Château de Gavaudun
Description
A hideout for heretics in the 11th and 12th centuries, rebuilt in the 13th century, Gavaudun Castle has a defensive system remarkably suited to the site (daylight wells, curtain walls crowning the spur, 6-level keep). It overlooks the Haute Vallée de la Lède. Visiting Gavaudun means storming the keep. As you pass through the entrance carved into the rock, you can discover the fortress's astonishing architecture, admire the breathtaking view of the village and learn about its history thanks to a variety of entertaining guided tours.
In summer season, treasure hunts, storytelling mornings, stone cutting, abseiling and other activities bring the castle to life.
