7 km trail through the heart of the city on the GR36. Walking along the river banks, at the foot of the cathedral and Berbie Palace, demonstrates perfectly the position of the city in relation to the river. The Riverbank Path: Departs from the Cathedral car park and leads to the mouth of the Caussels brook, passable in any season. At the foot of the Cathedral and the Berbie Palace, it allows you to understand the city’s location in relation to the river. Every summer, near the scow pontoon, an ephemeral garden gives a distinctive tone to the Echappée Verte. The Wild Path: Between the Pont-Neuf and the Avenue du Loirat, the wild path is only accessible on foot for more experienced walkers (steps, fording, rocky areas) and is only feasible during the summer season. The wearing of closed shoes is recommended. The Mouline Path: from the Avenue de Loirat to the Planques car park, the Mouline path runs along the crest of the Caussels slope, along a vast plain. This section is accessible to bikes and is an easy walk. It is particularly suitable for families.

This trail takes you through a landscape typical of the Tarn valley: fields, vineyards and woods. There are plenty of views of the surrounding villages and, on clear days, even of the Pyrenees. There are regions where the pigeon is king. This bird (Lo colomb, in Occitan) was prized for its meat, but also for its droppings, which were used as a powerful fertiliser in the Gaillacois vineyards and fields. Many ‘colombièrs’ (dovecotes) have also left their mark on the Tarn landscape. You will see several around the village. There is a shorter alternative route from point 3 that joins the itinerary between points 5 and 6. The return journey takes you past the 19th-century Château de Labastidié.

On the stony plateau, the old monks' path crosses a subtle landscape. Crops, groves, vines, paths and traditional buildings make up the harmonious and luminous assembly of a small-scale landscape. A monastic path: Clearing a formerly forested Tarn revealed not only rich land but also almost barren places called "èrm" (wasteland). Like Herm, near Mouysset. Who cleared the land? The monks, for the most part. The monastery of Hauterive (near Castres) was one of the first in Gaul to apply the rule of Saint Benoit. Although this rule recommended that monks should not "spread out into the open", they quickly deviated from it to gain land in the forest and cultivate it. The monks of the Abbey of Bonnecombe, in Rouergue, cultivated around their barn in Bernac (south of Castanet) and used, for six centuries, the famous "Chemin des Moines" to transport aniseed, cereals, coriander, pastel and saffron.

The commune of Mouzieys-Teulet, united by an order of August 8, 1833, was born of the merger of MOSIEIS, whose parish Jean-Baptiste de Mosieis depended on the viscounty of Ambialet and Notre Dame de Theoullet (a place where tiles were made). In Teulet, only the chapel (11th century) remains from the fortified village: Motte de Taillefer, around which it was built. The motte castrale corresponds to the need to build a place of power in a natural relief that is not very favourable to defensive sites such as plains and valley bottoms: it is used to control communication routes. The path starts from the Taillefer chapel and winds its way between plains, hills and valleys, through woods, fields and pastures. It follows part of the Lézert, a small river which it crosses at the Cantarane bridge built in 1877. It passes through the hamlets of La Picounié, Puech del Cau, la Négrarié and Taillefer.

During your walk, you will have to walk along and cross the three streams, as indicated by its name: the Infernats, the small stream and the Lézert. Even if these three streams are not rivers, it is recommended to be careful when crossing them in wet weather. The Lézert is a tributary of the Dadou which has its source in the commune of Teillet. In Bellegarde, the climate is slightly milder and therefore allows the cultivation of vines which are part of the "Cunac" appellation zone of the Gaillac vineyards. On the way, you will see a few crosses: at Servy, Lévior and Truel and you will cross the Cantarane bridge, built in 1877. This bridge is also used by the Lou Cami de Theoullet trail, which starts at Teulet, in the commune of Mouzieys-Teulet.

Straddling the communes of Técou and Cadalen, the trail takes you through fields of varied crops, vineyards and forests. You'll be able to admire and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this green countryside ‘speckled’ with medieval villages that can be seen in the distance thanks to their bell towers. The Sentier des Quatre Châteaux (Four Castles Trail) takes you through the village of Sénouillac and the surrounding area, passing close to a number of private châteaux. TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, A UNIQUE COLLECTION IN THE WORLD The world’s most important public collection of the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, including 31 posters by the lithograph painter, is to be found in Albi. A MEDIEVAL HOUSE This brick and timber framed house has retained the characteristics of an old medieval house in the historic centre: half-timbered and corbelled to gain more surface area plus an open-air attic called ‘the soleilhou’ (pronounced "the solayoo"...). The house is situated in the heart of intertwining narrow streets, with the backdrop of the omnipresent cathedral. The ground floor is reminiscent of old stalls and a staircase leads to the upper floors, where there is a permanent exhibition on the youth of the Albi painter, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The Albi painter Raphaël CORDOBA dedicated 25 years of his life to pay tribute to the greatest painters in history from the 14th to the 20th centuries. 65 paintings are exhibited in the round tower of the Hotel de Saunal, a former Renaissance merchant’s mansion located close to the Sainte-Cécile Cathedral and the cloister of the Saint Salvi Collegiate Church. A MUSEUM FOR ALL : A HUMANIST APPROACH “A Museum for All” : that was Raphaël Cordoba's aim, who wanted to share his passion and respect for the greatest artists with as many people as possible. Integrated into the Episcopal City listed as a World Heritage Site (UNESCO), these two buildings harmoniously combine different architectural styles. The cloister garden is a real haven of peace in the heart of the old town. Free. This Cloister, built in 1270, is a small haven of peace offering an invitation to tranquillity and observation... the doors we can see under the arcades led directly to the canons’ cells, which are now apartments. The remaining cloister wing and the Romanesque arches are linked to the Gothic capitals which are carved withcharacters, animals or vegetation. In the centre of the cloister, a simple garden is arranged where aromatic and medicinal herbs are cultivated. It is one of the five vegetable gardens created by the City of Albi where vegetables, condiments and herbs are made available to passers-by: a pooled plant and edible heritage.

The collegiate Church of Saint Salvi, named after the 1st bishop of the city of Albi in the 6th century, has stood proudly at the corner of Sainte-Cécile square since the 11th century. This monument is one of the largest Romanesque churches in Albi. A visit to this monument completes a historic tour of Vieil Alby. Feel your curiosity increasing as you climb the stairs, the cloister is there, nestled in the heart of the old city. THE COLLEGIATE During the 11th century, the foundations of a white stone church were added to the presumed burial site of Saint Salvi. Note how the mixture of stone and brick coincides with the change of materials in the 13th century. Looking at the building, it is possible to see the various architectural phases and the switch from Roman to Gothic. Inside the church, 6 large paintings, donated by the Consuls of Albi in 1725, relate the life of Saint Salvi and the history of the city. At the far end of the church, under the Moucherel Organ, a set of human-sized sculptures “Christ with links” are full of surprising details and colours.

This self-catering cottage on an organic wine farm in Andillac (Tarn) is "a haven of calm". Domaine de Peyres-Combe, located at the start of the Cordais plateau, is on the GR36/GR46 long-distance hiking trail (Chemin de Compostelle). It can be the starting point for walks and hikes or mountain bike rides (marked trails). It's an ideal holiday home for recharging your batteries and spending a holiday full of discoveries with family and friends. The house was renovated in 2013 and is therefore completely new, to accommodate up to eight people. It comprises two bedrooms with double beds, one bedroom with bunk beds and a cot, a large fully-equipped kitchen with dining area, a spacious living room with a sofa that converts into a bed, two bathrooms and two toilets. The house also offers two outdoor areas: a courtyard at the rear of the house and a garden around 50 m away. The small medieval village of Salles sur Cérou is ideally located, close to the city of Cordes sur ciel and 25km from the UNESCO World Heritage city of Albi and the Gaillacois vineyards. You can also explore the region on foot or by mountain bike, thanks to the many footpaths.
