Château de Boussac

Particularly impressive on its rocky outcrop overlooking the Creuse Valley, Boussac Château has had an eventful history: built in the 12th century, ruined during the Hundred Years War, re-built, fortified then embellished, before being wrecked during the Revolution. George Sand stayed there several times and set part of her country novel 'Jeanne' there and also it's where she discovered the famous "Lady of the Unicorn" tapestries.

It became a sub-prefecture, gendarmerie, annex to the fairground where the pigs were kept, it was saved from ruin in 1965 and restored with fine taste by the present owners who now live in it.

The visit of the four floors of this Historical Monument – monumental emblazoned fireplaces, tapestries, an immense kitchen with unusual utensils, ancient panelling, furniture of the era… – is often completed by presentation of its unusual collections (canes, fonts…
