This walk will take you through the pretty little hamlets of Montardit and you'll discover the unusual little chapel of Notre Dame de la Goutte. This curious little chapel, worthy of a surrealist sculptor, was built in 1968 by Abbé Jean-Marie Piquemal and has become a place of pilgrimage during the liturgical feast of Notre-Dame des Sept Douleurs on 15 September. The place exudes a kind of peacefulness and quiet strength.

Departing from the small village of Contrazy, this pleasant hike will take you between forest and open views, to contemplate the hills of the foothills topped by the Pyrenean massif. This walk will take you to the highest point in the Volvestre Ariègeois at an altitude of 698 m (signposted). This walk begins on a very pretty path leading up to the ‘old canton of St Girons’. As you follow this boundary, you'll be treated to a beautiful panoramic view of the hilly commune of Montesquieu-Avantès and its farms scattered throughout the landscape. At the end of the forest (marked by a milestone), you will know that you are at the meeting point of three cantons, Le Mas d'Azil to the east, St Girons to the south and Ste Croix to the west, and four communes, Camarade, Montesquieu-Aventès, Contrazy and Mauvezin de Ste Croix. On the way back to Contrazy, just before the village, you'll discover a magnificent view of Lasserre and the Pyrenees, overlooking the church at Montardit. You can also enjoy a view of the fir forest, which in autumn offers a patchwork of colours from the dark green of the firs to the shimmering colours of the broad-leaved trees.

The road to freedom is a historic route. The Couserans, which borders Spain, has been a strategic crossing point since time immemorial, particularly during the darkest hours of our history. History of the road to freedom : After the German offensive of May 1940 and the division of France into two parts occupied zone in the North and a free zone in the South, many civilians and soldiers, fleeing a world of persecution, imprisonment and executions that was inseparable from Nazi barbarism, took refuge as soon as they could in this free zone, synonymous with hope. Their common denominator was the vital need to leave France and reach Spain by crossing the Pyrenees, either simply out of an instinct for survival, or to resist inexorably the unbearable oppression. Nearly 3,000 people - 2,506 men and 158 women - crossed the Spanish border through the Couserans during the Second World War. Among the various routes, one of the most emblematic and representative is the Chemin de la Liberté, already mentioned above, linking Saint-Girons to Sort across the Pyrenees, via Mont-Valier.

This pretty loop takes you through the woods and meadows of the Couserans region, where you can admire beautiful views of the border chain and some fine barns. A beautiful loop around the village of Moulis in the Castillonnais valley. - After the parking lot, turn right and then straight on up Rue de la Hount. You will pass by the Pouech castle and wash-house. - Continue uphill, following the yellow signposts, which branch off to the left as you climb up to the Granges de Paracoch at 672 m. From here, you can take in the view of the high peaks of the Couserans. - At the junction of the 2 barns, take the path down to the left. Halfway down the slope, at the crossroads, follow the yellow signs to Pouech, crossing the old farming terraces. Follow the path downhill, catching a track on the left and the road that takes you back to Pouech, passing a maginette (small oratory dedicated to the Virgin Mary).

The Tour Sainte Catherine offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Balaguères valley and the high peaks of the Castillonnais. This vestige, visible from afar, is the only evidence of a castral dating from the 12th to 13th centuries.

Nestling in a small valley in the Pyrenean foothills between Foix and Saint-Girons, Combelongue Abbey and its gardens, which have been awarded the Jardin Remarquable label, offer the charm and prestige of a place steeped in history. Founded in 1138 by the Count of Pallars, Combelongue Abbey is the only Romanesque abbey in the Couserans region. It is one of the jewels in the crown of the region's heritage. Its Mudejar-influenced architecture is exceptional on this slope of the Pyrenees, and the sculpted decoration is pure and symbolic. Contemporary stained-glass windows adorn the abbey church.

Plus bas, à l'intersection avec une piste plus large, tournez à gauche et redescendez en direction de la route goudronnée en bas du chemin de croix.Alternative : possibilité lorsque vous êtes à la chapelle, de redescendre vers votre véhicule en empruntant la route goudronnée qui suit le calvaire. A la croix VII, vue panoramique sur le village de Valentine, la centrale EDF, le lac de Sède.

This artistic project was born out of the desire of the ‘Food’ collective of the Bouche A Oreille cooperative to bring art to the ‘village kitchen garden’. The idea was not just to bring gardeners, villagers and visitors into contact with artistic works, but for them to be a vehicle for questioning and reflecting on the environment in which they are displayed: the kitchen garden. The artistic work of Coline Vergez, scenographer, is always a witness to the environment in which it takes place. She seeks to highlight and question it, while integrating her pieces within it. In this way, the works fit into a logic of harmony between materials, images that make sense and/or their utility. She created her first work ‘MMMMH!’ in the village of Simorre, as well as 5 ½uvres that make up the Sentier à p'Art - a 4km walking trail starting from Simorre based on the principle of Land'Art. ‘In this project, I want to remain faithful to this way of working and propose works that are fully integrated into the intention of the vegetable garden; that respect its gesture, reveal it and serve it. My artistic approach is intended to be accessible to everyone, in a language that is clear and easy to understand, and that does not compartmentalise. I want to speak to everyone and I want my work to speak to everyone". A little corner of the kitchen or...behind the scenes of life. This first work, installed in May 2020, highlights a central element of the kitchen that plays as essential a role in the processing of food as it does in that of the people who live there: its table. ‘I chose it for its most basic function. It's the heart of the kitchen, the place where food is cut and chopped, de-boned, sorted, cleaned, weighed, pressed... The place where food becomes a meal. But it's also the place where people reveal themselves, alone or to each other. I love the idea that a single edge of the kitchen table could have witnessed the birth of love, the passing of culinary or family secrets, the tearing apart of people, the making of major decisions, the creation of projects, the growth of children, the sharing of desires... No matter how insignificant, this little corner of the table works on living things, transforms them and makes them evolve. Its scale has been enlarged to emphasise its importance, but also to make it a useful structure in the vegetable garden. Both the chair and the table can accommodate climbing plants and cucurbits, and their heights allow the gardener to pick fruit with ease, while creating a shady spot in summer. In winter, the table is covered in strips of woollen fabric coloured with plants from the garden or picked nearby. Artistic structures for kitchen use. Un petit coin de cuisine ou...les coulisses de la vie’ is part of an overall concept that will see other installations created in the same spirit. The idea is that each artistic installation should be made up of three essential elements: it should provoke questioning, it should be useful and it should be legible. These elements will be developed in different ways for each piece. In this context, Coline's work will question what is not visible to the naked eye: the purpose of market gardening (for what purpose do we cultivate, how do we transform what grows there, what is the future of what we create there? etc.) or will highlight the invisible but essential players in the life of the vegetable garden (its microcosm: earthworm, beetle, lucanus, dragonfly, etc.). The works will all have a real function within the garden, whether in the gardening process, in providing amenities for native flora or fauna, or in improving the living spaces for gardeners or visitors. This work will be aimed at a lay audience and is intended to speak to everyone. Each person will interpret the works in their own way, depending on who they are and what their artistic background is, but the creations will use a very direct and clear visual language. To facilitate this, humour and paradox will be used to demystify art and make it accessible to everyone.

You can visit the vegetable garden at Le Bouche à Oreille restaurant, to the delight of young and old alike! Le Bouche à Oreille (‘BAO’ for those who are used to it) is a SCIC, a not-for-profit structure, bringing together more than 120 cooperators around 4 colleges: 1- Food, from the vegetable garden to the plate. 2- Culture and popular education. 3- Development of local economic initiatives. 4- Ethics and transmission, which drives the project's democracy. In addition to delicious meals and cultural events throughout the year, Le Bouche à Oreille has created its own vegetable garden in the village of Simorre. Situated along the footpaths, the kitchen garden is open to the public and allows visitors to discover the many and varied vegetables, herbs and edible flowers that have been carefully cultivated to create the sublime menus proposed by chef Séverine. The kitchen garden is accessible by a few wooden steps from a footpath, and is open to the curious. The names and varieties of the plants are listed on small slates that sometimes reveal surprises. Take your time on site, as wooden chairs and tables have been set up for resting, picnicking, chatting, watching the frogs or admiring the portraits of the women vegetable gardeners! The ‘Structure artistique à utilité potagère’ project was born out of a desire on the part of the BAO's ‘Alimentation’ collective to bring art to the ‘village kitchen garden’. Right next door to their old-fashioned house is the nursery where Claudine and Charles will welcome you to their camping-garden, a haven of greenery and calm, ideal for a relaxing vacation and to recharge your batteries. The camping-garden has 12 pitches of 80 to 100 m2, grassy, flat, shady and bordered by flowering hedges (over 300 species or varieties of ornamental plants or fruit trees). We specialize in old varieties of southwestern fruit trees and apple juice production. Claudine and Charles also offer 2 traditional tepee accommodations.

In the heart of the Pyrenees, at the end of the Couserans, in the Biros valley, at an altitude of 1000m, on the GR10, the Eylie stopover gîte welcomes all overnight hikers. Sleeping capacity is 14 in 2 dormitories. Meals available on a 1/2-board basis. Please bring a sleeping bag or comforter for the dormitory. Pets are not allowed.

The Étang d'Araing refuge is a refuge in the French Pyrenees, situated at an altitude of 1965 m in the extreme south-west of the Ariège department, at the foot of the Crabère peak, on the GR10.

The refuge is located in the Mont Valier nature reserve, an iconic Couserans peak in the heart of the Ariege Pyrenees Regional Nature Park. In the midst of this unspoilt, wild mountain landscape, after a 4-hour walk along the cross-border GR from the Pla de La Lau car park, we welcome you to the ‘Les Estagnous’ mountain refuge. As soon as you arrive, you can introduce yourself to the warden(s) and discuss the ‘welcome arrangements’ (obviously you have booked your overnight stay and/or meals in advance). Once you've had a rest and taken in the exceptional views, you'll go through the hikers‘ entrance to settle in according to the wardens’ advice and, last but not least, you won't miss dinner! There's just one service for everyone, at 7pm! There are many hiking itineraries and multi-day tours. Summits, lakes and valleys offer a wealth of choices, not forgetting the summit of Mont Valier, just 1? hours from the refuge.

Cottage for 4/6 people in the countryside Discover our 60 m² cottage where we will welcome you in a warm atmosphere and a relaxing scenerey in the middle of nature. 2 bedrooms, including one with a double bed (140) and one with 2 small adjustable beds (90). A convertible sofa in a living room that can host two more people. The bathroom is equipped with a double-jet shower, a WC and a sink. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped to prepare your meals with a wide dining table to enjoy pleasant moments. The dining room is luminous, has a convertible sofa, a TV, books, and boardgames for kids. The cottage is 60 m² in the middle of our 9000 m² property, away from the landlords house. We are at the end of the way without neighbours and surrounded by the countryside. You will enjoy a private outdoor terrasse without an overlooked garden view and a plancha. On sunny and warm days, enjoy our 10 x 4 salty swimmingpool, shared by the cottage and the yurt, alarm secured. Baby’s equipments are available on request. Explore our 3.5 hectares woods during peaceful promenades in the nature. On site, a number of activities are available : trampoline, table tennis tables, pétanque balls, badminton, balls, books, boardgames. Hens and goats are on the property, the landlord can take your kids to feed them. Non-smoking cottage (ashtrays available outside) Parties are forbidden.
