Discover the Charms of Allemond from Camping Le Plan

Explore the shores of the Lac du Verney as far as the suspended footbridge and on to the Hydrelec museum. On bikes with the children or with a pushchair - it's flat all the way! The circuit goes along the lake (left-hand side), arriving first at the watersports centre (windsurfing, pedal boating and SUP in July and August). Next to the watersports centre, there are picnic tables, a solarium and a children's playground. After the "Guinguette" restaurant on the waterfront, continue on the path to the footbridge over the lake to the Hydrelec Museum, which is really worth a visit. Or continue along the shoreline to the end of the lake. Then you have the choice: -either to head back to the same way -or, at the end of the lake, go through the red gate and up the road for 200m, then take the road on the left, called the "Route du Villaret". Follow it until you reach a small bridge after the hamlet of "La Drayrie". About 100 m after the bridge, go down to the left, follow the stream and go back to the lake shore.

This is one of the most accessible routes in the Massif de Belledone. After a gentle climb up by road, the fast-paced descent is thrilling. With a tried and tested technique, there's nothing to fear. Turn right and follow this road towards the church and then follow signs to La Rivoire, Le Clot and La Traverse. The road is little-used, leading up to the Coteyssart chalets (1304 m) in around an hour. The panoramic view over the Bourg-d’Oisans plain and Les Grandes Rousses will make the time fly by. > Once at the chalets, the Coteyssart descent starts on the right, signposted «Allemond par la Combe», comprising a pleasant series of switchbacks, with some natural banking. It’s a fun, varied ride. > At La Combe, cross the road and follow signs to Le Villaret (GR 549) opposite. This short path passes between gardens and houses (watch out for local residents), before leading down to the road (D43). > On the road, turn left for 150m and go down to the right to join the path back down to the Lac du Verney. > This path offers a pleasant ride alongside the right side of the lake to the car park. > This single track is not too high and on the sunny side of the valley. It is therefore one of the first paths to open in Oisans in the spring (and the last to close in the autumn).

A lovely circular walk in the upper part of Allemond, starting in the old village and continuing to the hamlet of Le Clôt. The route climbs gradually through a pretty forest, with a clearer view in spring. From the church, take the main road past the War Memorial. Go about 100 metres down the road until you come to a hairpin bend, the start of the Chemin de Saint Jean. Follow the signs to "Tour du Clôt" and the red markings. After about 2 km, in a clearing, go up to the right through woods (oaks, beeches and holly trees). Walk through the hamlet of Le Clôt (wash house and old houses). Take the path going back down to Allemont, as far as the Crêt Joré. Join the road and go back down to the church on the Chemin de La Jorre.

Come down off the mountains to visit the Lac du Verney and enjoy a cool bike ride. The views over the surrounding valleys from each side of the lake are always different, A quiet and beautiful ride! ROUTE From Oz station (ski resort), ride down the D44a to Roberand, turn left towards Le Boulangeard, carry on along the D44 to Le Rafour and join up with the D526 that will take you to Allemond. Ride up the lane to Allemond church for lovely views over the lake and surrounding countryside, then go down to the dam to reach the lake and its watersports centre. Take the quiet D43 towards Le Villaret, joining up with the road to the Col de la Croix de Fer, before turning right and riding alongside the lake. You'll see the Hydrelec Museum on your right. This hike gives you panoramic views over the lower part of the Eau d'Olle valley and Bourg d'Oisans. TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Departure: parking lot in the hamlet of La Traverse (Allemond) Height difference: 636 m Duration: 2h outward journey, 1h35 return journey Distance: 2.9 km (one way) Level: moderate (avoid with young children - 2 ravine crossings equipped with handrails) MAP AND TOPO : IGN TOP 25 map n°3335 EST OBP map no. 2 (Oisans au Bout des Pieds): trail 210 ITINERARY: Reach the hamlet of La Traverse (6 km from the bottom of the village) by following the road above the church. Park on the bend after La Traverse. Climb to the Chalanches hut: Take the path opposite the parking lot that enters the woods to reach point 1259 and join the signposted path. Follow it northwards, then fork left at a higher point towards Les Chalanches (signs). Continue along the Chemin de Ferret, which opens out southwards onto the Bourg d'Oisans depression. Carefully cross two ravines (Drayre Grande and Drayre Creuse), the second of which is equipped with a handrail to compensate for its regular erosion. The path continues on a balcony, then forks abruptly to the north and climbs fifty meters to a large flat where the Chalanches hut (1806m) is nestled. The view is open here, offering splendid panoramic views over the plain of Bourg d'Oisans, the Écrins and Grandes Rousses massifs, as well as the austere north face of the cime du Cornillon. You can come back down by the same or another route (210 bis on OBP map no. 2, 1h55 descent). Descent and end of the Chalanches loop: Take the signposted path to the left of the hut (west) and follow it. It descends due south over a number of short switchbacks until you reach point 1297. It then branches off to the east to make the long traverse of the south face of the Chalmettes mountain (Combettes wood) and reach the parking lot. CULTURE : The Mines de Challanches, exploited under Louis XVI, have provided a rare diversity of minerals. These ancient silver mines, located at an altitude of almost 2000 meters, were discovered by a young shepherdess in 1767. They were mined for some thirty years in the 18th century. They were famous at the time, producing up to 600 kg of silver a year. At their peak, they employed around a hundred workers, whose working conditions, given the altitude, were very difficult. The area is considered one of France's most remarkable mineralogical sites, with some sixty species of mineral discovered on site, helping to make the Oisans a world-renowned center for mineralogy.

A lovely walk enabling hikers to discover different stages of vegetation, with a stop off at the Cabane de Chazeau, before arriving at the legendary lake. Brave hikers can go for a swim, but everyone will enjoy this magnificent site close to the Grand Pic de Belledonne. This circular walk takes you up to the Belledonne lake and is one of the unmissable hikes of the Eau d'Olle valley. The scenery is magnificent and untamed, with lovely panoramic views over the Belledonne mountain chain (Croix de Belledonne and Les Sept Laux), the Grandes Rousses and the Massif du Rissiou. The path then goes through pastureland and blueberry bushes, climbing up to the Pas du Bessey. It then goes over a rockfall and up to the lake via some steep switchbacks, before continuing steeply up to the Cabane du Chazeau through a forest of spruce trees, with some lovely views over the Pic Blanc, Pic Bayle and Pic de l'Etendard. The hut is halfway up and always open. The path then opens up, crossing through rhododendron bushes. The start of the walk is in woods, continuing along a balcony path after the Cabane du Chazeau and finishes in a rocky environment. This easy hike, accessible to all, takes place on flat ground, between forest and lakeside. It starts from the hamlet of Le Verney via a Himalayan footbridge and leads to the leisure centre. There are small beaches where you can admire the lake, and benches for admiring the views are also available along the way. Ideal for families with young children, who will appreciate the setting.

Enjoy walking trail, starting from Oz Station. A walk accessible to all. This short circuit under the trees will bring you rest and calm during your stay. You will be able to appreciate throughout the circuit the various points of view on the station and the massif of Belledonne. You might even meet sled dogs! The Auris Nordic domain is 2 sectors for 2 wild atmospheres! With a total of 8 km, the Rochette loop is one of the Alpe d'Huez cross-country skiing itineraries. As for walking and snowshoeing, there are 3 groomed and secure pedestrian trails. SKI DE FOND Concerning the access to this loop of the Rochette, from the resort the most sporty will warm up by climbing the 200 meters of difference in altitude to the pass. For those who prefer to go "easy", the Auris express chairlift will do the job (pedestrian rate). Once at the pass, the cross-country skiers will join the Rochette loop after 2 short kilometres, then they will set off on the 2 km route which winds over a plateau in the hills opposite the Alpe d'Huez resort. Along the loop, pedestrians of all kinds (snowshoes, Nordic walking, walkers) are welcome but must give priority to cross-country skiers who must keep up the pace! The Auris Nordic domain is made up of 2 sectors for 2 wild atmospheres typical of the Oisans and its high mountain spirit. → Piégut sector On the Piégut forest side, the pedestrian route is a must in Auris as it goes into one of the highest spruce forests in Europe. The play of sunlight with the snow-laden branches, the animal tracks and the peaks that reveal themselves as you walk will transport you to Canada... As if you didn't need to go so far, Auris has enough to give you a change of scene. → Maronne / Rochette sector From the resort a route climbs 100m up to the Col de Maronne. This very accessible itinerary is exactly what you need for a short family outing. There are vast expanses of snow all the way up to the plateau and breathtaking views. Here, a little piece of Alaska has been invited into the Alps... The more athletic will only warm up, before continuing for another 2km. From then on, the whole Rochette plateau opens up to you for a wild moment of face-to-face contact with the summits. On the other hand, to reach the latter, those who prefer to go "easy", the Auris express chairlift will do the job! The 2 km loop in itself winds along a plateau in front of the Alpe d'Huez resort. Along the latter, pedestrians are welcome but must give way to cross-country skiers who must keep up the pace! In all, it's an 8 km journey through the fascinating winter landscapes... 8 km that clears the head, lengthens the holidays and makes memories!

Come and admire the exceptional panoramic view from the Pic Blanc over 1/5th of France, as well as the view from Dôme de la Lauze, over les 2 Alpes sur le Pic Bayle, la Meije and la Barre des Ecrins. Reach + cable (DMC 1+2).

At 2100 meters, the refuge of La Pra, close to the many clear lakes of the Massif Belledonne, will delight anglers, hikers and families. La Pra is also a wonderful pasture where you can encounter marmots, wild sheep and ibex. Getting there : 1/ at the car park of Pré Raymond, take the forest road then a trail to the left (southeast). Some laces lead you to an almost horizontal path that allows you to get out of the forest. Cross the stream before reaching the dam and the Lac du Crozet. Follow the path along the lake and walk up the valley of Mercier to the Col de la Pra. At the mountain pass, turn right (south) and get to the refuge located 5 minutes from the Col de la Pra. 2/ In Chamrousse, from the car park at the foot of the Grande Aiguille, follow the GR of Pays then pass between the lakes (path GR 738). Climb back up slightly before descending into the valley of l'Echaillon. Leave on your left the path to the waterfalls of l'Oursière, then on your right the path to the lake David. Climb back to Lake Leama and reach lakes Longet and Claret. Climb to the ledge where you will find the refuge. 3/ At the Recoin de Chamrousse, take the path GR 738 to reach the lakes Robert. The Lac du Verney, between Belldonne and the Grandes Rousses, provides a range of watersports in the summer and is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic with family and friends. It is also the starting point for a lovely walk. The Lac du Verney lake is a 75 ha lake located at an altitude of 725 metres and of variable depth. The dam, which was built between 1979 and 1984, is a hydro-electric power station with its own museum open to the public. Follow the left-hand bank preferably and at the end, follow the road for around 500m, before turning left towards Villaret. Swimming is not allowed.

The history of Allemond has been marked by the mining industry and Alpine agriculture. Vieux Allemond, around the church and along the road leading to the Mairie, still has the traditional characteristics of Oisans villages. Allemond was known for its mining under Louis XIII and XIV, housing royal foundries (behind the tourist office), in which minerals mined around the village, mainly silver, lead and copper, were melted. For many years, the Hotel des Tilleuls (now closed) occupied some of the buildings of the former royal foundry. This hotel, featuring a superb walnut staircase, was bought in the 1920s by a former mayor of the village. His two daughters, Raymonde and Margarete, were well-known local characters who ran the hotel for many years. It was even rumoured that Napoleon III stayed there. Until the 1960s and 1970s, people lived very simple lives, nearly all as farmers. Then at the end of the 1970s, the Grand-Maison dam project was launched, providing a huge economic boost for the village and the region as a whole. The project lasted 10 years and brought many thousands of workers to the area. These days, the village lives mainly from tourism, both in summer and winter.

The church as it stands today celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1987. The former, smaller church however was renovated and extended in 1872, yet 10 years later, the building became was considered dangerous and needed to be rebuilt. The current church has undergone many changes, including a new bell tower, a large clock, a new bell-tower roof, outside walls and the replacement and protection of the stained-glass windows. In 2002, the bell tower was changed as a number of inhabitants wanted to read the clock face from afar and from all sides. The old clock was therefore replaced by an electric, automatic system with 4 huge luminous clock faces. The correct time can now be seen from all four points of the compass, both day and night!

The water sports centre at the Lac du Verney is open in July and August for activities including paddle boats, canoes, sailing dinghies and paddle boards. The lake stands at a 725 m altitude, extends over 75 hectares and is of variable depth. Authorised activities (lifeguard-supervised): windsurfing, canoeing, dinghy sailing, pedal boats. Prohibited activities: swimming, diving, powerboating and jet skiing.

The Musée EDF Hydrélec is the only museum in France dedicated to hydroelectricity. Installed in Oisans, the Musée EDF Hydrélec features a new 900m2 scenographic display that retraces the epic story of the production of hydroelectricity. It pays homage to the scientists, engineers, technicians and manoeuvres that played a role in building the hydroelectric power stations and dams, some of which have become an integral part of our heritage and genuine works of art. Installed in Oisans, in the heart of an area with a long history of hydroelectricity, the Musée EDF Hydrélec has now been awarded the «Musée de France» label. It features a number of unique collections comprising scientific and technical objects from the 19th and 20th centuries. Member of the "Route of the know-how of the Oisans", he organizes the guided tour "Exceptional electricity" on reservation .. The Himalayan footbridge is a recent project straddling the communes of Vaujany and Allemond. You can enjoy some time on the shores of the lake. Swimming is not allowed. A little further on towards the dam is the water sports centre.

Le Verney directly overlooks the lake of the same name which offers a splendid view. The land at the confluence of the Eau d'Olle and Flumet rivers was forested with vernes (a variety of alder). The hamlet takes its name from this tree. The hydrelec factory opens its museum to you. The history of hydroelectricity is presented to you. It is located at the end of the hamlet of Verney, on the lake road. In the hamlet of Verney you will pass by the old school. There was also a bistro which housed the only communication system of the time: the public telephone. In other words, there was no such thing as confidentiality. You had to ring the switchboard at the post office. If the operator was fired, she would call you back and you could ask for the number you wanted. Half an hour later you had the call! At night, if you needed a doctor, you had to wake up the landlord first, and the next day the whole village knew you had scarlet fever. The telephone became widespread in the 1970s.

Below the Contamine, people from the hamlets of Rif jany and Verney were born in the commune of Vaujany and were buried in Oz for convenience. They are called "ecuardas" (several possible spellings). A word that means those who live at the end of the country! This term is found in patois: a cow that breaks its tail is said to be ecuardée. Perhaps this name of the people comes from the fact that they live at the end of the hamlet, the tail of the commune. A little further on: the chamber of the dead, a reference to the place where the victims of the plague were buried in 1630.

Rif jany, takes its name from the stream (rif, a word certainly inherited from the Saracens). One can also read "rif" as Sur la rive. Here, in relation to the great lake Saint Laurent which filled the valley in the 11th century. Above Rif Jany is the hamlet of La Condamine: the origin of this name is to be found in the Middle Ages. At that time, the seigneuries consisted of tenures operated by a tenant and the reserve. The latter is cultivated by the lord or his farmer and is exempt from duties. In the Middle Ages, these reserves were called "Condamines" in the cartularies (collections of copies of acts attesting to the privileges of a person or a community).

Welcome to L'Ile d'Oz, a true piece of paradise perched at an altitude of over 2000 meters, in the heart of the Oz 3300 resort. At 2100 meters, the refuge of La Pra, close to the many clear lakes of the Massif Belledonne, will delight anglers, hikers and families. La Pra is also a wonderful pasture where you can encounter marmots, wild sheep and ibex. Getting there : 1/ at the car park of Pré Raymond, take the forest road then a trail to the left (southeast). Some laces lead you to an almost horizontal path that allows you to get out of the forest. Cross the stream before reaching the dam and the Lac du Crozet. Follow the path along the lake and walk up the valley of Mercier to the Col de la Pra. At the mountain pass, turn right (south) and get to the refuge located 5 minutes from the Col de la Pra. 2/ In Chamrousse, from the car park at the foot of the Grande Aiguille, follow the GR of Pays then pass between the lakes (path GR 738). Climb back up slightly before descending into the valley of l'Echaillon. Leave on your left the path to the waterfalls of l'Oursière, then on your right the path to the lake David. Climb back to Lake Leama and reach lakes Longet and Claret. Climb to the ledge where you will find the refuge. 3/ At the Recoin de Chamrousse, take the path GR 738 to reach the lakes Robert. the Plateau of Le Fourchu, where sleep a hundred lakes, lies at 2000 meters above sea level. Its endemic flora and fauna readily recall the northern tundra landscapes. The refuge is located in this unique setting; the path accessible for all ages. Please note: this site has been awarded the Natura 2000 label and is subject to numerous measures to preserve its biodiversity. We therefore invite you to adopt the right reflexes when you come to protect this sensitive area. The landscape here is reminiscent of the northern tundra, dotted with a myriad of small lakes and frog pools. Some of these lakes contain fossilized tree trunks in their sediments, testifying to the presence of the forest here 6,000 years ago. The entire plateau is classified Natura 2000, the European network of remarkable natural environments. Come and enjoy the panoramic view of the Oisans mountains from the orientation table 50 m from the refuge.

Situated in the heart of the Belledonne massif on the GR 738, the Habert d'Aiguebelle refuge (1,735 m) was completely renovated in 2017 from an old building that was once used as a sheepfold.

The Les 7 Laux refuge sits on an island at an altitude of 2,135 m, surrounded by the Rocher Blanc and the Pic de la Belle Etoile, and the clear blue waters of 12 mountain lakes. Getting there : By Belledonne, two routes are possible among others to access the refuge: Fond de France or Le Pleynet. After Allevard les Bains, direction Fond de France or Le Pleynet. At Fond de France, the trail starts in the car park next to the gîte l’Essentiel. At Le Pleynet take the forest road at the end of the car park (the one up). A lovely mountain hut near Mizoën at an altitude of 1515 m. A stopover on the GR50 54C tour of the Ecrins and the start of numerous hikes on the Emparis plateau. Close to the petrifying Cascade de la Pisse waterfall, the via ferrata and a climbing route. Superb views of the Meije. From the car park at Les Aymes, follow the path marked in red and white (variant of the GR 54 path): the balcony trail makes its way above the Lac du Chambon before climbing up across the meadows. From there, hikers can either follow the discovery trail to the right that joins the refuge (adding ½ hour) or carry straight on to Les Clots. The walk and hut have been awarded the "Espit Parc" label and are perfect for families and people looking for peace and quiet and to reconnect with their inner selves! Along the way, and near the refuge, depending on the time of your visit, you may see marmots, chamois and butterflies, and depending on the season, feast your eyes and nose with lavender and orange lilies. You’ll also have a chance to admire the waterfalls above the hut, gushing out of a petrified fountain, forming lumps of tuf. The site is under a biotope protection order, so please stay on the path to avoid damaging this geological wonder.

Located at an altitude of 2268 m, a 3-hour walk from Villard Notre Dame, this south-facing unsupervised mountain hut sits above the Torrent du Vallon stream. It is on the path leading up to the top of Le Rochail. Authentic and rustic, this small 20 m² hut sleeps six in the most basic of comforts. It has 6 mattresses, blankets, a table and benches. A visitor's book is provided, where you can leave comments about your hike, your night and your experience! The Refuge des Sources can be a stop-off point on the way to the summit, during a long hike or simply because you would like to spend the night in the mountains.
