Camping Le Gave d'Aspe: Discover Urdos and its Wonders

In Jaca, the crossing of the Pyrenees ends. The path that leads there leaves you free to appreciate the changes that accompany this long descent southwards. From the high beech woods with their fresh and humid scents to the wheat fields crossed by arid paths lined with dry stones, in the aromas of pine and rosemary. From the quiet summer pastures, ideal for contemplation, to the lively streets of the Aragonese villages, where people are happy to call out to one another.

Starting from the old customs of Urdos, this trail unveils a wild valley traversed by a beautiful and physically demanding route. Here, shepherds and sheep occupy these extensive pastures. The ascent to the refuge at 1724 meters marks the highlight of this beautiful hike with an impressive panorama.

This unusual hike goes up the "gorges of hell" on a path carved into the limestone cliff. Thrills guaranteed on this heady section of the GR10. The rest is plain sailing on a stunning trail leading to the Col d'Arras.

Step into the bear's world! The trail starts out a little steep but calms down fairly soon. The south-facing track passes by barns and crosses through the ferns. Bear tracks are visible throughout the trek. Watch out for the descent which is steep!

The village of Borce is well-known for its wildlife park and connection with bears. Exploring the paths above it, some of which have been reopened, is a chance to soak up mountain life here. Using them for leisure now helps keep them in good condition.

This portion of Saint-Jacques is a big climbing stage in the crossing of the Pyrenees. The villages of Borce, Etsaut and Urdos will allow you to refuel or to eat before crossing the border. Attention, the construction site of securing the route: It is desirable that the hikers, the pilgrims and the cyclists privilege the use of the public transport (bus of the CITRAM) between Bedous and the station of Urdos in order to limit as much as possible the frequentation of the construction site. The Cabane d'Udapet at the bottom is nestled by a clearing on the legendary GR10 trail. It's nice and cool in the summertime so a shepherd stays here with his flock. To do so, you need to climb up a fern area that slopes up to the sun. The rest is pure joy on a stunning ledge.

Leaving the Aspe valley by the vertiginous Chemin de la Mâture you will rise through forests and estives to the Ayous pass to enjoy an exceptional panorama of the fascinating Pic du Midi d'Ossau. The descent into the Ossau valley is lined with magnificent lakes. A well-marked itinerary, for experienced walkers and in good weather.

This connection links Etsaut to the GR10 and avoids the road. There may well be a difference in altitude but it's far nicer than walking on tarmac at the bottom of the valley! There are also other loops from the Col d'Arras making Etsaut a great starting point.

In the heart of the Vallée d'Aspe, just a few kilometers from Accous, this plateau of pastures and estives stretches along the Labadie towards the Pyrenees National Park and Spain. Surrounded by gentle mountains and prestigious peaks, the middle part of the plateau offers a beautiful, moderately graded route to meet the herds, on a small cul-de-sac road.

On the paths of Compostella, the Borce hostel is place of welcome, meditation, information. A graphic museum will help you to discover : - the origins of the Compostella pilgrimage, past and current motivations, travelling conditions, etc. - the chronological history of this building. This former chapel has found its original aspect through a scenography, a place of meditation and symbol of hope to have access to the voyage, to the joy of wandering, to the search for the light.

Situated in the upper Aspe Valley in the Pyrenees Béarnaises, the village of Borce has retained its medieval character. Crossed by the Way of Saint Jacques de Compostelle, you can visit l'Hospitalet, the pilgrims' chapel which has been restored. The picnic area is in the centre of the village and offers games for children to spend a moment of relaxation and rest.

In the upper Aspe valley at Etsaut, in the Bearnaise Pyrenees, the Maison du Parc is a reception and information centre where you can consult documentation on the National Park, the natural and cultural wealth of the valleys, hiking routes, refuges, fauna, flora and regulations A permanent exhibition on the great fauna of the Pyrenees and especially on the brown bear and temporary exhibitions are available throughout the year. A discovery trail has been created: "the trail of trees". More than 25 trees are presented by interpretation panels in French, Spanish, Braille and enlarged characters for the blind and partially sighted. The House of the National Park and the trail are certified "Tourism and Disability" for the four disabilities.

The mountains of the Bearnaise Pyrenees have the privilege of being part of the Pyrenees National Park. Hiking in the National Park is the assurance of discovering exceptional landscapes, it is discovered on foot. This classification protects and enhances the natural wealth, flora and fauna. It is advisable to respect the regulations to help preserve this area.

This pebbly section runs on a second home. Go past the front and hit the trail along a stream (so cute). Get back onto a track after a few bends and cross the Boussoum. Go straight down the road at the crossroads and reach the car park.

Situated in the Aspe Valley in the Pyrenees Béarnaises and facing the Lescun Mountain Circus, the Plateau de Lhers is perched at an altitude of 1000 metres. At the entrance of the hamlet, an orientation table is at your disposal to contemplate the Cirque de Lescun in a different way. Extend to the bottom of the plateau, tables are at your disposal along the stream Le Labadie for a gourmet break or a moment of relaxation. Sheep, horses, cows and donkeys will keep you company in summer.

At the gates of the Pyrenees National Park? Come and discover the charm of the high valley of Aspe, in the Bearnaise Pyrenees near the village of Urdos? your bivouac for adventure On the banks of the Gave d'Aspe, the campsite welcomes you on 80 delimited, shaded and flat pitches as well as two bungalows and two mini chalets. The campsite is open from May 1 to September 30 and the bungalows are open all year round. The campsite has sanitary facilities adapted for people with reduced mobility.

In the heart of the village of Urdos, gîte d'étape welcomes pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela (GR653). With a capacity of 9, pilgrims have direct access to the adjoining grocery store. The "Les Voyageurs" restaurant is 50 m from the gîte (closed Sunday evening and all day Monday). Reservations required by telephone for the gîte.

Chalet Josette is located in the heart of the mountains, in Urdos, the last village of the Aspe valley before Spain and close to the Fort du Portalet and the Nordic area of Somport. Recently renovated, the chalet Josette is in a peaceful haven, facing the mountains. It is the ideal place to recharge your batteries.
