This route is temporarily closed. No one would suspect that under the transparent waters of the Hostens Lake was one of the largest deposits of lignite in the early 1930s. This itinerary allows you to approach the secret and magical environment of the "lagoons", small circular bodies of water of glacial origin. Around the Gât Mort, the forest opens up onto an area of open moorland vast enough to evoke the landscapes of centuries past. The nearby water table allows some of these lagoons to maintain a small water level throughout the year, but not exceeding one metre. The route, marked out by a few observatories, allows an overall reading of the vegetation.

Le Barp is located on the Grandes Landes road linking Bordeaux to Spain. Itinerary of the King's Post Office network in the 16th century and on the route of the Roman road known as "Camin Roumieu" which designated the path in patois and which linked Bordeaux to Dax. A stopover on the road to Santiago de Compostela since the 11th century, the town has developed around the Relais Hospitalier and the Priory.

On the tracks of the Haureuils district. A well preserved local know-how. The district has interesting and typical heritage elements of the Haute Lande Girondine such as Landes barns, sheep pens in Barat-Neou but above all a well marked local know-how with the Dubourg establishments, known as the Grès de Gascogne, installed in the heart of the forest for more than 150 years, close to a clay deposit of an exceptional fineness which has existed for millions of years. They produce paving stones and ceramic tiles but also this famous resin pot called "Hugues pot" And on the way to the bakers, the family bakery "Le fournil d'Albert" is the witness of another time. Patrick Bordessoules and his sister, Corinne, have reopened the bakery in memory of their grandfather, keeping the old-fashioned method.

Le Barp is located on the route des Grandes Landes linking Bordeaux to Spain. It is crossed by the Itinerary of the King's horse mail network in the 16th century and on the route of the Roman road known as "Camin Roumieu" which designated in patois "the road" linking Bordeaux to Dax. A stopover on the road to Santiago de Compostela since the 11th century, the village developed around the Relais Hospitalier and the Priory. It is an important post office on the Spanish road which crosses the parish from north to south: it is the fourth station of the horse post after Gradignan. The commune has interesting and typical heritage elements of the Haute Lande Girondine such as barns ? the Landes barn located in the village of Peilhe, a sheep pen in Barat-Neou, a tradition of ceramics with the Grés de Gascogne in the Haureuils district.

The town of Barp is a stopover on the way to Santiago de Compostela! Every year and this since the 10th century, many people called pilgrims start their walk from the city of Tours in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, and they stop at Barp to rest.

A young river from a geological point of view, the Leyre carries sand which accumulates in the meanders. Canoeing offers a chance to discover this rich and fragile natural area. Here we propose a route from Saugnacq-et-Muret to Salles via Belin-Beliet. The regulation imposes to all the practitioners to know how to swim before leaving to navigate in canoe. This activity is offered to children who swim, accompanied by their parents, from 6 years old. A great and beautiful day, rather for an initiated profile. The Sablère, located between Bordeaux and Arcachon, is a 19th century-like Basque house. It is in the centre of a 2-hectare park in the Landes de Gascogne (protected natural area). A road to Santiago de Compostela shares boundary with it. Only silence and nature are kings here. A VIP room! You will be our only guests. The "hazel" room is pretty and bright, with 2 twin beds, decorated with family furniture and facing East with a view over the park without buildings directly opposite. The Domaine Départemental de Sports et de Loisirs Gérard Lagors in Hostens is a 600-hectare estate equipped for exploration of the natural milieu and for a range of outdoor leisure activities (including mountain biking, canoeing, archery, climbing, tennis and bathing). The beach is supervised from June to September. The estate also offers visitors a chance to try their hand at its “Escalad’arbres” – a mixed, removable forest trail made up of ropes and cables. Qualified supervision from April to October.

Following the takeover of the churches by the communes, the church of Saint-Jean was abandoned and destroyed. The one that stands today, rather simple and similar to the church of Cabanac, dates from 1879 but keeps its bell, a painting and an original peg.

It's a ?cabin? that blends perfectly into the forest environment, to the point of being practically invisible. After watching an educational film and chatting with a ?Paloumayre?, you visit the various strategic areas of the palombière. The "Oueyte" is explained to you, so you can spy on the arrival of the flights, the decoys, the ground, and so on. At the end of your visit, you'll have the opportunity to share a snack or Gascon meal with the ?Paloumayre?

This very simple Gothic chapel, dedicated to Saint Catherine, is located in the Rétis district of Hostens, on one of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. The shape of the façade is that of a simple bell-tower-wall above which the old bell was housed, protected by a double wooden bellringer's shelter.

A wash house, located in the village of Cabanac et Villagrains, next to the church, is supplied with drinking water.

The church, located on a small mound in the heart of the village, overlooks the wash house which is fed by a drinking water source where many people still come to get water because it is said to be fresh and light.

Although there is only one town hall and more than one school group, everything is duplicated in the commune: two wash houses, two prisons, two village halls and two churches: Saint Martin de Cabanac, which is a Romanesque church in its rear part and contains a remarkable Way of the Cross and magnificent stained glass windows, and Saint Jean de Villagrains Today, there are only remains of this village, only one partially destroyed house remains. The church was dismantled, the houses collapsed and the cemetery disappeared under the vegetation. In 1879, the church that had been abandoned was rebuilt in the present village of Villagrains. Only a bell dated 1544 still remains. The two main current economic resources of this forested commune are the wood industry and gravel extraction.

Curiosity has always been on two mounds at the entrance to the village of Cabanac. This heap of earth and stones still keeps its secret as to its origin.

An old small farm in the Landes region that we're renovating. You will find a permaculture garden and some seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as herbal teas.
