At the northern end of the Matheysin plateau, this loop offers original views of the capital of the Alps and the surrounding massifs. Journey Departing from Laffrey Plage, head towards Col du Fond des Sciaux via La Pivodière and Aux Allards. Arrived at the Les Bigeards crossroads, follow direction La ferme du Lac Mort, then direction Laffrey via La Fretta, Les Tibanes and Le Mollard. From there, continue by La Croix du Mollard, then back to Laffrey-Plage by Lac Mort, Aux Allards and Pivodière.

Departing from La Motte d'Aveillans, hike towards one of the seven wonders of Dauphiné. From this natural arch which is located on the hill of Creys, discover a superb panorama over the whole of Matheysine. This short, easy hike on the Matheysin plateau takes you to the Pierre Percée, a natural arch located at the top of the Creys hill. This triumphal arch would in fact be a squatting demon, petrified there by the devil for having lost a bet with the Duke of Lesdiguières. From this belvedere, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the whole Matheysine!

This hike will take you to the Pierre Percée, a natural arch situated 1220m above sea level. From there you will be able to enjoy a stunning view of the Matheysine plateau. The route also passes through the forest, which is splendid in the summer.

From La Motte d'Aveillans, this short hike towards Pierre Merlière, a local legend, can be supplemented by a visit to La Mine Image museum. The Legend: The name of Pierre Merlière would come from Merlin the enchanter because the legend says that we practiced human sacrifices on this altar as evidenced by the hollow imprint on the top. Right next to this hollow there is a round shape to accommodate the person to be sacrificed as well as a vertical gutter along the rock to evacuate the victim's blood. But far from all that, we are facing a rock in which several millstones have been cut. We find two in the lower part abandoned during the size following the appearance of a defect, in reality it would seem that a single millstone was extracted from this rock, hence the hollow imprint visible on the top. The rocks likely to give good grinding stones were rare in the region (it needed hardness and sufficient resistance to abrasion to obtain a good grinding wheel) the slightest rock likely to be suitable was immediately exploited to supply the mills of the region . This is how the millstone became the Merlière stone.

This route offers a beautiful view of the Laffrey Lakes. An easy walk that can also be done with the family. Do not hesitate, if the weather allows it, to make a “swimming stop” in the lake.

A short and easy walk that will let you effortlessly discover the hamlet of Le Désert, along with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges. A walk accessible with an all-terrain stroller (AT stroller). Route: Start from the parking area in the center of the resort. Walk towards the “Route du Désert” to reach the beginning of the loop after about 200 meters. There you’ll find signage for “Le Désert.” Follow this path through the meadows until you pass in front of the Grand Rif goat farm. Take the path that climbs to the left into the forest and continue until you reach the hamlet of Le Désert. Enjoy the stunning panoramic view. Then follow a short section of road to the Cochettes ski lift, pass under the lift’s departure station, and take the dirt path that leads back down to the resort. Please note: The section just after the goat farm can be tricky with a stroller. You may need to carry it for about 50 meters.

A beautiful route offering stunning views over the resort, the Grenoble valley, and the surrounding mountains. A small high-altitude lake awaits at the top as a well-earned reward after a solid climb, crystal-clear water and a breathtaking panoramic view! The route begins with a fairly steady climb through the forest. A flatter section then leads to the Louvet Hut and the Cirque du Louvet, a welcome break before climbing again toward Lac de Brouffier. You can refill your water at the fountain near the hut. The ascent, initially steep and wooded, gradually opens up as you reach the Brouffier ridge. The descent, on a steep and technical singletrack, completes the first loop of this figure-eight route. After passing through the Cirque du Louvet again, the descent continues toward the “câblettes” section. Once at the junction with the road to the pass, tired legs may choose to follow the tarmac for a quicker return to the resort. Otherwise, the trail softens before a final effort through the Bois Faudant. The first few meters of the climb at the forest’s edge are relatively gentle. Once out of the woods, the final descent is smooth and easy, revealing a lovely view over the Désert hamlet and the Vercors mountains in the background, a perfect way to end the outing.

Ideal for a first introduction to mountain trail running. A loop mostly through woodland, offering a cool and shaded effort, with beautiful viewpoints along the way. It also provides the opportunity to discover the Cirque du Louvet, a natural treasure far from the crowds. Following the GR50 trail, the climb is fairly steady and serves as the only real challenge on this route. At over 1,400 meters in altitude, managing your effort becomes essential. At the top, a beautiful viewpoint opens up, offering a panorama of the Grand Serre mountain. A magnificent plateau follows, where the surrounding trees form a kind of guard of honor, allowing for a gentle restart. The route then reveals the Cirque du Louvet and its mountain hut. You can refill your water at the fountain near the hut. The loop around the Cirque is mostly flat before giving way to the descent back: a beautiful single track, initially running along the river, with some technical sections. The trail then joins a forest path for a few hundred meters, offering a smoother, more relaxed finish to the Cascade.

Smooth, steady, and shorter than its two “sisters,” the second climb is ultimately the easiest of the three. On the second descent, a small, technical singletrack trail, you may come across other runners making their way uphill. The final climb starts off gently at the edge of the forest, then becomes tougher in the final few hundred meters. Once back in the woods, pay close attention to marked intersections — the route crosses several Bike Park trails. The landscape then opens up, revealing the resort below and signs of life returning just beneath you. The loop finishes gently with a fast and flowing forest road descent, offering glimpses of the Désert hamlet and the Vercors mountains in the distance.

This museum is about the mining exploitation through the visit of the gallery, an exhibition and a film to tell you the story of miners. The anthracite mines from La Motte d'Aveillans created under Napoleon I and closed in 1956 was resurrected in 1986 by the Association Sauvegarde et Mise en Valeur du Patrimoine Mottois.. Several galleries of mineral extraction has been re-worked and open to visit. A guide leads you through authentic galleries where you will follown 2 centuries of mineral exploitation, technics, material from different periods e work conditions of "Gueules Noires" on the Plateau Matheysin where the exploitation was definitively closed in 1997. The exhibtion room of the museum will permit you to discover the Lampistery, the hanged room, day works, social universe of the mines and daily stuff of miners but also some beautiful mineral in the famous "treasure room".

The castle shelters the museum of the French Revolution since 1984. The collections gather pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings. On July 21st 1788, the castle of Vizille entered History. The Etats Généraux of the Dauphiné meeting which had been forbade by Grenoble authorities had been thus sheltered by Claude Perrier. Seduced by the liberal ideas, his castle sheltered this meeting. 187 members of the Tiers Etats, 49 clergymen and 159 noblemen deliberated during 16 hours. In demanding the meeting of the Etats généraux this event is considered to have triggered the Revolution. The Salle du jeu de paume which was the witness of this event have burnt during the fire of 1865. Its implantation is now symbolised by a terrace planted with trees at the entrance of the museum. Laffrey was the theatre the 7th march 1815 of the encounter between Napoleon, back from Elbe island, and the royal army. The site will be named later Meadow of the Encounter. An equestrian statue of the emperor, up to the lake, commemorate this event. A stop to not miss on the Napoleon's road for its storic aspect but also for the panorama offered on Laffrey lake and mountains around. A modest plake fixed on the cemetery wall of the city of Laffrey immortalize the Emperor's words.

The only worship place that still exists on the pass. This is the only worship place that still exists in our village. The inhabitants have built the chapel in 1658 and named it St Anne. On July 26th, St. Anne's day, La Morte is on a festive mood. The very simple chapel has been reduced from 1.50m, for traffic needs in 1945. The chapel is crowned by a bell: It´s easy to imagine the inhabitants of the city getting together near the chapel, called to pray by the bell sound. They must appreciate the few 10 Masses a year celebrated in this place. The other sundays or holidays, they must go to Lavaldens or Moulin Vieux, one hour walk if the weather is good. Inside, the building is quite sober. The altar is not very much elaborated. Above, St Anne's statue instructing Marie, future Christ's mother. There are also several statues of saints and paintings. This chapel dedicated to St. Anne was a place of pilgrimage, to request either rain or sun, depending on the needs. These pilgrimage could attract to 1000 people from all Matheysine plateau, hiking by Grand Rif track (about 3 hours). Depending on the weather, the Mass could take place near the cross at the end of the hamlet. Then they would eat something before going back 2 hours walking.

This campsite is a peaceful and relaxing place surrounded by nature. Located at the starting point of many hiking trails, it is just 100 meters from the beach and features a children's playground as well as a designated beach area for dogs. On a fully enclosed site that was completely renovated in 2016. It is equipped with a waste disposal area for camper vans and offers picnic tables and barbecues. You also have the option to organize your own barbecue on the beach, where fixed barbecues are available.

The accommodation includes a new fully equipped kitchenette, a microwave oven, and a TV with DVD player. The balcony, with garden furniture, offers panoramic views of the Matheysine plateau, its lakes, and the Vercors mountain range. This is an ideal setting for mountain biking, winter sledding, skiing, and snowshoeing. The studio is located at the start of several marked hiking trails (hiking guides available on site). The accommodation has no stairs. Open all year round.

La Ferme de Jonan is a traditional stone farmhouse, fully renovated and converted into two adjoining holiday cottages (gîtes) and two charming guest rooms (bed and breakfast). Each accommodation features a private terrace with garden furniture. The site is certified “Accueil Cavalier” (riders welcome) and “Accueil Vélo” (cyclists welcome). Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by Christina and Frédéric, who will prepare your breakfast each morning with local products, including homemade jams, honey from the farm, and other regional specialties like murçon, diots, and ravioles (available on request, advance booking required). On the ground floor, you’ll find a relaxation lounge and a communal dining area for guests. Upstairs, there are two separate guest rooms, each with its own private bathroom and toilet. Each room includes two 90x200 cm single beds (or one 180x200 cm double bed), a sofa bed, a mini-bar, kettle, and complimentary tea and coffee. Each room can accommodate up to 4 people.
