Peisey Chapels route

Little chapel buildt in 1750, on the alpine meadows track.Consacreted at first to Notre-Dame of Snows (it was in August 5th 366 when the virgin indicated, by a snowfall in Rome, the location where must be built the basilica Sainte-Marie-Majeure.). The picture of the altarpiece and the front of altar evoke the Visitation (St Marie's visit to her cousin Elisabeth, pregnant with St Jean-Baptiste). Saint Jean Baptiste is also represented to the right of the altar. Saint Laurent, patron saint of poors, carries the palm of his martyr. Masses are served at the end of the day during the summer.

This Chapel, built in 1661, is dedicated to Sainte Marguerite. In the older times, there was a mass every springtime and automn when the hamlet was occupied by shepards.Chapel dedicated to Saint Marguerite. The chapel is opened during the high season. Waiting for restoration, it retains a particular charm with its chancel (painted wooden grid) pale blue, its tufa bell tower, its door open on the setting sun.

Chapel dedicated to Saint Marie-Madeleine, whom the existence dates of at least 1663.Restored by the School of Fine Arts by order of the city hall of Peisey, the parish and the association of the Vernettes friends: The outside in 2007. The inside in 2009. It found its original appearance which it had probably in the 17th century, when it was endowed. You will find archives and explanations photos about its history and its renovation there. Four elements are classified in the additional inventory of historic monuments. On the apse: a picture representing Saint Marie-Madeleine. Flowery motive and parrots embossed leather to the front of the altar. Saint Jacques archbishop's and Saint Claude's statues You will notice the beautiful wooden turned grate, the ceiling with flowery motives, painting tuff angel's head, the oculus in sun shape, the sundial, a wall Way of the Cross and other statuettes, the paintings, the crucifixes, the swiss pine cabinet. The current bell tower dates the beginning of the 20th century and contains an old parochial bell of 1819. Chapel opened during the tourist season thanks to the volunteers of the neighborhood. The mass is celebrated several times a year.

Saint Jacques le majeur at Pracompuet. Always open, on the Vernettes pilgrimage path.Built in 1684, dedicated at first to saint Guérin, protector of horned animals, and saint Antoine de Padoue, the biggest clergyman of the Middle Ages. (Represented on the picture of the choir) The chapel has a beautiful wooden swiss pine grate, a simple altarpiece with a picture in the center of which thrones a black Madonna with Child, which came from the sanctuary of Oropa in Piedmont, where inhabitants of Peisey worked as cloth merchants. On the picture we also see Saint Jacques the major with one shell on his shoulder, the pilgrim whose burial place is at Compostelle. You will notice the beautiful lock of the old door, the water font in the window, the small bell tower with its arrow of tuff.

Place of prayer, open daily thanks to the volunteers of the village. Its existence is proved true since 1638. The inside as well as the facade were renewed in 2010-2012.The chancel is sheltered behind a beautiful turned wood grate. The central altarpiece is occupied by a picture which represents the coronation of the Virgin by the trinity, with Saint Peter, Saint-Paul and Saint Barthelemy (carrying his own skin on his right hand and a butcher knife. Barthelemy was one of the twelve apostles. Tortured to death, skinned alive. He is the patron saint of the tanners: the tanneries of the valley were settled at le Villaret.) The decoration of the chapel is in red and blue tones, with many angels. On sides: saint François de Sales, patron saint of Savoy, Saint Jean the evangelist, with the eagle at his feet. Above on the left: Saint-Maurice of Agaune, patron saint of the House of Savoy, to the right: saint Michel bringing down the dragon. We shall notice the beautiful beam of glory with the crucifixion, Saint Marie and Saint Jean.

Alpine shrine built at 1816 m altitude, near a source to the miraculous virtues, Our Lady of The Vernettes is a very cherished place to the hearts of the people of the Valley.Since 300 years. In a mountain setting of exception, more and more visitors are delighted by the spirit of the place. A miraculous cure (1702) has justified, in the early 18th century, the building, near the source, of an oratory dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy, chief of lepers. This oratory has disappeared in an avalanche. He was replaced by the small chapel below, at the end of a nice cross and near the fountain. From 1720, building a larger sanctuary for pilgrims has been decided. The structural work was completed in 5 years.The interior decoration took the three decades following. In 1766 was decided the construction of the reception house, abutting the church. In 1777 a second tower was built. The construction and initial development took place over nearly 80 years. From restoration to restoration during 200 years, the sanctuary from The Vernettes has kept the appearance that it had at the beginning. A pilgrimage is organized every July 16. The sanctuary is classified as a historical monument. The town of Peisey-Nancroix has undertaken the restoration of interiors in 2008. The oldest and biggest chapel of the valley.The current chapel dates of 1449. It was formerly in the highest point of the village but the road and the urbanization "hidden" it just a little. It is not in a very good condition but keeps all its charm. One of the most livable thanks to the parishioners of Moulin. The rosary is recited during all the month of Mary. The chapel is opened almost always in the day. Sainte Agathe is one of the Saints very worshipped in Savoie. She is celebrated on February 5th and it is a custom to make a cake in the shape of hand or of breast. Born in Catania in Sicily, she was very beautiful and the Roman proconsul Quinten fell in love with her. He begged her to marry him but she refused. Then he called on a woman who was considered as distracting the girls, but this one failed. Quinten placed her under arrest and tortured Agathe unsuccessfully. In a jealous rage, he made her two breasts cut, but in a movement of protection she had a cut hand. To the surprise of the proconsul, the next day, Agathe had found the hand and its breasts. To put an end to this, he made her burn. But when the fire was lit, an earthquake and an eruption shook the island. Sainte Agathe "arrived" in Savoie where she was used against the fires in villages and she also became the boss of the young mothers and the nursemaids.

The design inside the parish church of PEISEY is exceptional in all Tarentaise.The church, perched at the top of the village, was built between 1685 and 1720, on the place of a more former church. It is one of rare in Tarentaise must to be still surrounded with its cemetery, real small panoramic garden. The outside of the church remains sober, with the exception of the portal. The bell tower is the highest of Tarentaise (50m).
