The first part of this walk follows the thematic track, via Laurenque and that of the Grand Randonnee ®636 towards Saint-Avit. It then follows the river Lède and you will see the six mills that have been built along the water.

This new walk, in the middle of the woods, offers a great opportunity for lovers of nature and history, with a bonus; a mysterious and captivating atmosphere.

This walk will take you through a wooded area to discover the natural and architectural treasures of the valley of the Lède. From Gavaudun castle to the mysterious church of Laurenque. If you know the answers to the questions on the 12 thematic panels, you can have them checked at the reception of the castle.

This valley of the river Lède, dominated by oak and chestnut trees, let you discover the imposing castle of Gavaudun, the luminous site of Saint-Avit and the priory and the mysterious church of Laurenque. The castle, massive and slender and perched on a rock of 300m long and 40m high, dominates the valley. It is inaccessible from all sides except from the north side where they had dug a trench, and it had a strong position in the valley that links the Agenais to the Périgord. The entrance to the castle goes through a cave followed by a well and a stone staircase. The donjon from the 14th century is 70m high, and is still intact, with its six floors. The stone houses, the wash place and the woods around the village are the attractions of this protected site.

Situated on a long plateau, the village Paulhiac hides well behind a round hill. The track, mainly on wooded paths, ends on a panoramic road with beautiful views of Biron and Monflanquin.

After the first part on a very open plateau you will walk on shady paths. This walk ends in a forest with wide open tracks ; those tracks are there to prevent and fight against fires.

The forest surrounds Lacapelle-Biron, a village born in the 18th century from the impatience of the Marquis de Biron, who could not stand the noise of the market held at the foot of his castle.

Bernard Palissy, born in Saint-Avit-sur-Lède around 1510, was an apprentice glassmaker in Biron. He owes his fame mainly to his achievements in the field of architectural decoration (grottoes, fountains, stoves) and luxury tableware, which is characterized by different types of decoration: naturalist (the "rustic" and "jaspés"), but also figurative and ornamental (interlacing, leather, grotesques...). It was the perfection with which he reproduced animals, plants and rocks that made Palissy exceptional in the art of clay. His personal production merges with that of his sons and disciples, known as the Palissy school. A Huguenot, he was arrested in 1589 and locked up in the Bastille where he died the same year. His work was revived in the 19th century by imitators such as Charles Avisseau in Tours and Georg

Classified as a natural site as a whole since 1999, this valley carved out by the river Lède is worth a visit. A hideout for heretics in the 11th and 12th centuries, rebuilt in the 13th century, Gavaudun Castle has a defensive system remarkably suited to the site (daylight wells, curtain walls crowning the spur, 6-level keep). It overlooks the Haute Vallée de la Lède. Visiting Gavaudun means storming the keep. As you pass through the entrance carved into the rock, you can discover the fortress's astonishing architecture, admire the breathtaking view of the village and learn about its history thanks to a variety of entertaining guided tours. In summer season, treasure hunts, storytelling mornings, stone cutting, abseiling and other activities bring the castle to life.

From the bastide town of Monflanquin in the north of Lot-et-Garonne, in Haut-Agenais, go up the Lède valley and stop at Gavaudun, a tiny village dominated by a fortress with a proud keep built on a rock. Take a few hundred metres along a path in the undergrowth of chestnut and oak trees and, at the bend in the road, you will see the church of Saint-Sardos de Laurenque, surrounded by its cemetery and tall cypress trees. First annexed to the priory of Saint-Sardos of which the ruins remain to the south of the hamlet of Laurenque, this beautiful Romanesque church of the 12th century took its name in the 17th century. Built of dressed stone, it is distinguished by its median bell tower, its single nave divided into barrel vaulted bays and above all its remarkable portal, with its friezes and capitals with menagerie and stone plants.

The museum that bears his name offers a permanent exhibition devoted to the life and work of this humanist whom the 19th century had named "The French Leonardo da Vinci". To pay tribute to this avant-garde, the museum presents each year, from mid-May to the end of September, exhibitions of renowned contemporary ceramists on a theme that changes each year: "White" in 2025. On the second weekend of August, forty potters take part each year in a large Pottery Fair in the medieval hamlet.

The village of Lacapelle-Biron experienced dark times during the passage of the 2nd SS Das Reich armoured division in 1944. In memory of this recent period of our history, the Departmental Monument to the Deportation was erected on the village square. Nearby, the hamlet of Saint-Avit, a remarkable architectural ensemble, deserves more than just a visit. The Romanesque church and the small cemetery are next to the supposed birthplace of Bernard Palissy. There you will discover a particularly rich collection of works by great ceramists of our time.
