Discover Camping Les Micocouliers in Sorede

Immersion dans la forêt domaniale de l'Albera pour atteindre le sommet à 1256m. Vue exceptionnelle. Departure from the Tourist Office of Sorède. Head left on D1, climb straight up Lilac Street. Cross the river, Tassio. Turn left onto Veinat Street, then Mas Felix Street. Cross the river again and head left onto Mas Soula Street. Ascend while following the river. At this point, cross and pass a small barrier to the left. Follow the path through broom and then oak trees. Cut across the DFCI trail to climb straight up to Col dels Pomers (655m). Continue on the trail, which joins the one coming from Laroque. (Option to climb a hillock to see the Dolmen "Balma del moro". You will pass through a chestnut grove. Cross the forest track of Ouillat to reach Col de la Vaca Vella, and 20 minutes later, arrive at Col de l'Artiguet (1015m). Further along, the trail intersects with a track leading to Tanyareda. Head west for 300 meters, then climb a embankment to reach a meadow (panoramic view of Canigou), partially climb before entering the forest. Arrive at "Font del Puig Neulos" (in Catalan). From there, the trail ascends to the south to reach the road that leads to Pic Néoulous. To descend, follow the circuit in reverse."

Typical village, hermitage, lookout with exceptional views ! Exit the tourist office, turn left, and then go straight until you reach the footbridge that you need to cross. At the statue of Christ, turn left towards Notre-Dame du Château, passing through the casot circuit. Don't hesitate to take a small detour to see them when they are off the path. Turn left onto the track leading to the Ermitage Notre-Dame du Château. Then head towards the Roc de les Medes. Admire the view of the Massane and the ruins of Ultrera. Continue along the path, following the yellow markers.

Discovering the Treasures of Sorède. Starting from the Tourist Office. Cross Rue de la Caserne and head to the Town Hall parking lot. Walk along the Town Hall and take the passageway under the hackberry trees. These famous hackberry trees have brought Sorède renown since the early 20th century and still do today, thanks to the ESAT. Climb a few steps and turn left onto Rue de la Maréchalerie. The houses here are typically close together. They formed part of the castle's protective wall, as they were located within 30 feet of the church. In the 1900s, craftsmanship was prominent in the village streets: cooper, harness maker, muleteer, blacksmith, and farrier. On the right, take Côte de l'Église and stop at its entrance. The Parish Church. Formerly a seigneurial chapel, it became a church in the 12th century. Its typical Romanesque-style capital is a testament to that era. The church is dedicated to St. Assiscle and St. Victoire, whose relics were brought from Cordoba. The inscription "Populus me fecit" (1733), carved into the capital, indicates its full restoration in the 18th century. On Place de la République, walk under the archway and at the end of the street, turn left. Take the first left to return to the square, where you have just circled the castle. The Fortress Building. Fortified in 1299, it belonged to the nobility until the French Revolution. The archway was once the guardroom, and the current Place de la République was the parade ground. These are the only remaining vestiges. Today, it is private property and houses an old oil mill that was used until the harsh winters of 1955-1956. Take Rue Saint-Jacques towards the community hall.Rue Saint-Jacques. This street crosses the former "Hortolans" neighborhood (from hort, Catalan for garden). Many gardens were once located here, benefiting from water from a nearby canal. A statue of Saint James, patron saint of gardeners, adorns a house façade. In front of this house, take the alley on the right. Rue du Rec Mayral. At the end of the street, you'll discover an ancient irrigation system. The Rec Mayral and its twenty secondary canals made up the village's irrigation network. Using a system of gates, the canals provided water to the nearby gardens year-round. Strictly regulated during droughts, the system still sparks small disputes today. Return the way you came and take the street descending to the left of the Hôtel Les Mas. At the end of the path, you arrive between Mas Miquel (right) and Mas Soula (left). In the past, many isolated mas (farmhouses) surrounded the village, such as Mas Bassole, Mas Florenti, and Mas Tarté. Turn left, then take the first left onto Rue du Mas Soula. Opposite No. 20, take the small descending path. Chemin Vicinal No. 8.This path ran along the Albères foothills from Villelongue-dels-Monts. It led to the Sainte-Marie de la Coberta Church, which was washed away in the 17th century. La Font del Bisbe. Translated as "The Bishop's Fountain," it is named after Bishop Cholet, the papal legate who accompanied King Philip III the Bold and his army during the 1285 crusade against the King of Aragon. The bishop rested here, and you can too if you wish! Cross the footbridge and follow the ascending path. Turn at the first street on your right to reach the Mas Félis district. Mas Félix. This area housed one of the first grain mills. Follow the main road. Rue du Veinat. This street runs along the river and ascends to Le Christ des Missions. In Catalan, veinat means "neighborhood." This area remained isolated from the village for a long time and was a hamlet in itself. At the end of the street, on your right : Le Christ des Missions. In 1893, wooden crosses were erected following the return of an evangelical mission, hence the name. The road on the right leads to the Notre-Dame du Château chapel. On your left, a small path descends to the river and brings you to the Rouréde (oak grove). Rue des Châtaigniers. This street crosses part of the Formiguer district. Previously, this area featured small mounds surrounded by brush and groves resembling giant anthills. These vegetation piles were ground up to improve crop cultivation. At the first intersection, take the dead-end street on your right. Rue des Micocouliers. This street is named after the tree that brought Sorède fame. In the early 20th century, over 300 Sorèdiens worked making whips, splints, and horse collars from its wood. The factory, the last of its kind in the world, is located on Rue du Stade and is open to visitors free of charge. Follow the path under the trees along the irrigation canal. Le Puits du Cap de la Riba. This translates to "Well above the bank." Sorède’s extensive water projects made this well one of the most important due to its location. Its fresh, tasty water attracted many, who often lingered. Ahead, the footbridge (washed away several times) leads to Font del Sabater (Cobbler’s Fountain). Once used to soak leather, it no longer flows as it has been diverted. Near the well, take the sloping path upward. Across the way, take Rue du Mas del Rost and turn at the first left. Rue des Acacias. This district features typical houses with terraces, outdoor staircases, and cellars. It was disadvantaged due to the absence of canals. Many families who lived here worked for the whip factory. Turn left, then immediately right. Le Quartier du Campet. Literally meaning "small field," this area was named because each house had an adjoining small meadow. Located on the river's right bank, it remains significant as the home of many old Sorèdian families. After 100 meters, turn left. Traverse du Campet. This small street features authentic Catalan houses that have retained their charm. The river access here, as in many other places, allowed people to empty chamber pots. At the end of the street, turn left. The Bridge. Built over several decades beginning in 1841, this bridge replaced the previous ford near the washhouses where the Tassio River was crossed. After the bridge, take the street opposite, Rue du Puits. At the end, turn right and continue to Place Combes. Place Combes. This is the current market square. Previously called Place St-Pierre after a saint whose statue was located here, it hosted the grain market. Renamed in 1905, it now honors Emile Combes, a senator promoting secularism. At the butcher shop, continue along Rue du Centre to Place Padre Himalaya. The Sundial. Inaugurated in 2013, Sorède’s sundial is unique in France, blending creativity and technology.

An enjoyable hike that crosses Sorède, follows the river "Le Tassio," and allows you to discover old shepherd's huts in the Albères, a very well-preserved vernacular heritage. Depart from the Tourist Office of Sorède towards the upper part of the village. In front of the bakery, continue straight on Rue des Lilas, then Rue de Fount del Sabaté. At the intersection, turn left, then take the footbridge over the Tassio. At the junction, turn right onto Rue du Veïnat and veer slightly right onto Rue du Mas Félix. Continue your route by crossing the Tassio once again via the small wooden bridge and ascend the path ahead of you. At this point, turn left onto Rue du Mas Soula and proceed straight, following the river. Leave the housing estate to reach a shaded and marked trail that runs alongside the river. At the intersection, take the left path while staying on the marked route. Exercise caution on the trail overlooking the river for a few tens of meters. Continue until reaching the road, then cross it. Carry on along the trail, following the markings. There's a steep slope before reaching the track. At this point, turn left and head uphill towards the cabins and the sheepfold. Return to the trail on the right and follow it to point 8, then retrace your steps for the return journey.

A varied route through fields and vineyards connecting Sorede, beautiful village of  the Albera, to the seaside. Leaving from the Sorède office, go to the right, rue de la caserne, then at the roundabout straight ahead on the road to Palau. At the second roundabout, continue straight. Leave this road and go to the right, further on, fording. Go left for a few meters. At this point, turn right, Chemin de Saint-André. Turn right to join the track which winds through fields, Cross the road and go straight ahead. At this point, turn left. Route de Sorède, turn left. Turn right then follow the crossroads that crosses the river, "la Massana" and continue left on the Chemin du Roua. After the Auberge du Roua, go under the bridge. After a climb, you will arrive in Argelès in a housing estate. Turn left into rue des Micocouliers then straight ahead, rue du Moulin Mars. Turn left then a few meters further right onto avenue du 11 Novembre 1918. Ride  along the river and turn left onto avenue du 14 Juillet. continue opposite the roundabout, rue des Trabucayres. At the roundabout, go right, avenue Molière. At the roundabout, after the bridge, take the right, then continue towards the beach until the arrival roundabout by avenue Général de Gaulle. At the roundabout, turn left and before the Tourist Office, turn right into avenue des Pins. On the green promenade, go to the left. At this point, leave the seafront by turning left, pass between two buildings to join the avenue de la Méditerranée. At the roundabout, turn right on the coastal road to the Riberette bridge. Tip: a little further, venture into the Mas Larrieu Nature Reserve on the banks of the Tech.

Discover the natural and cultural heritage of the Albères through sports activities, and explore its rich craftsmanship. Departure: Town Hall Car Park When leaving the town hall car park, head towards Laroque-des-Albères. To do so, turn left onto Rue de la Caserne. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit. Pass in front of the church. At Place République, turn left onto Rue Saint-Jacques. Continue straight along Rue du Moulin Cassanyes. Turn right onto Rue du Vallespir, then continue straight ahead on Route du Moulin de Cassanyes to reach Laroque-des-Albères. At the end of this road, you’ll reach a “no entry” sign — turn right towards the roundabout. Take the 3rd exit, then follow the main road through the village. After crossing the bridge, turn left towards Villelongue-dels-Monts. Continue straight. At the roundabout, turn right onto Chemin de la Boutade. At the end of the path, do not follow the EV8 cycle route, but turn right instead. Upon entering Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines, turn right into the housing estate, and at the stop sign, continue straight ahead until you reach the water tower. After the water tower, turn left. Continue left along Avenue des 2 Catalognes, then bear right on Traverse de Villelongue. At the stop sign, turn left. Leave the EV8 and continue straight towards Villelongue Centre. At the stop, keep right, and continue straight ahead. After the second “give way” sign, turn left. At the stop sign, turn left again towards Montesquieu-des-Albères. In Villelongue, turn right towards the town hall. Pass in front of the town hall and the museum, then continue straight. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit. Continue straight to join the EV8, which you should take left, in the direction of Montesquieu. Leave the EV8 before the sign indicating Le Boulou and turn right. Pass under the highway bridge, then turn right onto the cycle path towards Argelès-sur-Mer. At the agricultural high school, leave the cycle path and turn left onto a small road (Cami de Vergells), which passes to the right of the school, leading to the entrance of the Villelongue-dels-Monts lake, next to the wastewater treatment plant. Continue straight ahead. At the stop sign, go straight across. Keep straight for 5.8 km. At the “give way” sign, turn right. Upon reaching Palau-del-Vidre, continue to the right. Near the post office (La Poste), turn left. After the road narrows, turn right and follow Rue Vila to reach the town hall car park. Cross it, then take the second street on the left, towards the “Micro Crèche”. Continue straight, passing the roundabout and leaving the village, until you pass under the highway bridge to reach Saint-André. Continue straight ahead. When you reach Allée de la Liberté on the right, cross the town hall car park. Follow the “All directions” sign twice. Take Rue des Micocouliers. At the stop sign, turn right to reach the Saint-André middle school. Go around the school to the right along the cycle path and continue straight towards Sorède. When you arrive in Sorède, at the roundabout follow signs to the town centre, then at the next roundabout, turn left to reach the town hall, the end of your route.

This route allows you to discover the heart of the village of Sorède, the Mas del Ca, La Vallée des Tortues or the Four Solaire from the Eurovélo 8 cycle path. Leave Eurovélo 8 from the crossroads at the entrance to Sorède, heading towards the Village. At the roundabout take the second exit towards the village center. At the next roundabout take the second exit towards Laroque-des-Albères. Go along the town hall of Sorède for a hundred meters above sea level. This portion of the road is one-way but in a shared traffic space. Enjoy the panoramic view of the Albères massif in front of you. Arriving at the square a few meters after the Church, turn left at the restaurant "Ma Maison" and take the road which goes up in a straight line. At the next crossroads keep right and pass the Hotel St-Jacques on your left. Continue on this path which will allow you to reach the heights of the village. Continue on rue du Moulin Cassanyes for about 800m. Just before the roundabout, take the cycle path on your left to the retirement home "Les Valbères". You will be from this point on a differentiated lane from automobile traffic for your safety. A brand new track to take you to the entrance of Mas del Ca. From there, you can reach the Turtle Valley animal park, learn how the Solar Oven works, or simply enjoy the view overlooking the plain of Roussillon. For the return take the avenue de la Vallée Heureuse to the crossroads of the road to Laroque. Cross straight on and at the next crossroads turn right on Rue du Canigou until the next crossroads. At the stop sign, turn left into rue de la Gabarre and exit the village. After a few hundred meters the road winds between the vines. Be careful, you will find the Eurovélo 8 cycle path on your right about 500m after the last house. Leave from the cycle path in the direction of Argelès-sur-Mer to complete this loop.

This hike, makes you discover casots or huts. These stone shelters bear witness to life in the Albères in the past. From the Sorède Tourist Information Office, follow the D2 towards Argelès-sur-Mer. On your right notice the sundial with its impressive 12m tall red mast. Cross the bridge on the left, then turn right (rue du Campet) towards Notre-Dame du Château. At Christ statue, turn left and continue straight until the end of the paved road (Rue de ND d’Ultrera). Continue on the DFCI AL33 trail until the first bend (oratory) then take the path in front, which follows a stream. You will discover huts all along the way (be careful, difficult passages). Retrace your steps to the oratory. Go up on the dirt track on the right, then take the path towards Notre-Dame du Château. This path is, in fact, the old Stations of the Cross taken by the "Soredians" at Easter. On the way pass another oratory. 25m further, climb to the right to discover a small enclosure, then a casot. Then continue the path up the path which is behind the casot.  Find the path of ND du Château which you have to take for 10m to see a new casot and the associated tallat. Continue the path until the sign “Font del Pardal”. Go up on the right of the path to discover a new casot, then return to the sign, and descend to the right of the path of ND du Château towards the "Font del Pardal". Observe another casot, then return to the drivable track. On the other side of the track there is another casot below. Return to the track and descend it to a wooden barrier on the right which must be passed to reach the next casot. Follow the yellow markings until the next junction. Following the path on the right, arrive at a casot that looks like an igloo. Retrace your steps, then take the path on the right which runs along a low wall. Note on the left the last casot on this hike. Continuing on the path, find the drivable track. Go down to the right to reach the village. After passing the Christ statue, a path appears on the left. It descends towards the river and the Tassio footbridge. Take it and join the Sorède Tourist Office.

Du village jusqu'au château d'Ultrera à la découverte de l'histoire des Albères. From the Tourist office of Sorede, take a left onto rue de la Caserne, then continue straight on. Cross the footbridge and reach  the paved street. Bypass the statue  of Christ,. and continue on the road in the direction of Notre-Dame-du-Château. At the intersection, continue in direction of Notre-Dame-du-Château and begin the climb on the DFCI- AL33. At the sign, leave the trail to join the path on right. Or you can choose to continue to Notre- Dame-du-Château by the trail (1,6 kms more). When the path leads to the paved road turn left and continue to climb up to the Ermitage. From Notre-Dame-du-Château, take the path at the end of the paved road to reach the ruins of the Ultrera Castle. Be careful.  The last few meters are steeper. Warning in case of wind. Come back down to Notre-Dame-du-Château and take the trail DFCI headed for Mas del Ca. Continue to follow the winding trail and you will be treated to a panoramic view of the “Happy Valley” and the Pic Néoulous. Go through the gate and close it behind you. Take the paved road on right. Leave the first bridge and continue to descend.  Pass the next bridge and continue on about 100 meters to the animal park “La Vallée des Tortues”. On the right, take the descending path parallel to the road and enter the clearing of Mas del Ca. Below the clearing, behind the picnic area, find a path that runs along a stream. Follow it to the left towards  Sorede. At the intersection take right and  go down the path. Continue in the woods to arrive at the entrance of the housing estate. At the exit of the housing estate, take the path on right while crossing the river. Come back towards the Tourist Office. After a driving rain the passage can be difficult to navigate. In that case take  the street of Moulin.Cassanyes

The Força Vella section of the ramparts was a military construction of decisive importance right from the times of the Roman precint (1bC). During the second half of the 14th century, this defensive rampart was thoroughly rebuilt at the initiative of Peter III the Ceremonious. The medieval fortification rested on the natural rock that rose a few meters above the sandy banks of the river Onyar.  It was an improvement over the old Roman wall which was used as a foundation, made into a double wall or even, in some sections, actually replaced by the new wall. From the early years of the 16th century, the walled precinct was absorbed into the city and the walls, by becoming features actually standing in the city, lost their military defensive value. This situation brought on the star of their deterioration, as parts of the walls were gradually altered from the inside and the outside to meet the needs of the people living alongside the fortification, by which time the former defensive construction had become an enormous party wall.  

Discovery of an exceptional natural environment At an altitude of 850 m, this chasm is about 60m by 30m and is accessible thanks to a platform of vision for a visit in full safety. It is the abyss of both absorption and collapse. The total depth reaches about 110m. This hole was a mass grave. When the horses were at the end of their life, their owner took them to this chasm. We guess then why this hole was prized crows.

One can, without fear of being accused of exaggeration, describe Fontestorbes as "Wonder of the World" and contrary to the seven wonders of the ancient world, all having in common to be the fact of the man, Fontestorbes is the only fruit of the chance of nature. A rare phenomenon and really extraordinary. For most of the year (7 to 9 months), the fountain runs constantly. On the other hand, during periods of low water from July to September, one day, it becomes abruptly intermittent over a complete cycle of about 60 to 90 minutes.

The Frau Gorge is the result of a long geological evolution. The mountain of Frau is an accumulation of secondary folded and compressed tablecloths carved by the glaciations, the strong snows and numerous floods digging the valley in gorges.
