By following this circuit, you will discover that the commune of Saint Germain-les-Vergnes, in spite of its rural aspect, was a high place of the seigniory. Indeed, you will find two castles in the commune: that of Chauvel and that of Chadebec as well as its landscaped park (rare species, English river, factories, vegetable garden, forest, etc.), registered as Historic Monuments; but also the villa Giroir dating from 1895.

Welcome to Saint-Mexant's largest hiking trail, following the contours of the commune and even taking in a few paths in the neighboring communes of Favars and St Clément. An ideal route for walking or mountain biking!

In the centre of the village, the start is between the 12th century church and the Liberty elm... In a preserved nature, you will cross wooded areas interspersed with green meadows. Numerous brooks criss-cross the landscape creating on their way, here and there, a pond... a pond. Superb view of the Maumont valley at the entrance to the village of Le Rebourg.

The path of the revolt will lead you to the pond of Lachamp, scene of the first confrontations in 1790 between peasants and the maréchaussée. On your way, you will discover the heritage retracing the history, the church (1886) with a view on the valley of the Couze, the castle dating from the 17th century, its watchtower from the 12th century, the chapel of the old cemetery and the miraculous fountain of St-Eutrope with the legend dating from the 14th century.

This route allows you to admire the views over Donzenac and its plain from the village of Mazières. It then sinks into the shaded valley of the two Maumonts, which it crosses at the mill of Theil, to emerge on the top of the slopes by the charming village of Cévennes. It then dips back into the Maumonts valley one last time before reaching the famous Travassac slate quarry site Finally, a short detour to the medieval village of Donzenac allows you to take a refreshing break in the town square before finishing this hike.

Here's a family-friendly nature trail! Meet at the starting point near the hamlet of les Brochs hamlet, a few kilometers from the village of Saint-Mexant? Along the way, you'll discover the small Brochs pond, lush green meadows rolling meadows where a few Limousines where a few Limousines graze in fine weather with magnificent views of the Monédières monédières massif and the Monts du Cantal on a clear day!

Discover the Ardoise region through this 61 km long sportive route! Your tour starts in Donzenac, a pretty town of character. Once an important fortified town, Donzenac has lost none of its charm thanks to its medieval architecture. At the highest point of the oldest part of the town is the astonishing castle of the barons of Donzenac, which is surely the oldest remaining residence in the town. After a few kilometres in the legs, you arrive at the gates of Allassac! Amongst its rich heritage, the 14th century fortified church and the Tour César are worth discovering. To complete the loop, allow yourself a well-deserved break to discover the Pans de Travassac. The interest of the site is explained by its impressive coloured cliffs, which do not fail to surprise, just like its decor which harmonises mineral and plant environments.

This generous land bears witness to the marvellous skills of medieval builders in such exceptional sites as Aubazine and Saint-Robert. At the Moulin du Rebourg, a canal diverts part of the stream to power the mill?s paddlewheels, returning to the Maumont in the form of a beautiful waterfall. The mill once belonged to the Glandier monastery, which made it available to a modest family in return for work. The state of the farm and the mill?s activity were checked every quarter, providing the monks with an opportunity to stock up on vegetables, flour and poultry.
