A pretty circuit on Valencogne's plains and its heights which will allow you to have a sight on Vivier's pond and Paladru's town. Starting point at Valencogne's town. Parking below the church. Go up towards the church to le chemin du lavoir. From Valencogne to Gréhaut, this tour follows the GR 65, also called « chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle (Way of Santiago de Compostela)», followed by several thousand pilgrims. This journey will lead you then in front of Vivier’s pond, then on the heights of Paladru and finally, you will go down in the bourbre ‘s valley which one dominates permanently, since Saint-Ondras or Chassignieu. This long trip around Paladru Lake from Charavines is ideal for Ebikes. It explores a wealth of local heritage, visits the east bank of the lake and offers some remarkable views. The itinerary is in the process of being waymarked It starts mainly on quiet country lanes, first heading towards the woodland of the Combettes valley where a hairpin bend leads up to Le Vernay on the Oyeu plateau. After crossing the road (be careful, despite the traffic island!), a pleasant dirt track takes you to the old Carthusian monastery of Sylve Bénite and the tithe barn set amid beautiful meadowland on the edge of the forest. Cross Chassigneux hamlet and the village of Le Pin, where you’ll find a café and a bakery. Just after the village, take the dirt track to Valencogne via the bucolic valley that follows the Le Pin stream. Once past the lovely Vivier lake, take the time to enjoy the panorama from the heights. The spectacle on the horizon encompasses Mont Blanc and the Bauges, Chartreuse and Belledone mountains, if you please! The following descent takes you quickly back to St-Pierre de Paladru and across the Courbon stream which leads to the lake. You’ll then join the cycle path at Chemin de la Véronnière, and the Véronnière picnic area which you'll find at Montferrat. This safe itinerary follows the banks of the blue lake to Charavines via the Bois d’Amour woodland trail which features an eco-friendly drinks/snack bar, and platforms offering panoramic views over the lake, to really finish your excursion in style!

This former outbuilding of the Sylve Bénite Carthusian monastery dates back to 1655. The barn, of impressive dimensions, was used to store the harvest alongside the monks’ in-kind taxes. You'll be surprised by its remarkable structure. This itinerary is a combination of smooth, easy tracks and stony paths, making it ideal for beginners. Stop at the Sylve Bénite monastery for a beautiful view over the of Chartreuse, Vercors and Belledone mountains, not forgetting the Mont Blanc. After the Sylve Bénite monastery, novice mountain-bikers are advised to dismount and descend the stony slope on foot.

It was only during the 19th century, with the discoveries of Ernest Chantre, and the 20th century, with the excavations of Hyppolite Müller, that the history of the first archaeological sites, which emerged from the waters of the lake, was revealed. Over the years, the work of archaeologists escalated and became more specific. It was in 1972 that the archaeological sites of Lake Paladru received both national and international recognition. The lake soon became a site of experimentation for innovative excavation techniques, as well as a unique site in France, for the rarity of its findings. The museum is a history of encounters, sharing, discoveries, secrets and ideas which intertwine in and around the lake. It is also a history of a village and its inhabitants, all of whom, in one way or another, have encountered the lake and its history.
