Walk or hike in a village classified among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France". Known as the village of seven steeples, Belves has preserved in its walls many traces of the medieval period and its hospitality tradition. On the hiking trail outside the village, the hamlet of Capelou is home to one of the oldest pilgrimages in the Périgord, and the Béssède forest offers the hiker the shade of its chestnut trees.

A small detour is necessary to discover "the city with seven bell towers". At the top of a hill overlooking the green valley of the Nauze, its belvedere offers a vast panorama of the horizons of the Périgord Noir. Thanks to its strategic position, Belvès has had an eventful history. Several times besieged during the Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion, the village abounds with many miraculously preserved remains. You will cross the forest of Béssede and at the bend of a path, stop to contemplate the dolmen of Bonarme. In Urval, do not miss the bread oven, a rare vestige of feudal life. Continue on your way and before arriving in Paleyrac, cross the hamlet of the spirits, the black crosses drawn on the doors are traces of the last great plague. You have finally arrived at Cadouin, a village with golden houses clustered around a market hall in the central square.

A former pilgrimage route of 180 kilometers from the Périgord to Rocamadour, this magnificent route is now marked out, and allows you to cross the vineyards and hills of Bergerac in complete safety, before skirting the green Dordogne valley and its cliffs, to arrive in the valley of the Ouysse. A few kilometers after Belvès, you will cross the very pretty village of St Germain de Belvès then you will arrive at Cladech, end of this stage.

35 km south-west of Sarlat, Belvès is one of the most beautiful villages in France and the Black Perigord. At the top of a hill, the 11th century castrum is still very visible today with a town gate, the Auditeur tower (former keep) and the bell-tower-porch (15th century).
