Camping Municipal La Saucille leisure base in Mugron

Over the course of a day, walk this loop and take a break at the Halco lakes while enjoying the various facilities. Parking in front of the church. Start out on the Halco Lakes Road.

A long stage links Hagetmau, in the south of the Landes department, and Orthez, an emblematic village in Béarn, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Via a succession of country roads, it passes through the villages of Chalosse until it enters Béarn via the crossroads town of Sault-de-Navailles. Portions of the road finally take over and bring you closer to Orthez, a stage of great historical and architectural interest.

Discovery of Chalosse through its natural and historical heritage.

A flat route through the Hinx forest. Be careful, this section of the Adour Trail takes many tarmac roads with little traffic.

A unique walk that leads you to Buglose in the footsteps of the young Vincent de Paul and takes you to the white chalet, passing by the strange ice house and its pond. 2 markings to follow: red on the first part of the circuit and yellow on the second.

A pretty loop with a variety of atmospheres: landscapes of maritime pine groves reminiscent of nearby Chalosse, small oak woods set in meadows, undergrowth crossings in brook-lined valleys.

Discover among the oaks of the Caillan wood, the neolithic funerary monuments. Park in front of the town hall of Fargues and leave the town hall behind, heading east.

Bonnut is very extensive: grouping of the parishes of Saint-Martin and Sainte-Marie de Castagnède. Its border position is visible on the ground by the traces of fortifications (Tarruc de Montargon, Castéra). Bonnut was not part of Béarn under Gaston Fébus, it is a vote of 1855 which definitively attached it to the Basses-Pyrénées.

Ponds, a white path that crosses the water as an invitation to stroll and a soothing nature just a step from the city center ... or when the city moves to the country.

Flat course allowing you to enjoy the banks of the Adour while remaining close to the city.

Here you are in Haute-Chalosse, halfway between Dax and Mont-de-Marsan, bathed by the Adour river. Chantilly Castle was built at the end of the 18th century. It is a capcazalier castle, a property free of rights and not under any lord. Its very sober architecture is characterized by its entrance porch topped by an imperial roof and supported by 2 Doric columns. On the garden side, a horseshoe-shaped staircase adorned with a beautiful wrought iron banister adds a delicate preciousness to this very regular building. Almost nothing remains of the original interior decorations, apart from the general organisation of the rooms, the main stairway and the lounges with wood panelling and polychrome stucco. The old park was redesigned in the 19th century. An 18th century kiosk, of which only the wooden skeleton remains, offers a beautiful view of the Adour. Today, the castle houses the town hall and is not open to visitors. The park has a playground.

The church has a Latin cross plan with a nave, two aisles and an overhanging transept. The four-bay nave is extended by a choir with a straight span and a five-sided apse. Two oriented apsidioles extend the transept The western facade is marked by a bell-tower-porch with a pointed arch portal falling on twin columns. It is flanked by buttresses and surmounted by a first level of twin oculus bays and a second with a single bay. At the top is a double lancet bell tower falling on a small column, topped by a bell-towered spire Each bay of the church opens to the outside through pointed arched windows. The north and south facades of the transept have a portal in pointed arch with scrolls falling on small columns, surmounted by an eight-petalled rose and a bay.

Imagine in the 11th century a vast priory, with dwelling, cloister and church, under the authority of the Abbey of St Sever. All that remains today is a door (cemetery) and the church. The ribbed vaults of the nave and the lower side are decorated with 35 different keystones. Their interpretation is sometimes difficult, like this duck with two heads. In Nerbis in 1569, in the middle of the religious wars, the Protestants, chased by the Catholics, set fire to the church and the priory, melted down the bells, stole the treasure... The cagots, marginalized population, suspected of carrying leprosy lived proscribed and rejected by the populations. ¨Small isolated village with a scattered settlement, Nerbis became a refuge for some. Their condition of pariahs earned them in the church a door and a stoup apart, they can still be seen today on the north wall of the Nave.

On the outskirts of the village of Mugron in Chalosse, discover this beautiful 2,500 seat Lande arena bedecked with flowers, built in 1911. Long before the arena was erected, this spot was already used for courses landaises. Back then, carts were arranged in a circle, for use as benches for spectators watching the competitors try to dodge the horns of bulls or cows (whence the old-fashioned term, “char-à-banc” (literally, “bench cart”)). The arena was formerly known as “the amphitheatre of the course landaise square”. Built using stone from Mugron and Angoulême, it has 400 seats in covered stands. The arena, a stop along Mugron’s heritage trail, still hosts courses landaises in the summertime, for local fêtes. As a curious detail, it has a home built into its outer wall. Bonus: Behind the arena, enjoy a magnificent view of the Adour and its alluvial plains.
