Situated between Saint-Palais and Bidache, the Bois de Mixe is an old dependency of the Crown of Navarre sold to the communes of the Pays de Mixe by Jeanne d'Albret in the 16th century. Over the centuries, the wood, initially composed of beech, oak, cherry and ash trees, has given way to American red oak and some softwoods.
