Maison Salettina – Corps (Matheysine, Isère): Established in 1961 in the birthplace of Maximin Giraud, witness to the apparition of Our Notre-Dame of La Salette. Century-old 1860 copper still still in use, 16 handcrafted liqueurs including the signature La Salettina and genepi liqueurs, free guided visits and tastings.
Discover Maison Salettina in Corps, Matheysine (Isère): an artisanal distillery founded in 1961 in the birthplace of Maximin Giraud – the shepherd who, together with Mélanie Calvat, witnessed the apparition of Our Lady of La Salette in 1846. Since 1961, this historic site has preserved an authentic Alpine craft thanks to its copper still dating from around 1860, still in operation.
Enjoy free guided visits to explore the living workshop: learn about the functioning of the century-old still, the differences between maceration (long infusion in barrels to capture the subtle flavours of plants and fruits) and distillation (to concentrate the aromatic essences), as well as the Alpine origin of the mountain plants that give these liqueurs their unique character. A truly sensory immersion into the daily life of an Alpine liquor maker!
Among the range: La Salettina, mentioned in “L’Inventaire du patrimoine culinaire de la France: Rhône-Alpes – Produits du terroir et recettes traditionnelles” published by Albin Michel/CNAC/Région Rhône-Alpes, under the direction of Alexandre Lazareff (Director General of the CNAC), available in Yellow 40°, Green 45° and White 50° versions made from 21 alpine plants; Génépi des Alpes IGP (macerated ≥3 years or distilled); Vulnéraire, Hysope, and wild fruit liqueurs (raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberries, blueberries). Tastings are offered on site.
Corps, a village rich in history, was also a significant stop for Napoleon I: on 6 March 1815, during his triumphant return from Elba, he spent the night in a house on the Grande Rue before continuing to Laffrey and the famous Prairie de la Rencontre. Complete your stay with a visit to the Notre-Dame de La Salette sanctuary (a few kilometres away, iconic pilgrimage site at 1800 m), the typical narrow streets of Corps, or hikes in the Matheysine to admire the Alpine landscapes and the wild plants that inspire these liqueurs. A perfect blend of spirituality, Napoleonic history and terroir traditions!
Free of charge.
