing chambers, generating unit, sleeping quarters, command post, well for drinking water etc. They are outfitted with original weapons such as an antitank gun, machine guns, mortars, Bren guns, as well as a variety of optical equipment. Weapons and their ammunition, war memorabilia or photographs taken in 1939 and 1940 are displayed in the cabinets. Outside are exhibited various military vehicles, including a 152 mm Russian gun, a Sherman tank, a half-track, an armored car, a field kitchen, an anti-aircraft Bofors gun and part of a Bailey bridge.

Rebuilt in the presbytery garden, a small 18th century half-timbered building has been converted to house the heritage collections on the history of Grussenheim, the association of the Friends of Annette de Rathsamhausen and the old Grussenheim. Open on request.
