Camping Les Étoiles: Adventure in Saint-sornin-lavolps

This 68 km sportive route starts in Pompadour, famous for its national stud farm and its imposing castle, then the former property of the favourite marquise of Louis XV. After a few kilometres, the route takes you to Uzerche, a town of character described as the "pearl of the Limousin" by the writer Arthur Young. The fortified town has its origins in the Gallic period and is home to many architectural treasures, such as the unmissable Saint-Pierre abbey church with its unique octagonal bell tower. The journey continues in style with a visit to Ségur-le-Château, which has been awarded the title of "Most Beautiful Village in France". It is up to you to fall under the spell of this picturesque medieval town, whose castle remains still seem to protect the village from the top of its hill. All along your journey, you will be amazed by the diversity and richness of the landscape.

The route starts at the foot of the 11th-century priory of Arnac. After the village of La Férédie, it offers beautiful views before arriving at the Domaine de Chignac, where mares and foals gambol. After skirting the Pierre Villepreux stadium, we return to the rolling Rhé landscape with the Puy Marmont hill, which also offers fine views. Then on to the Pompadour state forest, with its many remarkable trees. At the end of the forest, we stop at the Pierre des Quatre Communes, where the communes of Arnac-Pompadour, Saint-Sornin Lavolps, Concèze and Beyssenac meet. After crossing the RD7 and skirting orchards, you return to an undulating landscape with lovely views before descending to Les Levades, where the beautiful Limousin cows graze. The climb up to Arnac priory brings this beautiful walk to a close.

After setting off from Place de la République, near the town hall, and passing by the viewpoint indicator facing the Monédières mountains, you can admire the Couade, the town's emblem, enthroned on the well near the church. Wooded, shady paths lead you to the Rechèze pond and the Chartreuse du Glandier, which you overlook as you climb towards the village of Grange Vieille.

To be seen on the route is the "tine", a pot dug by the stream when it was still a torrent. Located at about 200 m from the circuit, it is worth a look; a footbridge has been built to facilitate observation. Back to Lascaux, make a detour to see the miraculous fountain,

Go ahead the old slate quarries (Natura 2000 site). A view on the circuit, the highest of seven viaducts remarquable structure built in 1872. It has 8 arches which are 25 m, for a length of 285 m and a height of 58 m.

The Circuit des Vitraux takes its name from the stained glass windows located at its starting point in the church of Saint Martial. After admiring the light sublimated by Kim En Joong, an internationally renowned artist, one can enter the darkness of the woods along the Loyre river which were a major site of the Resistance and whose memory is marked by the stele erected in memory.

Beautiful views throughout the circuit. The passage on the way called "Marquise" is remarquable because the path follows perfectly the crest of hills; the daughter of the Marquis of Pompadour would have participated to the track creation. The return is by the Rift of Malaval.

Chapelle St Roch, in the commune, is an ancient oratory annexed to the priory of Tulle in 1318. It was moved to its present location in the village of Boissiaux around 1820. It is thought to date from a particularly severe cattle plague. Few saints were as famous in the West as St. Roch between the 14th and 17th centuries. A contemporary of the Black Death, from which he was miraculously cured, he was often the last resort for a humanity decimated by the epidemic that killed almost half the population of Europe. In St Sornin-Lavolps, he is celebrated every August 16 with a blessing of the flocks. Accused of poisoning her husband, a blacksmith at Le Glandier, with arsenic, Marie Capelle Lafarge was convicted of the crime. However, doubts remain as to her guilt. A stele in memory of Innocent VI, born Etienne Aubert, stands on the private estate of Les Monts. Born in Beyssac at Les Monts, he was Pope in Avignon in the 14th century.

François DUMAIN's farm, located in the commune of Arnac Pompadour, is a takeover of the family farm, used mainly for grazing horses. On the twenty hectares of the farm, François has started a small market gardening activity since 2019. He is committed to producing an ancient variety of potato (the Chavilloux) responsibly, working as much as possible by animal traction with his horses, which he already owns. The plants are bought in Corrèze and grown on the farm. The seeds of this old local variety have been used for decades, and continue to provide the highest quality potatoes.

Pompadour is a small town famous for its castle, a gift from Louis XV to his favourite Jeanne Le Normant d'Etiolles, and also for its National Stud and its Mare Mare House, unique in France. Pompadour is the cradle of the Anglo-Arabian breed and since 1976 has had a Horse Institute and hosts renowned horse shows. Erected in the early 16th century as a collegiate church by Geoffroy de Pompadour, bishop of Le Puy, the chapel of St Blaise is the parish church of the Pompadour region. It was in a state of serious disrepair when a vast restoration project was undertaken. The interior decoration of the chapel was entrusted to the artist André Brasilier, who worked for almost 5 years to create a monumental mural of over 300 m², depicting various historical themes from the Bible. Thanks to its plastic and aesthetic qualities, this work contributes to the embellishment and enrichment of our heritage. With its religious dimension, it bears witness to the enduring image of the traditions of the Christian world.
