Situated between Saint-Palais and Bidache, the Bois de Mixe is an old dependency of the Crown of Navarre sold to the communes of the Pays de Mixe by Jeanne d'Albret in the 16th century. Over the centuries, the wood, initially composed of beech, oak, cherry and ash trees, has given way to American red oak and some softwoods. More productive, this species of oak regenerates easily and gives the Mixe wood a forest life that is still authentic.
The walker will find a discovery trail with a ford, a suspension bridge and several fun ways to cross the Patarena, the stream of the wood. Follow the Owl: she will explain the life of the forest and the trees.
