150 km from Sanguinet to Tarnos - A crossing which passes by the seaside resorts of the Landes: Mimizan, Saint-Girons, Vieux-Boucau, Hossegor... A path which crosses the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean, pine forests, fresh water lakes... It is also on this way that you will cross the most people in summer season.

With this discovery trail, go to the emblematic sites of Sanguinet in all seasons. 9 themes are proposed.

The lake of Cazaux is the third largest natural freshwater lake in France, straddling the departments of Gironde (Pays de Buch) and Landes (Pays de Born). The lake is part of the network of "Natura 2000" wetlands of the back dunes of the Born and Buch countries. Enclosed between the forest and the lake, the Nautical Halt of Cazaux will charm you with its small marina and its captaincy. Picturesque place, it is very appreciated for its calm and its conviviality. The Balades à Roulettes ®(BR®) are short, quiet walks, with a stroller or a small bicycle, or adapted for people with reduced mobility (in a wheelchair), proposed by the French Federation of Hiking of the Gironde.

Pleasant circuit, you will cross the districts in Chon, Mayotte, le Frézat. The paths are shaded, sandy passages on the edge of the lake, nice viewpoints, flat ground all along the route.

Time: 2h45 Pedestrian, Mountain bike Road signs: Green signs, White markings Difficulty: ** (medium) Distance: 11 kms Map IGN 1339 and TOP 25 Directions: Depart from the parking lot at Navarrosse harbour D5 (located on the map at J7/8,) the hiking trail sign is located in front of the municipal marina. Depart from the end of the camper parking lot, follow the fence of the Lou Galip 1 camp site. Turn left at the angle of the fence, follow the path until you reach the Roseaux path and proceed to the intersection of the Mayotte 2 path. Turn right and follow the road D 333 for 25 meters, then enter trail on your left and stay on trail for 200 meters. Turn left 3 into wooded area and head towards Frézat. Cross the road 4 and continue on the Frézat path (DFCI 221) until you search the new ditch, cross over the ditch and continue straight. Cross over the commune’s ditch continue until ditch 5, turn left and proceed to the lake. Adjacent to the hunter’s hut , admire the vegetation along the waterfront. The point of view of the marshlands is superb, as well as the reeds (Biscarrosse lake / Cazaux / Sanguinet.) Make a 180° turn and take the first path on your right. Follow the path along the lake for 1,25 km until the new ditch 6. Turn right before the ditch and proceed to the lake (magnificent view of the lake.) Make a 180° turn at the little bridge, take the path on the right alongside the marsh and lake, after having crossed the ditch. Pass between the Mayotte camp site and the camp site harbour and proceed straight until Navarrosse D5 marina. The numbers 1 through 6 are markers on the trail map

Beautiful walk. Numerous viewpoints in particular on the bay of Ispe. Course in undergrowth and on the bank of the North lake (lake of Biscarrosse-Cazaux-Sanguinet). Hut of resin trees. Some passages in the sand.

Take the road in front of you, your back towards the lake, then take the first street along the “canalot”. Cross the canal using the ramp. Continue until the lakes road and cross it 1. Take a left onto path that follows the road and cross it 1. Take a left onto path that follows the road for 100 meters and go up the 1-st sandy path on the right. Follow the Pétanque street. At the crossroad 2, take a left onto the limestone path. Pass under the electric lines and continue until the dry lagoon. Take, before the lagoon, the first path on your right. Continue until the Fabre cabin (tree resin tapper’s cabin,) 3. Leave the path on your left and follow the winding course until the electric line follow it on the right for 100 meters. Turn left passing under electric line. Continue on the path (do not take any of the small paths on your right) until Ispe 4. Circuit is winding and shaded. Magnificent view of the bay. Cross the road, turn right and stay on the lake shore heading towards Navarosse. Head alongside the bike path for 300 meters and continue your trail along the beach until canal 5 follow the canal in order to reach the ramp on your left, cross the ramp and continue straight along the “Canalot”, and make an immediate left in the direction of “la Régie” of the harbour D5. The numbers 1 through 5 are markers on the trail map

A 6 km route that runs along part of the Transaquitain Canal. This canal, created in 1834 by bankers from Bordeaux, was dug from the Arcachon Basin to Mimizan. It links the three lakes. Calmness guaranteed!

With calm, clear, shallow water, the lake is a safe place to swim for the whole family. Lifeguard on duty from July to September. Analyses of the lake water are displayed at the town hall and in the tourist information office. Pets are not allowed on the beaches or in the lake waters between the Estey harbour and Broustaricq beach from April to September.

Since 1977, the underwater archaeological research carried out at Sanguinet lake has led to the discovery of several residential sites from the Bronze Age to the Gallo-Roman period, complete with ruins (dugout canoes, ceramic and metal furnishings). The Musée Municipal du Lac de Sanguinet invites you to discover the rich, local heritage that was long buried in this unique place.

The Saint-Sauveur de Sanguinet church was built in the mid-nineteenth century where an ancient Roman church once lay. It houses many statues and paintings, as well as a monument to the dead. Built between 1853 and 1856, the church was constructed in a neo-Roman style. There is a bell and courtyard building with three naves. The central nave ends with a choir with two short, straight bays and three-sided apses strengthened by buttresses.

Built in original and traditional wood, this shelter testifies to human activity and navigation on the Gourgue and the lake of Sanguinet. The traditional boats, while remaining in the water, could be parked under this shelter.

The Landes de Gascogne Conservatory is committed to spreading the word about the culture of the Landes de Gascogne. On site, you’ll find a shop selling regional products, including preserved foods, French-made berets, and pine resin jars.

A miraculous fountain with healing virtues for wounds, this element of small vernacular heritage located in a very green humid area invites rest and reflection.

The oldest mention of the existence of the parish of Cazaux is around the year 1200. In 1546, the Cazalins endowed the bell tower of their church with a new bell, now classified as a Historical Monument. In 1849, the Abbot Mouls found on his arrival a dilapidated church isolated from the village by marshes and brushwood. At his initiative, the church, which was then on the dune of the present cemetery, was carried by a sand path, stone by stone, by the inhabitants, with makeshift means, and rebuilt where it stands today.

Motorhomes and recreational vehicles may park in the Pavillon carpark if the Bardets site is full. The Pavillon carpark has restrooms. Motorhome and recreational vehicle parking is regulated around the clock. A fee is charged for parking from 1st May to 31 October. A municipal agent collects the fee on site every morning and evening.
