From the leisure port of Castelmoron, you will discover the banks of the river and the port, before climbing the winding road that leads to a wooded plateau. From the various hills you cross, you will see a succession of views of numerous pechs, villages and windmills. In the 13th century, the settlement grouped around the castle, on the banks of the river, took the name of Castelmoron which means "castle of the marshes". Then in the 19th century, the old "castle" was completely transformed with a Moorish style architecture, inspired by the Alhambra of Granada. Today, this "castle" is the town hall of Castelmoron.

The GR® 654 crosses France from Vézelay in Burgundy. It crosses the Lot-et-Garonne from north to south for almost 150 km, from the plum trees of the Haut-Agenais to the sands of the Landes de Gascogne, passing through the Lot and Garonne valleys.

This walk will lead you to discover the natural and architectural treasures around the town of Temple-sur-Lot, timber-framed or mud houses, wash houses, the water lilies of Latour-Marliac. Desks as well as thematic panels will allow you to know more..

Following in the footsteps of the La Vallée du Lot à Vélo itinerary, pedal along a stretch of greenway from Granges-sur-Lot to Villeneuve-sur-Lot, passing through Sainte-Livrade and Le-Temple-sur-Lot. It's a safe route, but you'll need to be careful if you're travelling with children, as you'll be passing through the communes of Le Temple-sur-Lot and Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot. A playground and rest area is available in Granges-sur-Lot. Numerous rest areas are also available along the route.

Starting from the bastide of Laparade, this circuit overlooks the Lot valley. It then turns into the small valley of the Torgue, where rivers and hillside lakes irrigate the crops.

The fortress of Castelseigneur, the former name of this village, was founded in the 13th century on a promontory overlooking the Lot valley. To the north of the river, this circuit offers successive viewpoints on the villages of Grateloup, Verteuil-d'Agenais, Tourtrès, Tombeboeuf, Brugnac, Monclar-d'Agenais, etc

This short walk descends first into a deep valley to the north of the bastide. From the place called la Rocaille, the circuit overlooks the river, via the orientation table, the streets of the bastide and the belvedere of the public garden. The bastide of Laparade was founded in 1265 by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis. It was easy to defend against possible attackers because it was situated on a plateau more than 155 m above the Lot valley. On the plateau side, to the north and west, the village was protected by ramparts and a deep moat, part of which remains today. Three gates were equipped with drawbridges and defended by a barbican. The village had a hospital and two churches: one in the village and one outside the fortifications at a place called "Touraille". A fortified castle, on the site of the public garden, dominated the valley.

At the start, there are the steep streets of the village, its baker, its church, its windmill and its orientation table. Then, this circuit borders numerous orchards of plum trees of Ente and offers beautiful views on the site of the departure and the valley of the Lot.

Saint-Médard, Pérignac and Saint-Jean-de-la-Balerme, three of the seven churches of Montpezat- d'Agenais will punctuate your steps before reaching the wash house, nestled in the greenery at the foot of the village.

Castelmoron is situated on the banks of the Lot and enjoys the benefits of the rich agricultural land, famous for its prune trees. The fortified town was built in the 13th century and, following several Anglo-French conflicts, became one of the area’s most important cities in the 16th century. Its irregular shape follows the geographical conditions (such as the waterways and hills) and encompasses an old town centre and several squares. The quality of the buildings is mixed, with certain areas like the Place Jules Calas displaying beautiful façades which combine wooden panelling and decorative brick and stone masonry. The church was built on the site of the old cemetery; it was consecrated in 1853 by the bishop of Agen. It is a modern church with a painted interior.

The medieval village developed in the 13th century around the Commandery founded by the Templars on their return from the Crusades. The village has preserved a few half-timbered houses, its convent, its dovecote, the wisteria bridge and the family home of the famous Joseph Bory Latour Marliac. The latter founded the Water Lily Garden, the oldest water lily nursery in the world. It covers 2.5 hectares and presents nearly 250 species of hardy and tropical water lilies, including the giant Amazonian water lily! Mr. Latour Marliac, naturalist and horticulturist, worked on the hybridization between local white hardy varieties and colored tropical varieties. He presented his work at the World Fair of 1889 where he crossed paths with a certain Claude Monet?

About 30km north-east of Agen, Nénuphars Latour-Marliac Garden is located in the village of Temple/Lot, near the river which receives water from its basins. Labelled as a “Remarkable Garden”, it is also the oldest nursery of water lilies in the world and the site of the National Collection of Water lilies. It is open from May to October, for the full flowering period of its 250 rustic and tropical species. The Latour-Marliac Water Lily Garden invites you to wander around a 2.5 ha park, from an exotic greenhouse which houses the Victoria giant water lily to a bamboo garden, from reservoirs surrounded by ponds to the Japanese bridge… It is possible to eat among the flowers in Marliacea Café and to buy plants on site, thinking of the painter Claude Monet who came here to find his water lilies in the late 19th century.

This countryside mooring area has a floating landing stage on the left bank of the river, just upstream from the village itself. There is a footpath running alongside the Lot which leads to the village church, and picnic tables set in the shade. Granges-sur-Lot is a bastide founded in 1291 by Edward I, at that time King of England with the abbot of Clairac. In 1345 the neighbouring lords, the lords of Montpezat, recovered the rights that the abbot had received. The village, which was practically destroyed during the Hundred Years' War, rose again around the 15th and 16th centuries, then fell victim to the Wars of Religion. Being an important centre of boatmen and close to the commercial agglomeration of the town of Clairac, the bastide remained under the obedience of the Montpezat family until the revolution.
