ViaRhôna, from Saint-Gilles to Aigues-Mortes. Between Saint-Gilles and Gallician, the provisional itinerary enters the Camargue Gardoise Grand Site de France and takes you to the Centre du Scamandre. At Gallician, near the marina, you join the greenway that takes you through the Camargue Gardoise and its exceptional flora and fauna. You'll follow the old towpaths of the Rhône-Sète canal through the marshes before reaching Aigues-Mortes, a fortified town surrounded by marshes, vineyards and salt marshes. Don't miss the view from the Tour Carbonnière to better understand this extraordinary landscape. From Gallician, two loops linked to the Vauvert - Gallician greenway will enable you to discover the surrounding countryside between vineyards, marshes and reeds.

A circuit in the heart of the villages and hamlets of Camargue, close to one of the last marshy islets located in agricultural zone. From the place of the primary school of Albaron, go to the right on the D37 for 1 km, towards Saliers. Turn left towards the Maison du riz and Mas de la Vigne on the Figares road for 9 km. 1 - At the junction of the D572, turn left towards the bridge then cross the Petit Rhône. Enter the Gard department. Continue for 400 m. Turn right towards the D179 towards Fourques. Cross the railway and then take the path on the left. Continue for 1.5 km and cross the canal. Recover avenue Emile Cazelles right, pass the bullring of Saint-Gilles. 2 - At the intersection with Chanzy Boulevard, turn left. Cross the Canal du Rhône at Sète. Continue on the D6572, the road of Arles on 1.5 km. Cross the Petit Rhône again. Leave on the left the Hotel de Cabanettes then turn to the right on the D37 towards Saliers and Albaron then continue for 1 km. 3 - After the Saliérène manade, take the road on the left. Pass through the Saliers hamlet and turn left after the church. Retrieve the D37 on the right, then join point 1. In point 1, join the start of the ride by the same route taken one way.

Take the dike and follow the Petit-Rhône along the water, one of the two arms of the Rhône From the rest area of ??Paty-de-la-Trinité, head towards the Petit-Rhône and take the dike on the left which runs along the Petit-Rhône for 12 km. 1 - At the Sylvéréal Bridge, make a U-turn to return to the rest area of ??Paty-de-la-Trinité.

This trail offers a real presentation of the natural environments of the Camargue related to water, you will travel in unique landscapes ! With your back to the Camargue Museum, start the ride on the left. Walk along the Rousty canal for more than 1 km. 1 - Go to the right and continue for 600 m. 2 - at the intersection of the two paths, turn to the left. 3 - Turn left at the footbridge to discover the reed bed. Walk the bridge to the point of view and retrace your steps. In point 3, turn left to reach the observatory. Then retrace your steps and in point 2 continue straight. 4 - At the intersection of the two paths, follow the path on the right and then return to the Camargue Museum.

From the Van Gogh bridge, the ViaRhôna itinerary takes the direction of the Rhône delta on a beautiful greenway along the canal from Arles to Fos. In Port Saint Louis du Rhône, a bicycle path will lead you to the Napoleon beach for a well-deserved swim. At Mas Thibert, don't miss an excursion to the Vigueirat marshes.

Travel by VTC the last stretch of the ViaRhôna, along the Rhone River between Arles and the Mediterranean Sea. From the Van Gogh Bridge, head towards the bike lane towards Port-Saint-Louis Mas-Thibert. Go along the canal from Arles to Bouc This route is an old railway line rehabilitated. 1 - In Mas-Thibert, continue straight, follow the sign ViaRhôna. VARIANT : At Mas-Thibert, turn left, cross the bridge and then turn right towards the Vigueirat marsh. Continue on the bike path. In the Vigueirat Marshes, return to the village of Mas-Thibert. Retreat the bridge and head to the left. Follow the ViaRhôna. 2 - At the wind turbines, continue to the right and continue until the D35. 3 - At the intersection with the D35, turn left and turn right towards Salin-de-Giraud. 4 - At the Barcarin ferry boat, take the foot of the dike on the left. Follow this path for 4 km along the Bois François area. 5 - On arrival at Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, pass the barrier then take the path on the right. Follow the indications "parcours santé" Bois François along the banks of the Rhone. Cross the small blue bridge and go to the first street on the right towards Napoléon beach. Continue along the Anatole France Avenue along the Rhone and continue straight on Napoleon Road for 6.5 km to the beach.

How to get there ? • From the Arles Tourist Office located Boulevard des Lices, take the bicycle lane that passes in front of the bandstand, walk along Bd Clémenceau, cross the Sixte Quenin car park (P3), cross the Arles canal bridge at Bouc and walk along the canal (which must always stay on your left), always taking the bike path up to the Van Gogh bridge. • From the Youth Hostel: free parking along Avenue du Maréchal Foch on the edge of the Fournier stadium. Practically opposite the Youth Hostel, on the edge of rue Germaine Richier, the old SNCF track has been converted into a bicycle path. A sign indicates the direction of the Van Gogh Bridge. Just after the old SNCF bridge, turn left onto the cycle path that runs along the Arles à Bouc canal to the Van Gogh bridge.

From the Tourist Office, turn left on Boulevard des Lices then turn right on Gambetta street towards Trinquetaille. Cross the Rhône and continue towards Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. 1- At the roundabout, take the C108 direction Gimeaux. 2- Turn left after the arena and follow the C113 "Palunlongue path". 3- At the crossroads of the D37, turn right for 500 m then turn right on the C118 road to the Saliers hamlet. 4- At the junction of the D572, turn right towards Arles for 500 m. Take on the left the road from Cazeneuve to Rigaudon. 5- At the old railway line, take the road opposite. 6- At the junction, cross the railway and take the VC105 "Chemin des Prêcheurs" on the right. At the stop turn right. 7- At the stop, turn left on the old road to Saint-Gilles, direction Trinquetaille.

Back to the Arles Tourist Office, turn left on boulevard des Lices then turn right on Gambetta street towards Trinquetaille. Cross the Rhone via the Pont de Trinquetaille and continue towards Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer by the streets of the Camargue and the Verrerie. Continue for 1.5 km on the Avenue de la Camargue. At the roundabout, take the C108 direction Gimeaux. Continue on the road to Gimeaux for 3 km. 1- Turn left towards the arenas. Turn left on the C112 after passing the arenas. 2 - Take a right onto the D570 and continue for 250 m. Head to the left on the Dougue road (C125). Continue straight for 1.5 km. 3 - Turn right on the C154, then at the junction, continue on the small path of Sainte-Cécile. Continue towards the Vaccarès pond 4 - Take a right on the intersection with the D37. Continue for 250 m to the observation point of the Mas Neuf Vaccarès set up by the Camargue Regional Natural Park. Go back to step 4. Stay on the D37 towards Arles, for more than 6 km. In Villeneuve, continue straight. 5 - Turn left in the bend, 500 m after the restaurant "Chez Bob", on the road to Romieu (C132). 6 - Continue on the left at the intersection with the Azegat road (C133) for 2 km. Then turn left towards Gageron. At Gageron, continue on the C130, for 8 km 7 - At the junction with the path (C131) of Sainte-Cécile, keep right on Route de Bouchaud and continue straight for 3 km to point 3. Join Arles by the D570 then by Gimeaux on the same route as the outbound.

The 34 m2, 4-person "Le Castellas" gîte comprises a main room with a sitting area and fully-equipped kitchen, a bedroom with a 140 cm bed and a 90 cm bed, a bathroom with walk-in shower and raised toilet, and easy access for strollers and wheelchairs. Linen included, cleaning optional, parking in front of gîte. Child's chair and cot available on request. Rental by the night or week, preferential rates for pilgrims. Once a popular destination for pilgrims from all over the world, the monument is now listed as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela in France" series. Take the time to admire its sculpted façade, an authentic masterpiece of Romanesque art. You will find a frieze with an iconography dedicated to the Passion of Christ. Discover its monumental crypt, a real low church. Exceptional for its size and the quality of its vaults, it still contains the tomb of Saint Gilles. The abbey is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Saint-Gilles, gateway to the Camargue, is located on the Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle, this is the first step on the way to Arles. Since 1998, the abbey church of Saint-Gilles is a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the Chemins de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. The old medieval center confirms the rich heritage of Saint-Gilles. Because of its geographical position, between the hillsides of Costières and Camargue, the landscapes that surround the city are changing.

The Petit-Rhône is an arm of the Rhône delta which marks the administrative boundary between the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Occitanie regions, between the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Gard, and more symbolically between the Camargue gardoise and the great Camargue. It separates from the Grand Rhone north of Arles to reach the Mediterranean Sea near Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. The Petit-Rhône is recognized as an important site for the recovery of migratory fish.

The road to Santiago de Compostela recalls the apostle James (present during the life of Jesus) who was beheaded around 41-44. It was not until the reign of Charlemagne and Alfonso II the Chaste (759-842) that his tomb was discovered. Many faithful pay homage to him on this road. The Via Tolosana from Arles is one of the four routes to the Tomb of Santiago.

Traditional home of guardians of Camargue, the hut has whitewashed walls and a roof of sagne (reeds marshes). The architecture of these cabins is original : straight walls on all sides except the one exposed to the mistral (north-west) which is in apse (of rounded form) to offer less catch in the wind. At the top of this apse, there is usually a form of cross or horn that used to stow the cabin on the ground during windy days.

The name of Saliers (Salliers) comes from the fact that the village was a deposit of salt until 1246. A second etymological hypothesis is based on a Provençal derivative: salo (room, then house, castle). In the Middle Ages, Saliers is one of the largest agricultural estates in the Camargue. Particularly fertile, the whole area was covered with wheat fields, meadows, fruit trees. At this time, les Templiers, then les Hospitaliers de Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem are the lords.

In the greater Camargue, the marais de Saliers represent one of the main zones of marshes and ponds soft or brackish. This Camargue sector fluvio-lacustrine includes a mosaic of natural habitats such as reed beds, typhids, wet meadows, saladella lawns, but also sansouïres and agricultural areas, mainly rice paddies. The cattle industry is also well represented. Les marais de Saliers formerly occupied a large part of the territory.

A memorial was erected in memory of the gypsies locked up in the Saliers camp between 1942 and 1944. They were locked up because the law of April 6, 1940 prohibited the movement of nomads throughout the metropolitan territory for the duration of the war and imposed house arrest.

Lauricet wood is one of the rare wooded areas of the Camargue. The remaining woods are generally along the river, which provides them with the fresh water they need. These woods constitute important habitats for local fauna.

We're delighted to welcome you to one of our two gîtes in the Petite Camargue. A village steeped in Camargue tradition, close to the greenway, beaches, Aigues-Mortes and Nîmes, where you'll find plenty of opportunities for outings and activities. The 34 m2, 4-person "Le Castellas" gîte comprises a main room with a sitting area and fully-equipped kitchen, a bedroom with a 140 cm bed and a 90 cm bed, a bathroom with walk-in shower and raised toilet, and easy access for strollers and wheelchairs. Linen included, cleaning optional, parking in front of gîte. Child's chair and cot available on request. Rental by the night or week, preferential rates for pilgrims. We also have another gîte for 2 to 4 people opposite this one, so please don't hesitate to contact us.

Tout proche de la voie verte et de la via la rhona pour de belles ballades à pied, à vélo.... jusqu'à Gallician, Aiguës Mortes, le Grau du roi...
