A 40km loop to discover the Xaintrie, an unspoilt plateau with typical architecture and three flowing rivers. Everywhere, stone, granite and lauze roofs illuminated by "fenestroux" give the little houses as well as the beautiful residences a noble and harmonious face. Since the 11th century, the Carbonnières towers have stood on a rocky spur, silhouetted against the surrounding wild greenery and forest. Nearby are the Towers of Merle, a 12th-century citadel overlooking the Maronne River. This jewel of medieval Limousin invites you to discover its fortress in a 10-hectare park. In the heart of the Xaintrie Blanche, this long circuit, which can be reduced by half, alternates small roads and easy paths, very easy to ride on a mountain bike. It offers many views of the Gourdaloup stream, the Maronne gorges, the village of Saint-Cirgues-la-Loutre (its church and its legend), the Carbonnières towers, the Merle towers, the Rieu castle, and it crosses the old village of Saint-Geniez-ô-Merle. While crossing the villages, you will notice the houses of Xaintrie, wells, a spring, a bread oven. Variant of 6 km.

By some alchemy of colours, the Maronne gorges separate the white Xaintrie from the black Xaintrie to the south. Half of the route takes place in the forest (the name Hautefage refers to the high beech forests) and at the end of the route there is a beautiful view of the Broquerie dam, also known as the Hautefage dam. The wooden balconies that can be seen in the village are former chestnut drying sheds.

Good foot, good eye to discover this path in two loops, often lined with low stone walls, going from village to village rich in traditional heritage with the wells of Champeil, the granite peasant houses and roofs of lauze, the trefoil cross, the gables of barns with redans, the well with balance of Massoubrot ... with also a magnificent view on the Cantal Mountains.

Situated in the south-eastern part of Corrèze, on the border with Cantal, this circuit winds its way across a hilly plateau between the Dordogne Valley, classified as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, the Maronne Valley with its famous Tours de Merle and the Monts d'Auvergne. This is an atypical region with Cantalien influences and incomparable architecture where the first Salers cows were bred.

Winding permanently through shaded undergrowth on either side of the Glane gorges, this physical circuit makes a loop that includes the junction between the village of Servières, with its ancient castle keep, and the magnificent village of Glény on the edge of the Dordogne, with its pretty stone houses with slate or slate roofs. It also goes along the majestic climbing site of N.D du Roc.

In the old village of ST Geniez ô Merle are the ruins of the 14th and 15th century church, listed as a Monument Historique since 1969. Situated on the side of a promontory, it was preceded on the west by a multi-bay bell tower, and ended on the east by a straight wall bearing the Merle coat of arms. The patron saint was St Geniez, the comedian honored on August 25. Its destruction was triggered by a lightning storm that destroyed the roof. Ruin quickly followed, aided by stone robbers. Before 1897, it was the church of the former parish of Saint Geniez ô Merle. The present-day church of St Geniez ô Merle was built in 1899, replacing that of the present-day "Vieux Bourg", whose hamlet is now a protected site.

Known as the "pierced cross", the Roman cross at Rouzeyrol is a roadside cross dating back to the Middle Ages and has been listed as a historic monument since 1927. It is located not far from the Tours de Merle in the hamlet of Rouzeyrol, at the crossroads of a footpath leading to the Tours de Merle in the commune of St Geniez ô Merle. Discoidal or four-lobed in shape, it features a Christ-like sculpture at its center.

Just 500m from the Tours de Merle historic and tourist site, on the D13 linking the communes of St-Geniez-ô-Merle and St-Bonnet-les-Tours, look out over Europe's 2nd largest timber-framed bridge, the only one of its kind to have replaced the single-span suspension bridge built at the end of the 19th century. The bridge's features include a 30 m high crossing over the Maronne river (a tributary of the Dordogne), 250 tons of Douglas fir timber, a 56 m span, 6 25 m high crutches in the form of a St-André cross, and a 10 m wide carriageway. The Merle bridge has been open to traffic since 1999, and is a prime example of Corrèze's timber industry.

The remains of a feudal fortress (11th and 14th centuries), the Carbonnières site comprises two square towers (the south tower for defensive purposes and the north tower for residential purposes) and a village abandoned in 1951. It's easy to let your imagination run away with you and discover the secret of the beautiful Catarina... The visit is free and self-guided, thanks to a 4-minute walk (3.5km) marked out on site. It's accessible for the whole family, but with a slight difference in altitude.
