To discover the history of the town of Capbreton, let yourself go along its narrow streets (1) also called "balènes", some of whose names are those of the sailors, masters and ship captains who lived here. Continue along the pedestrian street of Général-de-Gaulle (2) called "Grand'rue" and admire at numbers 48 and 56, the two medieval houses with corbelling and half-timbering called "Maisons des Anglais". Continuing your way, you will come across the charming tree-lined square "Yan dou Gouf" (3) (Jean Duboscq), poet and Gascon teacher. Nearby is the media library "L'Écume des jours" in homage to Boris Vian who stayed in Capbreton in 1940 and met his wife Michelle there. Linger a little further on at the Maison de l'Oralité et du Patrimoine (4) located in the heart of the town.

Built on the former bed of the Adour, the Boudigau (1) which means canal in Gascon will be the starting point of our bucolic stroll. Along the cycle path leading to the marina and fishing port (2), you can stroll by bike, rollerblade or on foot, depending on your mood. If you take the beach path, it is impossible to miss the Capbreton fish market (3). Its particularity: the 19 boats in the port of Capbreton can sell their catch of the day directly without going through an auction, an ultra-fresh fish at a reasonable price: the best for gourmets! On the way to the Estacade (5), the Capitainerie (4) informs the sailors of the weather conditions. As for the Estacade, it is the emblematic monument which symbolises the revival of the port of Capbreton after the long centuries of decline which followed the diversion of the Adour.

45mn -2.7km. Departure : CERS of Capbreton in front of the Prévent beach, go directly to the entrance of the path indicated by educational panels. On the top of the Savane beach, you can observe the blockhouses often covered with graphics and paintings made by the artist Darry Perier who initiates to live painting and makes discover the secrets and tricks of urban art. Further on, take an interest in the dune flora that develops on the different parts of the embryonic dune and the "white" dune. Continue opposite the beach of the Piste where you can contemplate the dunes of Capbreton in all their extent, you will then see the pante aux alouettes. Then discover the dune vineyard which produces a wine of character: the Vin des Dunes. Finish your walk by lingering on the characteristics of the flora and fauna of the back dune or "grey" dune.

1.2 km long, the seafront promenade will allow you to admire the beaches of Hossegor and the Place des Landais, an architectural site classified as an "area for the enhancement of architecture and heritage" of the most prestigious. You will take a footbridge inaugurated in 2010 while enjoying the view of the ocean and the Pyrenees chain.

During this stroll along roads and paths, you'll see traditional houses typical of the Barthes de l'Adour (natural wetlands). You'll also have the chance to see many species of trees, such as black alder, pedunculate oak, chestnut and maritime pine.

Interest: Protected natural area. Main ornithological site. The marsh was dried out for agricultural purposes under Napoleon the IIIrd mandate. This old polder is surrounded by canals. It is now a privileged halt for migrating birds wanting to rest and feed. The Marsh of Orx welcomes a great diversity of birds. It is a vast and well known protected area. Open all year long for a free visit: Activities, guided tour (by appointment), bird watching…

The chapel was built in 1932 on the dunes at Labenne Océan. Of classical architectural style, it is composed of a sanctuary and a single nave. The interior of the chapel is decorated with a Way of the Cross painted by a student of Fine Arts, Suzanne Labatut. The Germans, who occupied the chapel during the Second World War, fled with the bell. It was replaced after the occupation. Over the years, the chapel has suffered climatic hazards and vandalism, it is very degraded. Because of its heritage character and its location on the dune, the Conservatoire du Littoral is implementing its restoration in the fall of 2018. The bell is restored and put back in its bell tower for the inauguration of the chapel in June 2019. The chapel is not open to the public, except for exceptional events, but it is possible to admire it from the outside.

By bike or on foot, come and discover the Boudigau, a historic canal. Just a stone's throw from the city center, take the time to discover the landscaped banks and observe the surrounding fauna and flora. The Boudigau, a Gascon word meaning "canal", was built on the former bed of the Adour, a river diverted in 1578 to Bayonne by the engineer Louis de Foix. Around the church are the small chapel of Notre Dame and the St Roch fountain. The latter serves as the goal of the short procession that follows mass on Whit Monday. And if the local people refer to the Notre Dame de Saubion festival, it's actually a pilgrimage to the St Roch spring. The source of St. Roch remains well known and appreciated; it seems to be frequented for no particular reason, even though it used to attract stunted and crippled people.

The bypass: It ensures the hydraulic transfer of sand from the north beach to the south beaches. A first in Europe. It works thanks to a powerful hydro ejector using clear water under pressure to disintegrate the sand. The extraction is carried out by a pipe passing under the Boucarot channel and under the boulevard of the seafront.
