The RouteFrom Huningue to Lauterbourg - EuroVelo 15 runs alongside the Rhône-Rhine Canal and the Petite Camargue Alsacienne Nature Reserve, crosses the Hardt Forest, passes near Ottmarsheim and its Romanesque church, then on to Fessenheim, before reaching Neuf-Brisach, Vauban's citadel, and continuing on to Artzenheim. This is a “nature” route that combines the discovery of sites along the Rhine or the canal with others on the edge of the woods.
From Marckolsheim, EuroVelo 15 follows the towpath of the Rhône-Rhine Canal. Until Strasbourg, the European capital, the ride is punctuated by locks and characterful churches, such as those in Neunkirch, Plobsheim, and Eschau. Beyond Strasbourg, it continues to La Wantzenau, later joining the banks of the river at Gambsheim. After Sessenheim, the canalized Rhine ends at Beinheim. Passing through Rhine forests and nature reserves such as Munchhausen, the route finally reaches Lauterbourg.
EuroVelo15 - Rhine Cycle Route connects the source of the Rhine in Switzerland to the North Sea in the Netherlands. The section from Brigels (Switzerland) to Rheinbreitbach (Germany) is certified as a high-quality EuroVelo route recommended for all categories of cycle tourists by the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF).
