Historically part of the Bas Berry, Boussac has always been a territory of confluence notably between the Auvergne, the Limousin and the Berry through its weekly markets. The Jean de Brosse Château is one of the major elements of local heritage. Particularly impressive on its rocky outcrop overlooking the Creuse Valley, Boussac Château has had an eventful history: built in the 12th century, ruined during the Hundred Years War, re-built, fortified then embellished, before being wrecked during the Revolution. George Sand stayed there several times and set part of her country novel 'Jeanne' there and also it's where she discovered the famous "Lady of the Unicorn" tapestries. It became a sub-prefecture, gendarmerie, annex to the fairground where the pigs were kept, it was saved from ruin in 1965 and restored with fine taste by the present owners who now live in it. Our chef's fine cuisine is seasonal.

The new Chef, Anita Moir, Kiwi* born, now splits her time between catering in London and France London and France is very comfortable, she assures us, with creating vegan dishes, but is equally is just as happy preparing a casserole with meat, or a cake with eggs. "As long as I know my ingredients are from good sources, I'm happy to create a meal with most of them." Anita describes her cooking as "'homely deli' style as if made at home".
